Radley Canning Town Tote | Small Coral Red Leather Grab Bag

Posted on: Feb 6

Radley Canning Town ToteAs winter gives way to spring, I’m looking to ditch my bright red leather bag for something more seasonal. This coral colored Canning Town tote from Radley may be just what I’m looking for.

That sweet shade saves the Canning Town from being passed over. It’s such a classic bag, with an otherwise unremarkable design. It’s certainly stylish, but this traditional flap style probably wouldn’t have turned heads. In this warm coral though, it’s another matter.

The kaleidoscope charm and beaded tassels make this classic tote seem a bit too busy for my tastes. Thankfully though, they’re easily removable if you prefer a sleeker look.

Radley calls this a small tote, but I’m not sure it is by modern standards. Handbags are getting smaller, and while it might have been seen as small once, today it’s at least mid-sized, if not large. It’s got all the space you could want, and with two main compartments there’s no excuse for becoming disorganized.

The final clincher for me is the price. At $258, this Radley Canning Town tote is a very affordable way to add a bit springtime cheer to your wardrobe.

  • Floral-print lined interior
  • Dual carry handles

Devi Kroell Prepares Dax Gabler Line | Designer’s Affordable New Collection

Posted on: Feb 5

Devi KroellDevi Kroell’s not letting the grass grow around her feet. After stepping down as creative director of her namesake company last year, Kroell has announced a brand new, and more affordable, label. The proud New Yorker will launch her new Dax Gabler line at the Big Apple’s fashion week on February 16.

Dax Gabler will sell apparel, shoes, and handbags at more affordable price points than Kroell’s original line. They’re not exactly cheap, with prices starting at $250 and topping $890, but compared to Devi Kroell’s four and five-figure items they’re almost a steal!

I don’t expect to see the luxury exotics that Devi Kroell’s so famous for, although perhaps she’ll surprise me. If Kara Ross can offer bags made with snake and lizard for under a thousand, I suppose there’s hope! At any rate, Devi Kroell has always been a fabulous designer, so I’m excited to see what goodies Dax Gabler offers. Don’t you agree?

Puma Ice Satchel | Puffy Black Casual Synthetic Handbag

Posted on: Feb 5

Puma Ice SatchelEver since the first summer accessories started to trickle into the fashion magazines, we’ve been looking forward to warmer weather. The snow storms blanketing much of the United States don’t help matters either. But it seems that winter has well and truly set in, so we might as well embrace it. Puma helps us do that with this funky Ice satchel.

This distinctive purse looks like it was crafted out of those puffy jackets we all used to wear. Its synthetic body is a bit cheap and cheerful, but it’s got such a personality about it that I don’t mind the lack of luxury.

The Ice satchel’s casual style is matched by a well designed interior. It’s incredibly roomy, with tough as nails polyester lining and practical pockets in both side walls. The patent rolled handles look a bit hard, but they’re long so they shouldn’t be too uncomfortable to carry.

At $80 this Puma satchel is an affordable and modern way to schlep your stuff about the city. Get yours in basic black or wintery white.

More Features of This Puma Puffy Satchel

  • Zip top closure
  • Dual handles with an 8.5 inch drop
  • Measures 12.5 x 16 x 5.5 inches
  • Made in China

Diane Kruger No Designer Diva | Star Waited Six Year for Hermes Bag

Posted on: Feb 5

Diane KrugerMost of us envy the celebrities, and their bank accounts that allow them to pick up the handbags we’re all coveting. But it seems that not every star is splashing cash around on It bags. Actress Diane Kruger recently admitted it took her six years to make her first big purchase!

The Hermes Constance bag was the object of her affection, but she certainly didn’t rush out to own one.

The thing I despise most is vulgarity, and there’s a lot of that here [in LA],” she told US Glamour magazine. “The biggest fashion purchase I ever made I thought about for six years. I’m not kidding. All my life, I wanted to own an Hermès Constance bag and when I signed with Calvin Klein, I decided this was the time that I could afford it. I truly broke a sweat when I paid for it.

Even today Kruger certainly isn’t throwing around her money. While she loves to browse the High Street stores, she’s just as likely to buy a pair of over-sized sunglasses at the drugstore!

What a refreshingly down-to-earth actress Diane Kruger is. I’ll bet she appreciates that Constance bag more than those starlets with overflowing accessories closets!

Proenza Schouler Mochila Satchel | Simple Red Patterned Fabric Holdall

Posted on: Feb 5

Proenza Schouler Mochila SatchelProenza Schouler does the utilitarian look well, but in time all of its handbags start to appear the same. So I’m thrilled to see the label step out of the box with this Mochila satchel.

Don’t get me wrong; this patterned bag doesn’t hold a candle to all those PS1s we’ve drooled over for so many years. But it is refreshing to see a satchel that walks a bit differently. Its clean lines help Proenza Schouler pull off the ambitious Aztec print that decorates the red fabric exterior.

The black leather logo plate disrupts the Mochila’s looks, but it’s not as ostentatious as many similar labels. It’ll also please those girls who still love to advertise who they’re carrying over their shoulder.

The Mochila’s dimensions are generous, so happily we don’t have to leave anything we really want behind. Unhappily though, Proenza Schouler hasn’t really thought about what a big bag needs. A big bag needs plenty of pockets, not the single zippered pouch we get here. And it needs a substantial strap to take its weight, rather than the skinny Minnie we get here.

Gripes aside, this Proenza Schouler bag is relatively affordable at $225. If you’ve always hoped to own a piece of the label, this satchel might be your chance.

