Mulberry’s line of Bayswater bags is a bonafide phenomenon. Its classic, streamlined designs are popular across the fashion spectrum, from socialites to celebrities. This iPhone case is a very chic, but somewhat unwieldy way to carry your cell.

The blue patent leather on this case is very sleek. I love the way it looks, but honestly, with as often as most people use their phones, I doubt that it will keep this crisp, reflective look for long. Until the gloss fades, however, the combination of the slick texture and bright color make this a bag that’s pretty hard not to notice.

The shape of the case is like a little mini Bayswater, which looks really good, but I’m afraid is a little impractical. If all you need to carry is your iPhone and a few credit cards, this might be a great option for you, but if you even need a set of keys, it’s just not going to be enough.

The Bayswater iPhone bag is more of a novelty than anything else, and it just doesn’t warrant the $250 price tag.

I wish that Valentino was a label that I could rely on. Honestly, I don’t expect much of it anymore, so I was extremely pleased to see this gorgeous rosette embellished clutch. It’s everything that Valentino was known for in the past: elegant, feminine, and uncluttered.

It might be confusing that I call this bag “uncluttered”, since it is literally covered in satin rosettes. But what I mean is that the design is uncluttered and coherent. The subtle graduated coloring of the rosettes simultaneously draws your attention and also adds to the subtlety. Plus, the pink, green, and black color palette is muted and chic.

The shape of the bag is simple, which is why it’s successful. It allows the beauty of the rosettes to shine through without weighing you down with too many distractions. Ordinarily I might not like the addition of the large black bow, but I think it adds a certain edgy asymmetry that is crucial to the design of the bag.

At $1,295, I’m not crazy about the price, but I think that its beauty might just be worth it.

Get that saccharine ice cream parlour vibe with this cute tote from B. Makowski.

The Burbank tote is all about the colors. Blue and pink is more the kind of pairing you expect to see in a nursery, but thanks to the interesting shades the designer has picked it really works without unnecessary clashing. Particularly nice is the way the suede-like interior coordinates with the little blue tops of the two exterior pockets.

This bag has a lot of room, always nice in a tote! The wide base allows a bucket shape, with easily enough capacity for folders and bulky items. For some reason I can imagine this making it very suitable to a college student! The zip pocket comes in handy too, although a couple more pockets would encourage organization. Still, the Lites Burbank tote only costs $78.41, and for this sort of money you can’t really expect 10 zillion compartments!

With top marks in the cute department, this is a spacious bag  just made for having fun with!

Just how does Vitalio Vera keep making bags that look this good for less than $50? I’m really not sure, but I’m glad it does!

Honestly, this hobo has more style about it than many hobos twice its price. I really like the delicate studded patches running down the seams, even if they do make the bag resemble a football! They’re cute and quirky, so they’re just fine by me. Vitalio Vera allows these accents to speak for themselves and keeps the rest of the bag frill free.

Lacey is a large hobo, so you’ll never have to leave anything behind. I would have appreciated a few more pockets, but that’s nitpicking at this price really. A pair of open pouches and a zippered compartment go some way towards keeping us organized, and it’s more than many designers offer!

Of course Vitalio Vera needed to make some sacrifices to keep that bottom line down. This bag is made from synthetic rather than leather, and not a particularly high quality one at that. It’s a bit stiff, so it doesn’t slouch as nicely as a high-end designer hobo would. But it is tough, and should do the job for several seasons. And when it does show wear, it’s not very expensive to replace!

After being ousted at Christian Dior following anti-Semitic comments in a French café, John Galliano has his tail firmly between his legs. It probably won’t win over the world’s Jewish population, but at least he’s done the right thing and apologized for his outburst.

“I must take responsibility for the circumstances in which I found myself and for allowing myself to be seen to be behaving in the worst possible light. I only have myself to blame and I know that I must face up to my own failures and that I must work hard to gain people’s understanding and compassion. To start this process I am seeking help and all I can hope for in time is to address the personal failure which led to these circumstances and try and earn people’s forgiveness,” he said.

“Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologize for my behavior in causing any offense.“

Perhaps Galliano’s hoping his apology will help when he faces court sometime between April and June. Making anti-Semitic comments in France is a felony, and if found convicted Galliano could face a six-month prison stint and $31, 000 in fines.

I can’t imagine the fashion designer will be very fond of dowdy prison jumpsuits!

