Sun N’ Sand offers a playful alternative to all those natural toned woven summer bags with this multicolored straw tote.

Rather than the classic beige toned straw, Sun N’ Sand has colored its natural fiber with every hue of the rainbow. Strands of the vividly dyed material radiate like the sun’s rays from the tote’s handles, creating an effect which is whimsical, even if it’s not very sophisticated.

The wooden handles are the let down for me. They’ve been wrapped in cotton thread in an attempt to cushion our hand, but wooden handles are never comfortable. Ring handles are never as practical as long straps either, so when they look as underwhelming as these I wonder what’s the point.

At least this tote is sizable, and better appointed than most beach bags with its generous accessories pouch. This pocket is ideal for holding a pair of sunglasses, some small change, and your jewelry while you’re in the surf.

It might not be the most grown-up beach bag you’ll see this summer, but I think we can afford to let loose when the weather warms up. And we can all afford it when it comes with a recession-friendly $46 price tag!

Sporty accessory line Live Well 360 has added two new handbags to its collection. The Accel and Luxx join the label’s existing medium handbag, the Core. Each is available in graphite gray and eggplant purple shades.

The Accel is the smallest in the collection, a great option for anyone who’s stopping by the gym after work for a quick session of calorie burning. It’s got a very cool quick-release Velcro yoga mat, a removable interior divider, and a convertible carry strap.

The Luxx is larger than the Accel and Core, and made for serious gym junkies. It has a massive eleven pockets and a very clever vented compartment for sweaty work-out gear and sneakers. There’s removable straps for holding a yoga mat, and even a padded laptop section for girls who can’t bear to part with their technology.

A Live Well 360 spokesperson says the company is building a line of sports bag to satisfy what its staff have been searching for. Hopefully those same bags will please other gym lovers too.

The Accel and Luxx models are currently available for pre-order, with a hefty 10% discount, ahead of their release in mid July. Once they’re on the market we can expect to pay $167 for the Accel and $207 for the larger Luxx.

I’ve always felt that Stuart Weitzman’s designs were a bit hit and miss. Sadly I think he’s come down on the latter side with this Cane Buddha shoulder bag.

There’s a certain appeal to the relaxed, unstructured shape of this large hobo bag. Its raised lattice-like pattern creates an interesting texture and just a dash of drama. But the gold color is more than a bit gaudy. I suppose girls who love to stand out might flock to such a shiny surface, but on such a large canvas I think it’s just too much.

Its mirrored sheen is deceptively luxurious. The Cane Buddha is actually made from nylon treated with a metallic coat. It’s a smart choice on a practical level, as it’s tough and easy to keep clean. But I would have expected this less than luxurious material to reduce the price of the purse. $378 is just too much to pay for a bag made from nylon, no matter whose name is attached to it.

The Cane Buddha’s large interior is well appointed with a tough nylon lining and selection of pockets. The flat handle should also feel heavenly on your shoulder. But all those functional features are available on so many bags, and many without such inflated price tags.

Diane Von Furstenberg has been sticking to really classic looks lately, but this Harper Bon Bon bag shows definite traces of her usual bohemianism. The Bon Bon may be a little bit boho, but its slick details make it look very mod and very cool.

The ostrich embossed saffron colored leather is so spectacular that I could spend this entire review raving about it. The color is subdued, but still striking, and the effect of the ostrich stamping is purely luxurious. The retro color and slight gloss make it look retro-mod, especially with the addition of the giant front clasp.

The shape of the Bon Bon is relatively simple, but the details give the bag a lot of complexity. It has one of my favorite straps ever, made of alternating shapes of gold and gold and leather chain links. The matte texture of the brown suede tassel adds extra dimensionality to the overall look.

This is a seriously chic bag that can go a lot of stylistic directions, and at $495, you might even be able to afford to take it somewhere.

I don’t know if you missed it, but we’ve written about the Mairie before. In fact, it was less writing and more just a condensed form of passionate lust, albeit in written format!

Now the luxury leather brand has reinvented the bag, and it is just as gorgeous as ever. In fact, the royal blue and tan leather body may actually be better than its original counterpart, instantly making this into one of those purses that make people go “wow.”

So, why do we like it so much? It can’t just be the looks, can it? Well, with that gorgeous contrast between the patent and the matte leather, the slouchy colorful body, and the sleek and super stylish central buckle, it could be. We could easily forgo all practicality for something this beautiful, for something this aesthetically lovely.

However, thankfully we don’t have to. You see, we love this inside too. It has a roomy zipped central compartment, and two big spaces either side of it. It offers space, and easy organization, all on top of that luxury leather trim and the jaw-dropping color. In essence, it neatly ticks all the boxes.

Unfortunately, as always Bally have to go and ruin it all with the price, an equally jaw-dropping $1,000. Still, if you love it like we do and have the dosh, what’s stopping you?!

Straw Studios abandons its typical straw for stronger cornhusk to create this Heidi tote.

Natural fibers are notoriously brittle, but cornhusk is marginally tougher than straw or raffia. It also doesn’t mind being wet, so the Heidi is a great option for the beach or pool. And finally, it’s incredibly sustainable. Honestly it makes me wonder why more designers don’t use this natural resource!

I really like the Heidi’s dark, woven finish, but I’m not sure about that paisley scarf, or the matching trim. Frankly it makes the Heidi look like something my grandmother might take to the markets. It’s old fashioned rather than retro, so it’d need to be teamed with the right outfit to avoid seeming dowdy. The scarf is easily removable, but without it this tote loses much of its personality.

The handles also don’t really grab me. Ring handles are never practical, but usually their looks make up for their functional shortcomings. But here that’s not really the case. The bamboo overlaps the tote awkwardly, appearing tacked on rather than a cohesive part of the design.

The Heidi had a solid base but I don’t think Straw Studios done enough with it. At $36 it’s a very cheap tote, but is that really enough?

Christian Louboutin is really rocking my world lately. I can’t get enough of his sleek, sophisticated styles. This Pigalle bag is such an amazing combination of uptown and rock ‘n’ roll that it’s got me all worked up.

The black leather on the Pigalle is ultra smooth and has a slight sheen, but it’s matte enough to contrast with the shininess of the edgy black spikes. The subtle red piping has a sexy, lingerie-like quality that is unmistakably Louboutin.

The elongated shape of the Pigalle is truly elegant, and is enhanced by the fluid lines of the sculpted flap front cover. The conical spike design follows the scalloped edge with dramatic flair. Even the interior of this bag has a perfectly balanced black leather and red satin design. Inside and out, the Pigalle is pure luxe.

Personally, I think that the Pigalle is a steal at any price, even the rather steep $795 tag that’s attached to it.

Stone Mountain’s made a handbag for the nine to fivers with the Working Girl.

Its pretty pink color might not seem very office appropriate, but I think the sedate styling and gentle hue of this purse would help most working girls get away with it. The color gives this fairly generic looking bucket bag some real personality, and helps make it appropriate for after-five cocktails or a restaurant dinner.

While it’s not a trend setter the Working Girl should be admired for its quality and practical design. The pebbled leather really is lovely, much lovelier than we’d expect to find on a $135 bag.

Its strap is also completely adjustable, so you can convert it from a shoulder bag to a commute-ready cross-body. The outer pocket is ideal for the items you need on hand, while the rest of your cargo will stay organized in the divided interior. It is on the small side though, especially considering its office application. You might be able to squeeze a new netbook inside, but older laptops simply won’t fit.

It’s not quite lust worthy, but this Working Girl represents real value for money.
