Helena de Natalio’s famous Argentinian leather is the perfect material for creating a classic, slouchy hobo. With so many designers attempting to reinvent the wheel, it’s refreshing to see the traditional approach taken with this Carrie bag.

Some might accuse Helena de Natalio of creating a hobo by numbers, but remember that there’s a reason why these elements are hobo staples. From its crescent shape to its slouchy finish the Carrie doesn’t push a lot of boundaries, but it does exemplify boho chic.

Those free-spirited looks drew me in, but the features do enough to hold my interest. The roomy interior is kitted out with plenty of pockets and a fob for keys. The long strap is completely adjustable to take the Carrie from shoulder bag to cross-body purse.

I love the Carrie in electric blue, as it strikes a great balance between conservative and fashion forward. However if it’s not to your taste, don’t worry. With six other shades available, I’m sure one will speak to you!

Many of our favorite designers have created laptop bags and iPod pouches, but covers for our e-readers are less common. Kate Spade has happily bucked the trend with her retro collection of Kindle cases.

You might recognize the designs from the Book of the Month clutches we reviewed a few months earlier. Those purses were really for the most avid of bookworms, but these Kindle covers have a much more universal appeal. Only the quirkiest of fashionistas could look right carrying a book-like purse when stepping out. But wrapping your e-reader in a homage to your favorite novel makes a lot of sense.

For me the biggest stumbling block is the price. Plain leather Kindle covers cost around $40, but this canvas alternative costs much more at $85. It might have a designer name attached and a fun print, but the material is nowhere near as luxurious as the more affordable option. This Kindle cover might be strictly for Kate Spade fans, don’t you think?

Hayden-Harnett goes back to basics with this eco-friendly Green is Good tote.

This simple bag is a world away from the fashion-forward leather accessories we’re used to seeing from the brand. In fact, it’d be boring if not for that clever green slogan, which puts a modern twist on Wall Street’s 80s ethos.

Save for a pair of open pockets inside, what you see is what you get here. This is a traditional tote, with no real bells or whistles. It earns its green stripes with its organic cotton body, but there’s really little to differentiate it from the swag of other eco-bags flooding the market.

But it’s difficult to be too tough on a bag which gives back. Hayden-Harnett generously donates 100% of the proceeds from this tote to Farm Aid, a charity which promotes local, organic, and sustainable farming practices.

It might not be as chic as many Hayden-Harnett bags, but this tote is much more appropriate for a trip to the farmers markets. And for a mere $27, I’m satisfied with that!

Harveys pares down its popular seatbelt style with this Minnie Coin Purse.

Rather than the woven finish we’re used to seeing, Harveys uses just two strips of seatbelt to create this purse. I like the simplicity of this tealy emerald green, but if you’re daring the argyle printed Prepster purse will suit you down to the ground.

Considering that it’s called a coin purse, I didn’t expect a lot of storage space. But it really is larger than most bags of this ilk, more like a clutch than simply an accessory for loose change. The interior is simple, but that’s not a bad thing as it really doesn’t take much to keep a space of this size organized.

The versatile carrying options are impressive. One side of the chain detaches so you can make it a shoulder bag or wristlet when you’re traveling light. For those busy days though, you can use the D-ring to attach it inside one of Harveys’ larger seatbelt bags.

I think this is the kind of purse that would get a real workout in most wardrobes, which makes its affordable $38 price tag seem like a real bargain.

Massachusetts based label Zaum is going green with its new eco-friendly purse collections.

Felt, and organic varieties of cotton, canvas, and twill are all used to create the striking bags which range from the small Eco Lola clutches and Eco_i iPhone pouches to larger Eco Avia messenger bags and Eco Spesa totes. Those warm colors come not from nasty chemicals, but from natural vegetable dyes.

While Zaum is focusing on its green credentials, it hasn’t forgotten about all of those functional features we love. Adjustable shoulder straps, interior pockets, and secure magnetic snaps are all there to make our lives easier.

Not all Zaum bags are created equal though. Many won’t please green fashionistas as they’re made from vinyl. I’d love to see Zaum phase these bags out entirely, but while they bring in the dollars I won’t hold my breath. Thankfully each green bag bears the Eco name, so it’s easy for eco-conscious shoppers to spot the label’s earth-friendly accessories.

Organic Cotton Bags on eBay

Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers label is nothing if not reliable. Its bags are never fashion forward, but they still manage to tempt us with their cutesy prints.

This Lollipop tote is no exception, with its sugary pattern called Pretty in Pins. It’s easy to see where the name came from, as it seems this purse is studded with rows of playful stick pins. In fact there are just three real pins; the pattern behind them creates a clever trompe l’oeil which gives this large bag a fun, retro feel.

That print aside, this is a fairly bog standard bag. That’s not altogether a bad thing though, as such a detailed pattern doesn’t need any other embellishments to distract us.

What this tote lacks in innovation it makes up for in features. The busy pattern makes it easy to overlook the two exterior pockets, while the zip and cell phone pockets inside make the generous space seem more manageable.

Some folks may feel the cutesy Pretty in Pins print is too juvenile, or the nylon body too cheap, but for $78 I think this tote is a great way to carry your everyday loot.

Tory Burch’s line has something of a split personality. Half her bags are trend-driven and hip, and the other half are conservative and classic. While I prefer the former aesthetic, this Jaden tote is a great example of how versatile her more traditional bags are.

The medium tan leather on this tote will go with just about anything. It has just enough of a red undertone to give a rich, russet look without making it too colorful. The subtle quilting gives it a modern classic appeal.

The Jaden isn’t really as small as the name implies. In fact, it’s generous enough to fit a laptop and a couple of notebooks, and perfectly chic for business use. I would prefer that the rolled leather handles were a bit wider, for comfort reasons, but in terms of style, the slim handles balance out the style beautifully.

$435 is a pretty price to pay for a daily tote, but this is the kind of bag that will last a lifetime without ever going out of style.

Beyonce is one lucky lady. We’re not quite sure what was sitting under her Christmas tree, but it seems many of her gifts came in those distinctive orange Hermes boxes.

Her rapper husband Jay-Z was reportedly spotted spending around US$350, 000 at the French luxury store on Christmas Eve. It’s tough for mere mortals to get those last minute gifts, but when you can throw around that sort of cash I’ll bet it’s a cinch.

“Jay was in a private room of Hermès doing last-minute shopping,” The Sun newspaper reported. “He had a guard standing watch outside.“

The source confirmed that a prized Birkin bag was amongst the swag, although we’re unsure whether he got one of the standard $9000 purses, or a more luxurious $34, 000 croc skin one. Either way, he’d still have plenty of cash left for silk scarves, jewelry, and other exclusive trinkets.

Whatever Jay-Z took home, I’ll bet Beyonce was a very happy lady on Christmas morning!
