I think most of us would struggle to carry bags with those vibrant patterns every day, but when we’re traveling we can get away with a little more personality. The colorful all-over print reminds me of something we might see inside a kaleidoscope. I’m not sure the metallic colored straps are the best match for the pattern, but they’re a bit of fun in their own right. Who cares about coordination with a bag this wild?

It’s called a mini weekender, so it’s no surprise that it’s meant for sleepovers rather than extended vacations. You should be able to fit everything you’ll need for a night or two away from home, but it won’t hold much more than that. The clear pockets make it easy to see what’s inside though, while the zip-around design makes packing and unpacking a breeze.

It’s not a luxurious piece of luggage, but for a cheap and cheerful $69 this is a fun and affordable way to carry your travel essentials.

Okay, I’m just going to come right out and say it. Miu Miu is a line of questionable taste. It’s not always disappointing, but it’s disappointing often enough to be noticeable. Fortunately, Miu Miu has shown remarkable restraint with this Aviator design and the results are beautiful.

Unlike so many of Miu Miu’s designs, the Aviator is clean and restrained. It has a simple hobo shape with a little added structure to keep your belongs in place and your look minimal. The only thing I don’t really like about the design is the overly complicated dual handles. For one thing, they’re a little thick, and for another, the shape is just a little too heavy for the bag.

What really makes this bag for me is the subtle contrast between the colors. The rich navy is pretty chic all its own, but the combination with the chocolatey brown takes it to another level. The material on the bag is brushed and matte, almost like nubuck, and the texture really works up against the semi-gloss of the handle and straps.

This is one of the best bags Miu Miu has put out in a long time. Unfortunately, the $1,495 is pretty daunting, even for a really great design.

Since 2007, British designer Tamara Fogle has taken recycling to the next level with her diverse range of eco-friendly handbags.

Fogle helps to differentiate herself from all those other eco-friendly labels by using unusual materials. There are collections made from antique German flour sacks, vintage Indian quilts, and vintage military sacks, to name a few. These are real vintage materials, rather than just old offcuts. Some of those military tents date back to the 40s, while those antique flour sacks originated between the 1830s and 1930s!

Sadly the leather bags and trim on the upcycled models is brand new though, which does lose the brand more than a few green points. I have to wonder why Fogle wouldn’t source leather offcuts, or even find a high-quality vegan alternative! It’s certainly enough to turn off the serious eco-shoppers.

Fogle’s background in antiques and interior styling has clearly played a part in the design of these purses, which have a classic vintage appeal. All Tamara Fogle purses are produced in family-run workshops in Fogle’s native London to minimize the carbon footprint.

Temperley London seems to have mellowed a little with this Sovereign Shoulder Bag. Gone is the black leather and bold hardware we’ve come to associate with the brand, replaced with a gentle tan skin and delicate studs.

The Sovereign reminds us that studs don’t always mean rebellion. These smaller accents draw attention to the elegant stitching and short handle. The tan color isn’t all that exciting, but it should be easy to incorporate into your wardrobe, no matter what the season.

The Sovereign’s looks drew me in, but its practical design is what really endears it. That short handle isn’t very functional, but it is removable. I’d probably ditch it and use the much longer cross-body strap. It’s so refreshing to see the smarter handle as the staple, rather than the other way around!

The Sovereign is a good everyday size, not so big or too small. The interior has the standard design of a single zippered pocket and pair of pouches. These pockets are trimmed in leather to help them survive all that use they’ll undoubtedly receive.

It’s hard to find fault with the Sovereign. Even the $895 price hasn’t turned me off. It’s not small change, but it’s certainly reasonable for a bag that will see so much use.

Banana Republic has worked with Mad Men’s costume designer Janie Bryant to create a new vintage-inspired fashion line. The retro diffusion collection will feature apparel for men and women, footwear, handbags and wallets, and even antiquated accessories like pocket squares and money clips.

Few people understand vintage fashion like Bryant, and Banana Republic’s creative director Simon Kneen said it was “a delight” to work with her to learn more about the period’s look and feel.

