Although the patchwork nature of this canvas bag means it is instantly informal and probably not suitable for work, there is still something pretty about this purse. The colors are largely muted, with just a lovely flash of fuchsia to brighten things up. This what makes a boho bag into one that is strangely calm.

The soft and flexible canvas makes this hobo a practical choice. Even when a little battered and rugged, it should ideally look like that is part of the design. This, of course, is the advantage of bohemian style! Still, the eastern inspired pattern may be a little much for some people, especially those who like things to be a little more restrained.

This is a reasonably priced canvas tote that will be both pretty and functional.

A luxury purse with multiple compartments is high on most organized girls’ handbag wish-lists. The D&G Lily purse is just that, and by gum is it luxurious.

Anything  by Dolce & Gabbana is bound to be pricey, and this three-zip purse doesn’t disappoint. At $1,250 it is easily the most expensive wallet style handbag that I have ever seen!

Of course, it isn’t all about the price. A lot of the style of this exotic little purse is in the remarkable practicality. It is compact, but at the same time you have loads of room for such a small purse, with the three zipped compartments and the further pockets inside. Change, receipts, cards, phone; you name it, it can fit inside.

Beyond the very lovely design, you have luxury materials. Many people aren’t huge fans of haircalf, but there is no denying that it is luxurious, especially in combination with the soft leather. Gorgeous.

Sonia Rykiel shows that even the simplest tote bag can command attention with this Over The Shoulder Bag.

It might be a head-turner, but I wish Sonia Rykiel had used a little more originality here. It’ll attract attention not because it’s particularly stylish or interesting, but because it’s such a glitzy shade of gold. I suppose it could pop against the right neutral outfit, but I’m not sure how I could easily incorporate this into my everyday wardrobe.

It’s a shame that Sonia Rykiel has gone for such a cheap, attention getting ploy because there are some nice design elements here. The pair of overlaid front pockets is really interesting, and I like the nautical feel of the thick, ropy straps. In a more subtle maritime shade, like ivory or sea blue, I could even part with the $525 Sonia Rykiel is asking.

As it stands though, I just can’t see the value. While its price isn’t exorbitant by designer standards, we’ve all seen totes that are much more intricate and versatile at this price point.

Are we all getting excited about Lanvin’s diffusion line for H&M? There’s less than one month to go until the more affordable designs from Alber Elbaz hits the stores, and this advertisement gives us a bit of a sneak peek.

Those vibrantly colored floral dresses will likely get the most attention, but my eyes are drawn to the accessories. After all, it’s these little details that make the outfits. I love the splashes of leopard print we see on the clutch and the sexy high heeled shoes, not to mention those familiar bows and floral accents. The line sees to have all the hallmarks of the Lanvin we love without that often prohibitive bottom line.

You can bet that these purses, shoes, and apparel outfits will fly off the shelves once they arrive on November 20. Are you planning on joining the queue at your local H&M store for a piece of the action?

Just as we all need a little black dress in our closet, every girl needs a reliable black bag. It shouldn’t be too big or too small, too ostentatious or too mundane. In fact, it should be something rather like this Maggie Satchel from Zac Posen.

The devil’s in the details here. It’s the smooth finish of the Bombay-treated calfskin, and the modern curved topstitching. It’s the sparing use of studs which avoids looking faddish. It’s those little things that bring just enough contemporary style to the design; it won’t date quickly, but it will look modern.

But a style like this needs to offer more than surface appeal, and the Maggie does that too. The two external pockets are complemented by a pair of open pouches and a zippered pocket inside. The generously sized interior really feels luxurious with its signature Z leather lining. And then there are those long handles, which should make carrying the Maggie a breeze.

At $1495 this satchel is no impulse buy, but its timeless style and everyday appeal make it well worth the money.

Affordable designer fashion lines are all the rage, with department stores like H&M, Topshop, and Target all getting in on the act. Now Macy’s has joined the charge with the announcement of its rotating capsule collections.

From February 2011, a new diffusion line will hit the retailer’s Impulse department. The series will kick off with a range from London-based fashion designer Kinder Aggugini, who’s worked with the lines of Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Calvin Klein, and Paul Smith.

“It is an incredible privilege to have the opportunity to bring established and renowned fashion designers from across the globe to Macy’s fashion-seeking customer,” said Jeff Gennette, Macy’s Chief Merchandising Officer.

“The launch of this designer program affirms that Macy’s is a unique destination for fashion, bringing sophisticated design and aspirational fashion to a customer that desires and demands constant newness in her wardrobe. We are confident that Kinder’s unique styling and intriguing background will appeal to Macy’s ‘Impulse’ customer and satisfy her desire for high-end fashion at an affordable price.“

The Kinder Aggugini collection will certainly feature apparel, but we’ll have to wait and see whether it’ll also include handbags and accessories as so many diffusion lines do. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

Look out for the Kinder Aggugini range at Macy’s stores everywhere next February.

Yves Saint Laurent gives its signature looks a casual makeover with this Easy Bag.

This carryall gets its name from the gentle slouch of its buttery calfskin body. The soft surface has a relaxed feel which in some ways seems at odds with its glitzy bronze color. I suppose the idea is to make the Easy versatile enough to make the day to night transition, but I’m not sure it’s entirely successful. In any case, we’ve got that signature stitched Y detail to pull the design together.

Despite Yves Saint Laurent calling it a medium bag, I imagine it’s really as large as most of us would want. There’s storage space to spare, but it won’t dwarf girls with petite frames. It’s just a shame Yves Saint Laurent gave such a sizable bag fairly short handles. It won’t comfortably fit over your shoulder, so if you’re going to load this up I hope you don’t have a lengthy commute ahead!

At $1350 the Easy bag isn’t badly priced for a purse from the Yves Saint Laurent stable, but it doesn’t do enough to convince me to lay my money down.

You’ve got to hand it to Versace; it just doesn’t do anything halfway. The fabulous Italian line’s aesthetic is colorful, flashy, and hard to ignore. I haven’t always been a fan in the past, but the house seems to be on a major upswing. This studded leather shoulder bag is evidence that’s true.

We’ve seen every incarnation of the studded black leather bag this season, from dainty styles to designs that look fresh off the back of a motorbike. This studded bag by Versace is super-tough, but also super glam. It manages to use absolutely giant studs without looking too garish or low class.

This trick is pulled off, I think, by using huge, brush-polished studs. Their close placement gives the bag an almost mirrored appearance, but on second glance, this bag is all heavy metal. Versace has kept the shape of the bag a relatively simple rectangle, which also keeps the style in line.

The metal plate embellished belts along the edges of the bag divert attention away from the plethora of central studs, but they also frame them and help create a cohesive pattern. The pale gold of the hardware isn’t as much of an intense contrast as silver would be, but it’s still as glam as almost any girl could want.

Break out your super high stilettos, ladies, this bag definitely deserves a night on the town!

Mulberry’s Bayswater bag has quickly become a staple in the fashion world. This gilded, but refined style is going to be quick to find fans amongst celebrities and urban fashionistas alike.

Why have one flap on your handbag when you can have six?

I don’t know what purpose those little flaps actually serve. They don’t conceal pockets or anything like that! However, they are covered in the coolest of cone studs, and that is what manages to take them from being a strange addition into being a funky biker chic feature.

The rest of the bag is much more predictable than that attitude packed exterior. The leather, in that great sky blue, is soft and gently crinkled. Add to this a simply gorgeous polka dot interior, and you end up with a clutch that is very luxurious, and the practical lining colors of navy and black are stain friendly too.

Thanks to the optional handle and good sized interior pocket, this is a functional purse that also manages to be dangerous and darn cool!
