Silly jokes aside, this cheap and cheerful mini bowler will no doubt be much appreciated by all the children out there. You know that phase many girls go through where they want to copy their moms? Well this is the sort of fun purse that will function in that role, although I can’t really imagine many self-respecting adults owning it!

OK, so there isn’t much more to say about this 1978 bowler bag; it is kitsch, cute, and at $19.99 it isn’t pricey either.

The words “fall” and “getaway” go together like peas and carrots. But what’s a stylish city girl to pack all her lovely weekend items in? Handbags are pretty big these days, but not quite big enough for hiking boots and a flat iron. Mulberry brings its classic style to bear on this perfectly minimal Clipper weekend bag.

The oak leather on the Clipper has a lightly pebbled grain and a rich, woody color. It’s neutral, but it’s definitely not boring. The surface of the Clipper is delightfully free of adornment. This is something that I really love about Mulberry. It makes sure that all the functional elements on its accessories are beautiful, so it doesn’t have to over-adorn them with a bunch of crap.

The Clipper is a slightly squared-off interpretation of the classic duffel shape. This more angular approach gives the bag a tailored appearance, without making it look formal or stuffy. Mulberry has made, in this simple bag, the perfect timeless weekender. The Clipper doesn’t come cheap at $1,450, but most things worth having don’t come cheap, do they?

Lux de Ville offers its take on the nautical trend with this High Seas bag.

The biggest problem for me is that it doesn’t feel that the brand’s tried very hard. The only things that give this bag a maritime feel are its sea blue finish and anchor charms. They’re token gestures which come off as a paltry attempt to fit in with current fashion.

At least this purse stays true to Lux de Ville’s retro vision. From its classic quilted body to its kisslock clasp, this is easily recognizable as one of Lux de Ville’s creations. It’s also the label’s largest kiss-lock bag, so if it’s space you’re after you won’t be disappointed. If you’ve loved the label’s bags before you’re likely to warm to this one, but there’s probably nothing here to gain new fans.

My biggest problem is that the purse appears cheap, much cheaper than even its affordable $72 price tag suggests. The pearlized finish on the vinyl body is too shiny, especially on the back of the bag which is strangely glossier than the front. The bulleted feet hint at high-end luxury, but sadly this material isn’t really worth protecting.

If you already love Lux de Ville, you’ll probably forgive the label its mistakes here. But if you’re after a nautical accessory, you can do so much better than this.

If you’ve always looked longingly at Matthew Williamson’s colorful accessories and their beaded accents, you might be in luck. The designer has announced he’ll launch a more affordable diffusion collection next fall.

The line will be called Muse, and serve as an affordable younger sibling to the British designer’s main high-end range.

“I’m sick of everybody saying, “I love it, but I can’t afford it,” he told nymag.com. He looks to remedy that with Muse goodies that “will be at least half the price of our main line.“

Details are incredibly thin on the ground at this point, with no one really sure what the Muse line will feature, or what it will look like. Hopefully we’ll see all of the apparel items we love alongside the handbags, scarves, bathing suits he does so well. I’d also expect a whole lot of color, although I guess we’ll have to be patient until next fall to see exactly how it goes down.

The little black bag gets a stylish makeover here with the Black City Sequins Bag from Balmain.

The Parisian fashion house has taken a rather simple classic square clutch and added some serious wow factor by covering it in sequins. Black leather trim and a shiny silver name plate complement the glittering panels. It’s a little bit art deco, and a whole lot of style.

It’s those sophisticated after-five looks that will suck you in and make you forget about practicality. The Black City’s slender silhouette cuts an elegant figure, but it doesn’t afford you a lot of space. Anything remotely bulky will interrupt the purse’s clean lines, so we really are restricted to carrying the barest of minimums.

But it is awfully attractive, and in basic black as versatile as an evening bag could be. Whether that’s enough for you to spend the whopping $2935 Balmain asks is up to you!

7 Chi has given us a purse that’s right on trend, and on budget, with this Mally mini shoulder bag.

Rather than a traditional flap design, 7 Chi gives us pretty stitching and ruched details. It’s a lot to take in, but in this gentle gray-black shade it never seems too much. A geometric patchwork design peeks out from under that flap. Patchwork is back this season, but not in the homespun crafty way we’re used to seeing it. This more subtle interpretation, with complementary swatches of leather, is just what we’re talking about.

While praising the bag, it’s impossible to overlook those interchangeable straps which give the Mally more versatility than you’d expect. Switch out the straps to take the purse from a clutch to a shoulder bag and then a cross-body purse. Unlike so many convertible purses, the interchangeable handles make sure we have a clean look no matter what mode the bag is in. That’s great, because with so much going on aesthetically the last thing we need is another distraction.

It is classed as a mini bag though, and while I don’t think it’s quite as small as its name suggests pack rats will find it lacking. For me the most disappointing part is that we can’t really make use of all of the space on offer. If you overstuff the Mally, the flap doesn’t quite reach its magnet. This magnet is also quite weak, so it’s difficult to keep the bag closed up when it’s over your shoulder. The main compartment does have a zippered closure so it shouldn’t pose a security risk, but it just doesn’t look quite as good open.

It has its flaws, but 7 Chi has done well here to offer us a stylish and authentic leather bag for just $99.

I don’t know what’s going on with all this shearling I’ve been seeing, lately. I thought that it was a faded trend, but it seems to be holding on for dear life. Frankly, I’m tired of looking at it, and I’m disappointed with Jimmy Choo for giving in to it.

Even if it’s only the trim that’s actually shearling, the camel colored suede looks so close to shearling that it’s really hard to tell the difference. Don’t get me wrong, the material, is soft and strong, but the furry exposed seams look messy and patchwork-y.

The bizarre, slouchy shape doesn’t help much. It’s a hobo, for sure, but one that looks as though it has been pieced together, and not so neatly. The straps on the side of the bag don’t help it much; they just add to the messiness of the look.

I can’t believe this sloppy bag is $2,595. I paid only slightly more for a brand new scooter, which I heartily recommend over this bag. It’s sleeker, cleaner, and it holds more stuff.

Alexander McQueen may have passed away, but his spirit lives on in his line’s tough, but chic designs. This is definitely my favorite bag from the Faithful line, and one of my favorite bags of the whole season.

The material of the this bag is what makes it stand out for me. Precisely because, while it’s absolutely covered in studs, they don’t stand out at all. From afar they sparkle delicately, but up close, you can get a much more hard rock vibe.

I am crazy about this interpretation of the hobo shape. It’s a lot flatter than most hobos, which makes it look a lot cleaner and a lot less slouchy. This is definitely not your average boho hobo. Its minimal edginess makes it versatile within a certain range. It certainly won’t work for super conservative styles, but it’s simple enough to work for more than just hardcore glam.

The only thing I don’t like about this bag is the $1,525 price tag. Not because I don’t think it’s worth it, just because I, personally, can’t afford it.