“Janie was instrumental in helping us achieve the series aesthetic and standard of authenticity with this capsule collection,” he explained.

This structured day bag, clutch purse, and belt, all in timeless leopard print, are just a few of the accessories on offer. They’re a great foil for the collection’s trench coats, high-waisted skirts, and matching leopard print pumps.

Banana Republic Facebook fans can take their pick of the 65 pieces available from August 10, ahead of the Mad Men collection’s official launch on August 11.

Tano delivers a different type of rock and roll bag with this Electrorocker.

There are no studs or spikes, no exposed zips. In fact, there are none of the classic signs of a rock and roll handbag at all. In this brown crunch leather it seems more like a sensitive 70s folk songwriter than a heavy metal hero.

I’m not really sure of the look of this bag, although I’m sure many retro fans will dig the contrast of brown on brown. I can’t help appreciating all its practical features though. You’ll note the pair of zippered pockets on the front, which complement the matching one inside. There are also two open pouches for gadgets, which help this handbag feel more contemporary than it looks. The comfortable flat handle and protective metal feet are smart touches, especially at this price point.

The Electrorocker is a very functional bag, and at less than $200 it’s affordable to boot. However I find myself craving the danger its musically inspired name promised, don’t you?

Cheep and cheerful handbags are just the sort of thing to buy as the end of the month approaches, and your purse strings tighten by the day!

This ZH Collection is just the ticket. You see, the $54 price tag is more wallet friendly than most, yet it also offers a chirpy and cheery design that is just right for making you smile as you get poorer!

The design is, of course, all about cartoons. Cute little line drawing doodles of funny cats cover the whole thing. It could be childish, especially due to the kiddie style of the drawings, were it not for the fact that the cartoons are broken up by lines of pleats. Suddenly it is more abstract, and thus much more grown up!

As for everything else? Well, it’s a simple fabric purse, one that does the job but not much more. It is, essentially, just a pretty clutch for having fun with, and there’s nothing wrong with that!

Susan Farber upsizes her Laurel clutch with this Hastings shoulder bag.

The Hastings has everything we loved about the Laurel. The soft ruffled leather, with its zippered edge, is an intriguing mix of sugar and spice. The gently braided strap is a great complement to those elements we first fell for. And all that extra space won’t go astray.

I’m a bit torn about the drawstring closure though. The gathers that this clasp creates are ideal for emphasizing the quality of this buttery leather. But it’s not very practical. It’s fiddly to use, and not very secure. I’m just not sure whether the look is compelling enough to justify those little niggles.

The lack of protective feet is another small disappointment. The platform base seems to be calling out for something to save it once it’s set down. You can try to treat it gently, but I’ll be surprised if you don’t see some scuffs after a few seasons.

I appreciate the extra room the Hastings affords us, but I’m not sure Susan Farber has done enough to support it here.

H&M appears to be going from strength to strength. After last year’s high profile collaboration with Lanvin, the Swedish retailer has announced its next diffusion line will be a partnership with Versace.

Fashion houses don’t come much bigger than the Donatella Versace helmed Italian juggernaut, and the thought of nabbing these designs at bargain basement prices should be enough to make any fashion fan salivate.

It sounds like there’ll be plenty of those designs to go around too, with 40 women’s pieces, 20 men’s pieces, and a slew of accessories in the pipeline. While we wouldn’t expect luxury to the level of the legendary fashion house’s signature collection, we will still see some real leather, on trend metal hardware, and stylish prints.

Donatella Versace says she’s “thrilled” about the collaboration, and the opportunity to reach the retailer’s wide audience. And it seems the admiration is mutual. H&M’s creative adviser Margareta van den Bosch called Versace “one of the most important brands of recent times.” She added that the H&M collaboration will be every bit as “glamorous and extraordinary” as we’d expect from Versace. It’ll just cost a lot, lot less.

Look for the Versace by H&M collection in around 300 American H&M stores from November 19.
