Calypso St. Barth is the latest label to create a diffusion line for Target. The collection will feature women and children’s apparel, handbags and other accessories, and homewares.

The affordable range will feature the same relaxed summery style that endeared the label to celebs like Jennifer Aniston and Kate Beckinsale.

“Calypso St. Barth is a renowned global brand with an incredibly loyal following and we think Target’s guests will love the no-fuss, sophisticated appeal of the collection,” Target’s senior vice president of merchandising Trish Adams told FabSugar.

Calypso St. Barth handbags typically cost around $250, and many of its flowing resort dresses are priced at $450. The Calypso St. Barth for Target pieces are much more affordable for frugal shoppers though; they’ll cost between $1.99 and $79.99.

The Calypso St. Barth collection for Target will hit stores across America and online on May 1. That’s perfect timing for girls looking to add a few new pieces to their summer wardrobes!

J. Renee keeps things uncharacteristically simple with this Makensy clutch.

The Makensy is one of J. Renee’s most conservative purses, but I think that makes it one of the brand’s most versatile choices. Thankfully here conservative isn’t code for boring. Its clean, angular shape is really eye-catching, and we’re drawn to the beaded panels around the flap.

If you want value for your dollar I’d choose this platinum leather version. It’s a little brassy, but also a bit more luxurious than the black fabric alternative. It’s surprising that both are priced at $90, as the leather Makensy’s material is far superior. You might worry about working the metallic into your wardrobe, but this should look more eye-catching against dark neutral evening garb.

The Makensy is generously sized compared to most evening clutches, so you should be able to fit a few extra bits and pieces inside it. That does make it slightly awkward to clutch if it’s full, but thankfully J. Renee has added a long chain strap to help us out.

It’s easy to be blindsided by J. Renee’s showier clutches, but I the subtle charm of this Makensy makes it much more versatile.

J. Furmani gives us dazzling evening looks for less with this classic hard case clutch.

This is one of those purses that, from a distance at least, looks like a million dollars. Its hexagonal barrel shape just veers left of center, and it sparkles when it catches the light.

It’s only when you get closer that the illusion shows cracks. Its body isn’t covered in gemstones like some four-figure Judith Leiber purse, but simply a glittery material. And those jewels at the clasp are rhinestones rather than expensive Swarovski crystals.

For fashion snobs, these compromises simply won’t do. But for a mere $35, I think J. Furmani’s made some clever design choices for recessionistas here. Unless your social calendar is crowded with high class soirees, I think it’s best to spend as little as you can on an evening bag!

After all, even Judith Leiber bags aren’t flawless. Just like the high-class clutches it imitates, this hard case purse doesn’t offer a lot of storage space. It does have a shoulder strap tucked away inside though, which is honestly more than I expected for the price.

If you’ve got the funds, by all means buy a Judith Leiber minaudiere. But if you don’t, this J. Furmani clutch is a great budget alternative.

Inge Christopher typically produces beaded bags which hearken back to the classic days of fashion. While they’re lovely, it’s refreshing to see the label embracing a more modern look with this Pop clutch.

There are three different Pops to choose from, each one with the stuff to really attract attention. This multicolored version is my favorite, as it seems like it was made from a contemporary watercolor painting. The pretty pleating enhances the vivid shades, creating a look which is feminine and flirty. If this one doesn’t speak to you, you’ll also find the Pop in an earth-toned retro floral print, and bold black and white animal stripes.

The frame design, with its kisslock clasp, is a throwback to the Inge Christopher of old. This classic style gives the Pop an elegance which underpins the design. The short chain also ensures the Pop looks just as good over the shoulder as it does in your hand.

I’d be remiss not to mention the lack of storage space that comes with such a slender, structured design. It adds sophistication but means we can only carry little more than a tube of lip gloss, keys, vital cards and a slim cell phone.

At $115 this isn’t the cheapest clutch you’ll find, but it’s certainly not the most expensive either. And just imagine how it’d look paired with your favorite little black dress!

New York based Filipino designer Rafe Totengco was recently named the new creative director of Nine West’s handbag division.

His name should be familiar to BagBunch readers, as he’s the brains behind the Rafe accessories line, a collection which is sold in more than 60 stores worldwide, and a favorite of celebs like Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan, and Fergie.

Totengco also has a string of honors under his belt, including most recently the 2010 Filipino Presidential Award.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rafe to the Jones family of talent,” said Richard Dickson, president and chief executive officer of Branded Businesses at Nine West’s parent company, Jones Apparel Group. “An important element of our mission is to nurture and attract design and merchant talent to help drive our multi-category multi-branded business. Rafe’s gift for world class design, combined with Jones’ resources and brands will take our handbag business to new heights.“
