With bags like the Karma and Melrose, Imoshion has delivered purses with very distinct looks. The Lotto is a bit tamer, despite its racy red finish. While the faux leather body is bright, the satchel’s details are fairly pedestrian. That might disappoint Imoshion fans, but it’s less likely to polarize audiences.

The color is really the selling point here. It’s much more brash than the deep crimsons most fashion designers favor, the kind of color that will really pop against winter neutrals. On a busier bag the color could have seemed over-the-top, but here it gives the satchel some much needed personality.

What this Imoshion bag lacks in flair it makes up for in functionality. A zippered envelope runs down the center of the bag, effectively dividing the interior into three parts. The side sections close with snaps, so everything you’re carrying is kept secure. There are also three smaller pockets for taking care of your essential gadgets and loose change.

That level of organization isn’t offered by many high end bags, so it’s impressive to see it here on a bag costing less than $30.

Jimmy Choo’s past few seasons have been fantastic. It’s really given its posh aesthetic a street savvy makeover, and I, personally, love it. Unfortunately, this Saba textured leather tote is not the most interesting bag the line has come up with lately.

Part of the problem lies in the material. I love the sandy color and the fabulously weathered texture of the leather, but the leaf appliques and crystal embellishment really take away from the style. They have a retro 80s look that might work if it weren’t for the strap bracelets. I know that they’re sort of a Choo signature, but there’s just a little too much going on here.

The simple tote shape is refreshingly minimal. I love the slouchiness and the unfinished edges. The problem is that they just don’t combine that well with the blingy nature of the adornments.

Frankly, I just can’t figure out what the goal was for the design of this bag, and for $1,995, I expect a solid style statement.

Marni is making my favorite accessories this season. It’s taking a minimalist approach to the trends and the effect is spot on. This convertible bag is a great downtown everyday option.

The black leather material is supple and has a smooth grain and a nice sheen. The silver hardware gives the bag a tough appeal, but is minimal enough to keep the look in line. This combination of edgy and elegant is becoming Marni’s trademark.

The shape of this bag is really what’s winning me over. It’s just a simple rectangular pouch, but you can wear it three different ways: across the body, over the shoulder, or as a backpack. Seriously, what could be better for a girl on the go? The front zipper pocket is a great place to stow often need items like keys and whatnot.

$1,035 is more than I usually like to pay for a bag, but this time, I think it might just be worth it.

Hype ups the attitude with this edgy leather Sabrina satchel.

It might be just me, but I can’t help thinking of a straitjacket when I look at this purse. Something about all those criss-crossing belts screams metal asylum garb. But perhaps that unhinged personality is just what Hype was aiming for.

I could have swallowed a few stud embellishments, but by using a combination of round and point pyramids I think Hype has gone too far. However this isn’t a bag about subtlety, so Hype must just get away with this level of excess.

The looks give the Sabrina the X factor, but its functional features are equally impressive. While you’re drooling over the buckles you might miss the magnetic snap pocket, two slide pockets and two zippered compartments hidden on the exterior. There’s more where that came from, with three open pockets and a large zippered pocket inside.

My only disappointment is the handles, which are just a shade too short for all but the slimmest girls to carry comfortably over their shoulder. A few extra inches would have made all the difference.

But at an affordable $325, I think most daring fashionistas will be willing to overlook this little niggle.

Sorry Hermes. I know the handbag world fawns at your feet, but I’m just not feeling your silk travel case.

A label held in such high esteem should be able to produce something more inspiring than this. Words like “pleasant” and “nice” come to mind when I look at this simple blue silk case. It’s inoffensive, but nothing to get too excited over.

While the exterior is lackluster, Hermes has shown some innovation inside. It’s decided to make its entire zip-up interior removable. It might be a bit fiddly, but I don’t mind this feature. It allows us to wash the lining if our shampoos spill, but it also likely drives the price up. I have to assume that’s what makes this purse so expensive, because everything else is pretty stock standard.

If this silk purse was more stylish I’d happily carry it in the evening as a clutch. Anything to feel I was getting my $740 worth. That’s small change compared to most Hermes bags, but only those desperate to own a piece of the brand would spend so much on a purse which offers so little.
