Wow what a color! The main selling point of this luxury tote from Studio Pollini is that dusky pink tone.

Aside from the color of that gently crinkled leather, what we have here is a simple but very large tote. The slouchiness gives it a flexibility that more rigid handbags don’t, and I would be surprised if there wasn’t enough room in that huge and functionally canvas-lined interior for everything you could want to carry, and maybe even more! It is so big that the two sides are given extra reinforcement by a strap that connects the two. This may not seem that exciting, but it does mean there is less chance of your bag breaking if you fully load it.

Of course, practicality and gorgeous leather like this don’t come cheap. Studio Pollini is a luxury brand, and this means a luxury price tag of $414. On the one hand this is a lot for a very simple tote, but on the other hand you do get a remarkable color and some great workmanship. No interior compartments though, which is surprising for such a large bag. It should last you for years, but is this enough to convince you?

Smart, sophisticated, and gently different from the norm, this is a plain tote that is far from boring.

It may not be from her fashion house, but something tells me that Coco Chanel would approve of the Jesse B. Collection clutch that shares her name.

This is a simple but elegant purse, with a jaunty black and white bow dressing up the gray tweed body. This is a wonderful wintery material. After seeing so many new springtime bags, it’s refreshing to look at one which embraces the current season.

The Jesse B. Collection doesn’t veer too far away from its design vision here. The shape and frame top would be familiar to its fans, but the choice of material and that pretty bow help to make it something different. Considering its generous size I’m disappointed there’s no shoulder strap, but it shouldn’t become too hard to handle unless you overstuff it.

I’m always excited when a good looking bag comes in under that magic $100 mark, so at $95 I think the Coco’s price is just right.

Why settle for one bag, when you can get two for the same price? Alright, when you get down to it this Lotus Chocolate tote is still one bag, but as it’s reversible we can enjoy two different looks.

In regular mode this tote has a funky 70s print. The colored lotus blooms really pop against the chocolatey brown finish, and they have me craving spring. I can just imagine this pattern serving as wallpaper in my parents’ first apartment! If it’s too groovy for you, simply turn the tote inside out. Worn this way it’s a perfectly plain coral red bag. The warm color is ideal for the approaching season, and just the thing when you’re wearing a patterned ensemble!

As we’ve come to expect from reversible totes, the Lotus Chocolate is low on features. There are two open side pockets, but Tepper Jackson’s left the inside bare. It has to be this way, as anything on the inside you’ll see once the tote is reversed, but it’s still disappointing. That makes this tote more appropriate for carrying bulky goods to the beach or gym than everyday use.

While we’re talking limitations, there is also no closure here so you’ll need to keep an eye on your stuff. What a shame Tepper Jackson didn’t think to close its side pockets with zips, as this bag would benefit from some secure storage room.

If you demand little more from your tote than simply space and style, you won’t mind spending $48 on this one. Its reversible design adds value, but I think Tepper Jackson may have overestimated just how much.

I’m not sure whether it’s as heavenly as Temperley London claims, but there’s a certain charm to Temperley London’s Celestial Coin Purse.

The combination of square metal accents and traditional nail head studs is really striking, and what lifts this classic shaped coin purse. Without them it’d be pretty stock standard stuff, although admittedly in a fun petrol blue color. This playful teal is too cute for me to resist, but if you’re a traditionalist you’ll be happy to note it’s also available in biker-chic black.

The oversized zipper pull should make it a bit easier to access the change you’re storing inside this baby. I’m thrilled that Temperley London has opted for a zip rather than a magnetic snap or any other type of closure, as it’ll keep our coins that much more safe. That’s particularly important if you plan on stashing this coin purse inside a larger tote when you step out.

Personally I think it’s a shame to hide such a stylish purse away. If you know how to travel light, you could definitely use this dainty accessory as a clutch. If you can make this purse work double duty, it’ll help justify that $90 price tag.