  • Custom jacquard lined interior
  • Measures 15 x 14 inches

Yves Saint Laurent Y Cork & Patent Leather Clutch | Amazing Iconic Cork Purse

Posted on: Feb 4

Yves Saint Laurent Y Cork And Patent Leather ClutchYves Saint Laurent is one of the most long-standing French fashion houses. It’s definitely had its ups and downs over the years, but for the most part, the YSL name has remained relatively synonymous with chic glamor. This Y cork and leather clutch is a great example of the line’s signature combination of innovation and traditionalism.

I’ve never seen cork used in this way before, and honestly, I’m totally blown away by it. It’s not just that the label chose such an extraordinarily unique material; it’s also that it’s been treated with a beautiful gold finish that adds subtle sparkle to the earthy look. The patent leather accents contrast with the cork gorgeously, and give a bit of high-low, shiny-matte contrast that is perfectly balanced.

The shape of the cork isn’t particularly earth-shattering, but the rest of the design is so innovative that it really doesn’t need to be. The Y-shaped flap front creates an interesting pattern against the cork and the tuck-in clasp is a nice smooth addition to the look.

Honestly, I love this bag so much that I wouldn’t really care how much it cost, but I do think that $550 is remarkably reasonable.

Jimmy Choo Rosalie Stamped Leather Bag | Posh But Unexciting Light Brown Bag

Posted on: Feb 4

Jimmy Choo Rosalie Stamped Leather BagThe Jimmy Choo label is the unofficial prince of posh urban style. It has sort of a pared down bohemian aesthetic that works well for more conservative women. This Rosalie bag, unfortunately, looks too much like the iconic Hermes Birkin for me to think it’s very interesting.

The soft brown leather on the Rosalie is well chosen. It’s pale, versatile, and has a very subtle texture. The gold hardware keeps the look warm and understated, and the tonal straps and plackets are minimal and sleek.

Unfortunately, the shape is so much like the Birkin’s that I just can’t help comparing them. There’s nothing wrong with that, I guess, except that Jimmy Choo is such a prominent label on its own that it doesn’t really need to rip off other people’s designs. The other thing is that the Rosalie lacks the streamlined simplicity of the Birkin. All the grommets and details make it just a bit less balanced.

At $1,495, the Rosalie is significantly less expensive than the Birkin, so if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, it’s definitely an option. But, really, why not just save up for the real thing? At least you know it will retain its resale value.

  • 14″ x 11″ x 5″ size
  • 4″ strap drop
  • Fully lined in beige suede

Turtle Shaped Novelty Leather Wristlet | Cute Unusual Purse

Posted on: Feb 4

Turtle Shaped Novelty Leather WristletTurtles. Is there anything better for cheering you up on a long and miserable Friday afternoon?

OK, so turtles aren’t a particularly well known anti-depressant, but I think they should be. After all, who could deny the fact that there is something wildly happy about this silly little wristlet? It may not be serious (or even particularly functional!), but one glance at that cute little face and beautiful emerald green color, and you’re feeling as right as rain.

That color does make this bag a little more likely to be purchased and, dare I suggest it, actually used. The richness is thanks to the real leather, a tanned cowhide that holds its shape well and makes this purse surprisingly durable.

It is perhaps more of an addition to an existing bag (as a coin purse, perhaps?) than a handbag in its own right, but this turtle wristlet is lovely!

  • Also available in brown
  • Tanned cowhide exterior
  • Detachable wrist strap
  • Zip closure

Prezzo Multi Sequin Hobo | Glitzy Pink Sequined Handbag

Posted on: Feb 4

Prezzo Multi Sequin HoboI’ve seen some glitzy handbags from Prezzo, but this Multi Sequin Hobo really takes the cake.

I know many of you are retching at the sight of this sugary pink purse, but bear with me. It might be a bit over the top, but I can’t fault its craftsmanship. Tiny sequins create undulated waves near the top, which give way to larger hanging sequins at the base. I can just imagine how all of discs would sparkle as you step out. This is certainly a purse that makes a definitive style statement, even if many won’t like what it’s saying!

And unlike so many evening bags, this hobo is actually very practical. It’s much larger than your average after-five purse, with a long, comfortable shoulder strap and convenient zippered pocket. And with a price tag of just $45, you’ll have more left in your wallet to spend on cocktails!

I’m sure many of you just won’t stomach such a sickly shade of pink, but don’t fret. There are six more colors to choose from, so there’s bound to be one that speaks to you.

  • Top zip entry with double zipper pull
  • A single shoulder strap with a 12.5 inch drop
  • Measures 1 x 9.5 x 12 inches

Accessory Network Group Buys Kooba | ANG Expands Handbag Holdings

Posted on: Feb 4

Kooba BagsKooba has been snapped up by Accessory Network Group, the company that oversees other handbag labels like Nicole Miller, LeSportsac, and Bisou Bisou. The group bought Kooba from Swander Pace Capital, who acquired the label in 2007, for an undisclosed sum.

We are very excited about adding this iconic luxury handbag brand to our growing handbag business,” said Abe Chehebar, CEO of Accessory Network Group. “We look forward to working closely with Abbe Held, creative director of Kooba, in continuing to expand Kooba in both retail as well as international distribution.

Chehebar continued that it seems he’s found a “wife” for Ghurka, ANG’s men’s leather goods line. What a cute idea!

It seems like it will be business as usual for Kooba, who will continue to release handbags, shoes, and other leather accessories under the Accessory Network Group banner. Held says she hopes the new ownership will give her company “the opportunity to expand into new markets and categories, creating the full essence of the Kooba brand.”

I’ve never heard of a takeover as amicable as all this, but on paper it sounds like a win-win situation for everyone. Except perhaps Swander Pace, who’s notably stayed mum about the business deal!