B. Makowsky reminds us of the beauty of a classic hobo bag with the Claremont.

It seems the hobo has been reinvented more times than any other handbag style, so much so that’s difficult to remember exactly what a hobo bag should be! The Claremont is it though folks, with its distinctive crescent shape and relaxed, slouchy silhouette. The buttery leather is the perfect material for this casual style, which is further accentuated by the V-shaped pleat.

Some fashionistas may wish B. Makowsky had taken a few more fashion risks here, but perhaps delivering a classic hobo these days is risk enough. I think the braided accents threaded through uniquely shaped grommets give it just enough individual flair.

And then there’s the leopard print lining. It’s a lovely counterpoint to the reserved exterior, reminding us that B. Makowsky is still a wild child at heart. The interior is generously sized, but its leather trimmed pockets make sure the space still feels manageable. I also particularly like the small phone pocket on the back. This will sit against your body, and if your cell is set to vibrate you won’t miss a call!

I rarely warm to a brown bag, but this one is so rich and chocolatey that I’m finding it difficult to resist. The Claremont is also available in black, garnet, and nutmeg.

A vintage 1964 black crocodile Christian Dior handbag is amongst American socialite Wallis Simpson’s personal items to be auctioned for charity.

Ms Simpson was a colorful figure, famous for her affair with Great Britain’s King Edward VIII. The scandalous relationship, which resulted in the king’s abdication, was referred to in the Oscar winning film The King’s Speech.

The Christian Dior handbag isn’t the only item to interest bagistas. There’s also a Louis Vuitton vanity case from the sixties and an engraved Cartier necessaire du soir. They’ll be sold in London on March 17 by Kerry Taylor Auctioneers. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Dodi International Charitable Foundation, an organization which provides medical care to children and families in need throughout the United States, Britain, France, and Egypt.

You might want to start saving if you’ve got your heart set on that exotic croc Christian Dior purse. One of Wallis Simpson’s Cartier bracelets sold for a record breaking $7 million last November, so clearly interest in this socialite is sky high!

In recent years we’ve seen the Whiting & Davis label transform from vintage inspired mesh lover to contemporary metal head. I’ve been excited by the way the fashion house has taken metal mesh into the 21st century, but with the Crystals Clusters clutch I wonder whether it’s gone a step too far.

The rolled metal mesh body is classic, an anchor point for the contemporary center detail. Chunky Swarovski crystals dot the crackled metallic leather insert. I can’t fault the quality of the materials, but the way it’s all put together seems tacky somehow. I think Whiting & Davis was shooting for rebellious attitude, but it instead seems a bit desperate.

It’s a shame, because the Crystal Clusters is a pretty well designed bag. While it’s slender, its long dimensions afford us a bit more storage space than the average clutch. The slip pocket provides a handy place for stashing receipts and dollar bills, and the drop-in chain is ready to help you go hands-free once the drinks trays come around.

Perhaps a Katy Perry or Pink type could pull this purse off, but I think I’ll stick to Whiting & Davis’ more classic looks.

Sue Whiteley is certainly no stranger to the world of luxury fashion. Prior to this appointment she was Louis Vuitton’s managing director, overseeing the French label’s operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Scandinavia. She’s also worked as the buying director at Harvey Nichols and president and CEO of Alexander McQueen.

“I’ve long believed that commerce and art can happily co-exist alongside one another,” Whiteley told the London Evening Standard. “In fact I believe they are essential to success in business. I’d like to think that my passion for art and culture has helped promote the vision of brands that I have worked with over the years.“

Whiteley’s certainly got the style chops to take on such a pivotal role. I’m looking forward to seeing her influence in future Givenchy collections. Do you think she’s the right woman for the job?

Get your hands on a limited edition signed Timmy Woods clutch!

I know Easter isn’t actually here yet, but doesn’t the Laura clutch look like an Easter egg? Or maybe, a Fabergé? It certainly doesn’t look like a handbag, which is how we know it is definitely one of Timmy Woods’ peculiar novelty purses!

When I say peculiar, I don’t necessarily mean bad. Instead, I just mean that this curved wooden purse will stand out from all the rest. If the shape didn’t set it apart from the crowd, of course, the floral pattern and lace print clasp would do that, especially with the bold monochrome color scheme.

Of course, the Laura has to function as a handbag as well as a novelty accessory. To this end its hard wooden body folds open in the middle, and the surprisingly large purse can hold a reasonable amount. Don’t expect lots of space though!

This clutch comes signed which is going to be an added bonus for people who collect Timmy Woods purses!
