Reality TV star Caroline Manzo of The Real Housewives of New Jersey has teamed up with Kristino Handbags to launch her first handbag collection.

The Carolina Manzo, Family Faith & Charity Handbags and Accessories Collection looks to cater for fashionistas of all budgets, with luxury leather bags and cheaper PVC alternatives. There are also faux fur purses available to satisfy the animal lovers out there. Prices start at $50 for the cheapest accessories, and top $200 for the high-end bags. It’s unclear exactly how much involvement Manzo’s had in the design process, but it’s hard to be too critical of her efforts.

Because as the line’s name suggests, Caroline Manzo won’t be lining her own pockets with this accessories range. Proceeds from their sales will be distributed amongst Manzo’s favorite charities, including Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Citizens Reunited to Overcome Cancer, and The Wounded Warriors Project.

Jim Di Zenzo, the president of Kristino Handbags, said it’s inspiring to join forces with Manzo. He praised her passion for the handbags, generosity, and determination to succeed.

“To align ourselves with a person like this is truly a tremendous opportunity as the charities that will benefit are the real inspiration,” he added.

We’ll get our first look at The Caroline Manzo, Family, Faith & Charity Handbags and Accessories Collection during market week in New York this May. They’ll later be rolled out to major department and specialty stores.

Badgley Mischka downsizes its Melissa tote for this elegant clutch purse.

The wooden turn-lock we loved on the tote is used again here, and I’m glad to see its return. On a much smaller canvas we can really focus on this unique clasp. The rest of the Melissa seems to be built around it, almost as if its whole reason for being is to support that large retro closure. It provides that support admirably, with soft, voluminous black leather body and a smooth angular top.

If you thought this clutch was all style without substance you’d be wrong. Badgley Mischka has exceeded our expectations, offering one interior zip pocket and a pair of open pouches. We don’t even see all those features in some tote bags! The removable cross-body strap is the finishing touch. There’s enough room to carry it inside the spacious interior, but I like that we have the option to leave it at home.

At $375 the Melissa is pretty expensive as clutch purses go, but it’ll also work harder than the average for you. Are you tempted to splurge?

Lauren Bush’s FEED Projects is the latest fashion house to dig deep for Japan, following the country’s massive earthquake and the tsunami that followed. The altruistic label has created this FEED Japan bag to raise funds for relief efforts.

Organic cotton makes the ideal backdrop for the bright red circle of the Japanese flag on one side, and the words FEED Japan on the other. Each bag is made in the United States, and measures 12 x 19 inches. The long handles, which have a 12 inch drop, should make carrying comfortable when the tote’s loaded up. The FEED Japan tote’s casual styling is ideal for running errands, carrying fresh produce home from the markets, and holding your trainers and workout clothes.

Food is just part of the project’s work though. $10 from the sale of each bag will target the neediest relief initiatives assisting in Japan’s recovery.

Baby Phat fans needn’t abandon their fierce sense of style once little ones arrive, thanks to this faux python diaper bag.

I can’t imagine any label but Baby Phat creating this baby bag. Its gray snake print finish is pure Baby Phat. Frankly I think it looks a bit cheap and nasty, especially in PVC, but Baby Phat fans will likely embrace its attitude.

PVC isn’t luxurious, but it’s not without its merits here. A damp cloth is all you’ll need to keep it clean. That’s a real blessing for a bag that will be exposed to more sticky fingers and bodily fluids than most! It also keeps the price way down to a low $39.99. With the cost of diapers and other baby essentials sky high, new moms will be happy to save money here.

This diaper bag is also very cleverly designed. It’s enormous, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming thanks to some smart organizational aids. There are two main compartments and three interior pockets. These pouches complement the four we see on the outside. There’s also a matching change pad packed away, and an extra messenger strap for days on the go.

I’m not sure all those functional features are enough to change the minds of fashion snobs, but Baby Phat fans are getting a bargain here.

With most of the fashion world starting to show signs of stud fatigue, designers are on the look-out for the next big thing. Early indications are the grommets might just take the title. B. Makowsky uses the cute metal eyelets to great effect on this Barbara cross-body purse.