I am so tired of designers making canvas bags, throwing a label on them and charging $1,000 plus. Seriously, unless you absolutely have to have a giant logo on your bag or you have oodles of cash, what do you need with a $1,000 cotton tote? Gucci, I am sorely disappointed in you for this Craft tote.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I hate how the bag looks. Honestly, the design is solid. It has a faux artsy-craftsy look to it that is casual and wearable. And the color scheme, in classic creme and a deep rich brown, is super versatile. I even like the subtle details, like the brass hardware. But at $1,110, I just can’t overlook the price tag. That’s the cost of a short Caribbean vacation if you live in the States.

The size of the Craft is ample, which makes it great for gathering groceries or wildflowers, or whatever you are meant to do with a pricey, but casual, tote. It’s sturdy, and it will definitely last you a lifetime in terms of style, as well. I guess when you think about it as replacing eleven less high quality canvas totes, it makes a little more sense, but I’m still not buying it.

Designer Carrie Ella Carmichael will open the doors of her first showroom on March 1. The space at 4043 N. Ravenswood, Chicago, showcases her Dream Bag Boutique Design Lounge and Carrie Ella Handbag Collection.

“I wanted to bring true luxury to women who look to enjoy perfectly crafted Italian handbags without paying a premium price for them,” Carmichael said. “My collection reflects my years of research in Italy for the best craftsmanship combined with the highest-quality material in a trendsetting design.“

The showroom has been some time coming for Carmichael, who’s clocked up five years in the business. The space will also double as a venue for intimate social functions and charity events. Carmichael will customize the soirees for her guests, using her Italian leather handbags as decorations!

It’s an exciting time for the American designer who is also preparing to take her bags to Hollywood. The Carrie Ella spring collection will make its debut at the Roger Neal Style Hollywood Academy Awards Fashion and Beauty Suite. Bottega Veneta is a line that has changed my mind about a lot of things. First, it convinced me that woven bags are okay with its beautiful intrecciato technique, and now it’s doing the same with ombre coloring. This Veneta hobo is a beautiful and unique addition to the line.

The intrecciato weaving is, as usual, beautiful and refined. But it’s the ombre dyed color pattern that makes the bag for me. Usually, I think of ombre as something for beach towels and cheap tee shirts, but this ombre looks anything but cheap or cheesy. It’s not just the dip-dyed effect that makes it powerful; it’s also the change in texture from the matte tan leather of the top to the darker, glossier bottom.

The shape of the Veneta is genius. It’s really seamless and aerodynamic, two things I never think of when I think of woven bags. As a hobo, it has a great slouch to it. The color pattern gives it sort of a bohemian look, but it doesn’t look overly casual like a lot of hobos. This bag is definitely a classic, and at $1,980, it’s priced like one.

You know it’s a recession when all the most fashionable handbags start coming in brown leather. Even Miu Miu, known for taking aesthetic risks, is playing it a little safer this season. It’s a good move on the label’s part. Its ostentatious style is a little unreliable, but this leather tote is pretty classic.

I’m not crazy about the color of this brown. It’s not particularly warm, and it looks a little retro 70s in a cheap polyester sort of a way. That being said, it is very versatile, and will go well with all your navies and other browns.

The classic tote shape of this bag makes it extremely practical, but the size isn’t particularly so. Honestly, it’s giant enough that a minimalist like me could fit a whole weekend in it. I think Miu Miu might be better off marketing it as luggage, because the unwieldy combination of its slim strap and huge size makes it almost impossible to imagine lugging it around all day, every day.

The traditional, tailored look is cool, but at $1,670, I think it kind of misses the mark. It’s priced at a pretty serious luxury bag price for something so everyday.

The basket-weave means that this pale purse is definitely one for spring and summer. I would be worried about taking it out on a wet winter day, so you may want to delay its début until the warmer months. It is tightly woven though, and this may make this patent clutch a bit more durable.

The Elaine Turner Bianca clutch was pretty to start with, but in basket-weave it is even better!
