There are ups and downs to the Marc by Marc Jacobs line. Since it’s a lower priced diffusion line, the label can afford to be more experimental with it than the house collection. That can yield extraordinarily wonderful or terrible results. But with this Sophie satchel, the line has stayed on the conservative side and given us a bag that is minimal and beautiful.
The finely pebbled olive green leather on the Sophie has a distinctly military look. The brushed gold hardware only adds to this impression, but while the overall look is minimal and utilitarian, it’s not excessively so.
The rounded shape of the Sophie satchel softens it up, without taking away from its elegance. The bag has a great strap and buckle detail on front that will keep your belongings secure. The front flap opens onto a concealed front pouch pocket and larger main compartment.
For $460, the Sophie satchel delivers high style at a reasonable price. This is definitely the kind of bag that will last you through years of fashion trends without ever looking dated.

Jimmy Choo had almost completely converted me into a diehard fan until this recent spate of bags. It seems like the line’s recently more restrained aesthetic was just a phase, and now we’re back to seeing flashy, ovedone pieces like this new version of the Chandra clutch.
Chloe’s line of Marcie bags were instantly a hit with celebrities and fashionistas when they came out. This medium sized python version isn’t just my favorite of the bunch; it’s also my favorite exotic bag of the season.