This is just one of the many Barbara bags from B. Makowsky, but personally I think it’s the best. Not so coincidentally, it’s also the smallest. On a dainty stone leather canvas, the mix of grommets and studs doesn’t seem overdone. I’m not always enthusiastic when designers mix metal, but on such a neutral leather the various shades add a subtle pop of color.

Aside from those accents this is pretty stock standard stuff. We’ve all seen flap bags like this before, but there’s a reason why that style is classic. But taking the well worn path B. Makowsky helps the Barbara stand the test of time. I have a feeling it’ll look fashionable, even when studs and grommets aren’t.

If the stone colored leather was sending you to sleep, just take a look inside this purse. The leopard print lining really livens things up! This space isn’t all about style though. The pair of open pouches and large zippered pocket help make it easier to get through our everyday.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is several months away, but Tommy Hilfiger is getting in early to do his part with the launch of a new limited edition bag. The handbag is Tommy Hilfiger’s fifth released to help Breast Health International, a global charity committed to finding a cure for the prevalent cancer. Since becoming involved with the charity in 2007, Tommy Hilfiger has raised more than €300, 000.

This year’s tote is made from vegetable-dyed tan suede with a subtle golden trim. The herringbone lining makes the bag feel just as luxurious inside as it does out. It will cost €299; €100 of this will benefit Breast Health International’s Fund for Living. This initiative helps to support women and men battling breast cancer. It recognizes the limitations of the world’s health care systems, and funds the essentials not covered to ensure patients can focus on their recovery.

Tommy Hilfiger launched the limited edition bag recently at a press conference with Renee Zellwegger, the bag’s ambassador. The Hollywood actress became involved with the project after she saw several friends and family members struggling with the disease.

The Tommy Hilfiger Breast Health International bag will hit the label’s flagship stores, selected department stores, and Tommy Hilfiger’s website on May 6.

I’d almost written Ashley M off as a fashion line. It seemed like the label was incapable of creating anything I took too seriously. And then it released the Mag Fashion clutch.

What a change of pace this purse is. There are no pop culture figures covering it, no sequins or bows. It’s a dramatic departure for the label that tends to favor kitsch design over the contemporary. Despite its cheap and cheerful materials, this is one stylish little number.

Its beige synthetic body is set off with tiny perforated flowers. You wouldn’t know they’re flowers from a distance, but up close the pattern adds a bit of interest. The Mag Fashion clutch is completed with a large O ring with a stylish weathered wood grain finish. I’m not so sure about it in the red wine color, but in beige I think Ashley M has gotten it right.

The Mag Fashion clutch’s modern good looks are complemented by a very practical design. It’s relatively large by clutch standards, but the organizational pockets make that space easier to manage. So does the attachable chain strap, which helps the Mag Fashion convert from a clutch to a cross-body purse in seconds.

The rock bottom $44 price tag seals the deal for me. It’s taken some time, but I think Ashley M has finally created a purse to impress serious fashion lovers.

We’ve all learned that using real fur is unethical, but Oscar Perez, designer for Indiana Abandon, is attempting to challenge those assumptions. He uses nutria fur in this stylish Monroe satchel.

The nutria is a rodent responsible for widespread damage to wetland areas in south-east Louisiana. Hunters are rewarded with a bounty for the tails of this destructive introduced species, but their bodies and pelts are generally discarded. Indiana Abandon sources this beautiful fur to create this luxurious satchel. In doing so he’s minimizing waste, and helping to protect the wetland habitats.

The Monroe satchel really is beautiful. Its structured style, complete with golden turn-lock closure, is right on trend. I also appreciate the organizer pockets and zippered pouch tucked away inside.

Unfortunately the Monroe satchel is the only Indiana Abandon bag to utilize nutria in the current collection, but I hope to see many more accessories made from this ethical fur. I’ve always secretly adored fur, and I’m thrilled to find a guilt-free way to wear it. The Monroe satchel is available from Project Artisan and the Indiana Abandon website for $750.
