Well well well, I do believe this may be the nicest tote I have ever seen from Tylie Malibu!

The two parallel bands of bronze pyramid studs are the first things that catch your eye, thanks to the way that they stretch around the center of this purse. In combination with the coordinating metal hardware they are particularly good looking, and add an accessibly punky vibe to the soft and slouchy shape.

In addition to the studded attitude of the Runaway West tote, there is something about it that sings to me of summer. I think the casual shape and soft stone leather remind me of practical combats, although I admit that with the addition of studs it is a bit more stylish that anything truly beachy ever could be. Also, I suppose, the metal wouldn’t like being dragged through all the sand and salt, making this a “look pretty on the promenade” option rather than a handbag you can really get down and dirty with.

With a pair of conveniently adjustable handles and gorgeous leather body, the cute Runaway West purse is surprisingly affordable at $472. It ain’t cheap, fo shizzle, but with lovely ingredients that  is more than reasonable.

Bally does away with tradition for this uniquely shaped Mae bowling bag.

The domed shape so familiar is forgotten, replaced with a more angular, trapezoidal shape. I’m not sure it’s ideal for holding bowling balls, but if you’re not lugging your kit to the local lanes you won’t mind that. The distinctive shape affords us a bit more storage space, not that we really need it!

I’m not sure why Bally calls the Mae a small bag, because at 22 inches wide it’s much bigger than most. It’s also not exactly slender, or squat. As far as most of us will be concerned, there’s nothing small about it.

Well, that is except for the handles. Their petite stature adds to the Mae’s retro looks, but they won’t make carrying easy, particularly if the Mae is packed to the brim. Bally provides a much longer strap, but it’s not as stylish. I hate having to choose between functionality and fashion, particularly when I’m paying $1495 for the privilege.

I love the retro racing stripes on this design, so it’s a shame to see them cluttered up by the hook accent. Bally says it makes the Mae more daring; I just think it looks messy. What do you think?

Sexy Mad Men siren Christina Hendricks has a handbag collection many of us would kill to own, and the actress says it’s still growing!

Christina says she loves to spend time on eBay scouring for designer handbag bargains. In fact, she’s such an eBay fanatic that she even has a ‘watching list’!

The next item on her wish list is a vintage crocodile clutch, but until then she seals the deal she’s content to carry a red Jimmy Choo purse from the Choo 24:7 collection. The Chloe Marcie is another of Hendricks’ favorite accessories.

“In Paris recently, I saw two girls carrying it,” she said. “We were all like, ‘I have your bag.’“

The actress, who recently fronted an advertising campaign for London Fog, says she loves to coordinate her favorite handbags with the perfect lipstick. In fact, she owns hundreds of the colored cosmetic tubes! They come in all colors of the rainbow, but her new favorite is Dolce & Gabbana’s vibrant Cosmopolitan shade.

I’ll bet Hendrick’s husband Geoffrey Arend is happy his wife has discovered eBay. Otherwise that obsession with handbags, not to mention her love of cosmetics, could get pretty pricy. Not that the Mad Men actress is earning a pittance, but we all know how quickly those designer purchases can add up!

Balenciaga pares back its usual motorcycle aesthetic to create something much more elegant with this Tube Tote.

This is a real departure for the brand, something that’s much cleaner and more reserved than its usual offerings. Ordinarily Balenciaga is a bit heavy-handed with its hardware, but here we only see metal on the top closure and front zippered pocket. The lack of metal works with the gentle blush pink color to create a tote that’s soft and feminine, without being sugary. I’ve never seen pink look quite as elegant as this. It’s a shade that could work as easily in the office as it would after quitting time.

The Tube tote is just as luxurious inside as it is on the exterior. It’s enormous and lined with suede for that extra dose of opulence. A leather framed hand mirror is another unexpected and welcome touch. A zippered pocket would have come in handy, but with two open pouches inside and that zippered pocket on the front I’m not about to gripe about its absence. The handles are a bit shorter than I’d like, but there’s a detachable long strap on hand for comfortable over-the-shoulder wear.

Balenciaga fans may find the Tube Tote a bit buttoned up for their tastes, but I appreciate the label exploring its more conservative side.

With shopping websites joining in Anna Wintour’s response to the global recession, no doubt more fashion lovers will have their credit cards at the ready this year. The sites will create virtual events to engage their clientele and give anyone who doesn’t live near a Fashion’s Night Out the ability to join in the fun. And what’s more, those fashionistas can do it in their pajamas. I’m starting to wonder whether it’s worth braving the crowds!

Details are a bit thin on the ground at the moment, which only adds to the anticipation. One of the first sites to sign up is Polyvore, which will feature goodies from other participating e-tailers and bricks and mortar store websites. The Sydney is another practical little number from travel bag specialists, Baggallini. It’s not incredibly fashion forward but there’s a certain charm to this nylon bag with its bold silver hardware. It doesn’t have a lot of personality but in a choice of 11 different colors, from the creative to the conservative, it’s got a little bit of flair.

Really though, the Sydney is all about functionality. It’s made of hard working nylon, which is easy to clean and light to carry. You can wear it cross-body, or unclip the straps and hold it like a clutch. Either way, there’s plenty of space for everything you need and loads of practical features.

Some of these features are more successful than others though. The wallet attachment and key holder are handy touches. However the slots are a little too large to securely hold credit cards, and the sideways placement of the pen loops makes them difficult to use. As they say in the classics, you can’t win them all.

For $89.95 the Sydney is probably a bit expensive for a travel bag, but if you can use it outside the holidays it becomes a bit more affordable.

Being beautiful and luxurious doesn’t have to mean being brash. This clever little satin clutch shows that there is more than one way to produce a structured handbag.

The structure isn’t in the actually shape of the handbag, but the layout of the satin exterior. You see, the cream satin fans out from a diagonal central strip of ribbon. The color is uniform throughout, so only the change in light reflecting off its shiny silky surface lets you see the structure. It’s subtle, classy and really quite gorgeous. In hot pink, which is one of the other color options, the Dickseea is transformed into something party-friendly too.

Paco Mena’s ribbon styling is, to be honest, the main component of this purse. Elsewhere it is average; functional, but kind of normal. Let me put it this way, the shape has been done before. That said, you wouldn’t expect anything more for just $43, and I think Paco Mena has delivered more than enough.
