Michael Kors Unveils Fall/Winter Advertisements | Glamorous 70s Paparazzi Commercial

Posted on: Jul 22

Michael Kors Fall Advertisement

Michael Kors goes glamorous with its 70s inspired fall/winter 2011 advertising campaign.

Models Karmen Pedaru, Simon Nessman, and Taylor Fuchs are the stars hiding away in their limousine from the glare of the paparazzi lenses. They don’t seem terribly troubled by the intrusion, but I wouldn’t either if I were carrying that gorgeous silver snake clutch. I can’t imagine that Pedaru’s barely there dress will offer much protection against the notoriously changeable fall weather though. Thank goodness she’s got that lush feathery wrap on hand!

The models look amazing, and their clothes and accessories do too, just as they should. This is an advertising campaign built on fantasy after all. With so many fashion houses trying something different in recent commercials, it’s refreshing to see one that gets back to the reason that fashion is so alluring. Kors says he was inspired to create the image of the “world’s most famous couple arriving” something sensational. It’s aspirational, the classic commercial that makes us want to switch places with the models and live a little of their glamorous lives.

Are you a fan of Michael Kors retro glam commercial campaign, or would you preferred to see something more daring from the American designer?

Mary Frances Bonanza Doctor Bag | Embellished Beaded Western Purse

Posted on: Jul 22

Mary Frances Bonanza BagMary Frances shrinks down the familiar doctor bag and stamps her irrepressible style upon it with the Bonanza.

As its name suggests, this is a Western influenced concoction. It’s cleverly done, with layered beads around the sides creating the illusion of feathers while shimmery panels mimic snake scales. It’s delightfully over the top, but Mary Frances’ fans wouldn’t have it any other way! Personally I think this style is a lot more wearable than some of her creations though. It’s unashamedly flamboyant, but not as kitsch as many of the purses in her line.

It might look like your regular doctor bag, but it is much, much smaller. It’s teeny tiny, in fact. You’ll need to be a clever packer, and even then you’ll probably need to leave some of those items you regard as necessities at home. Its short handle will also become frustrating as the evening wears on, but that’s par for the course. After all, this isn’t a purse that people buy for its practicality, is it?

At $205 it’s a significant investment, but as the Bonanza doesn’t follow the trends at least it’ll never go out of style!

More Features of This Mary Frances Beaded Doctor Bag

  • Satiny lined interior
  • Zipper closure
  • A short handle with a 3 inch drop
  • Measures 5 x 7 x 3 inches
  • Made in The Phillipines

See By Chloe Rodas Crystal-Embellished Leather Bag | Tan Leather Clutch With Rhinestone Bow

Posted on: Jul 21

See By Chloe Rodas Crystal-Embellished Leather BagSee By Chloe is killing me, lately. I really don’t know what’s going on with the line, but it’s kind of upsetting me. This Rodas clutch is very close to being cool but misses the mark enough to be ugly.

I actually really love the tan leather on this clutch. It’s a really unusual color choice for evening, but it works really well. Plus, the gently weathered texture makes the bag a little more casual and cool. The asymmetrical grosgrain ribbon detail is a really nice touch, but the rhinestone bow is atrocious.

The funny thing is that it’s really not a bad idea, and the sparkles go well with the rest of the style, but the rhinestones are just too big. They just look cheesy and tacky and totally not in good taste. The flap front style is cool and easy to carry, but it’s not enough to distract from the terrible details.

At $395, this Rodas clutch would be a steal if it were more interesting, but any cost might be too high for this particular design.

Valentino Rosette Appliqued Leather Clutch | Stunning Black Floral Bag

Valentino Rosette Appliqued Leather Clutch

Valentino has had some considerable ups and downs since the man himself retired, but it seems to be normalizing. This rosette appliqued clutch might be one of the most beautiful bags I’ve ever seen, and I have seen a lot of bags.

The smooth black leather on this bag is delicious on its own, but it’s clearly not the focal point. The black appliqued rosettes have been beautifully tooled. They have such exquisite detail, and I love that they’re black. It gives the bag sort of a goth look that can go high glamour or really street, depending on the outfit.

The foldover pouch design of the bag is simple, but ideal. The minimal design showcases the appliques, and it’s practical, as well. It’s a little over-sized for a clutch, but there’s a sweet little shoulder strap that you can pull out if you need it. Frankly, I don’t like the look of the shoulder strap with the bag, but it might be necessary if you get tired of carrying it.

I won’t lie to you. This bag is expensive. At $1,995, it’s way more than a lot of people can afford. But it’s a collector’s item waiting to happen, and that makes the price seem really worthwhile.

  • 14″ x 9″ x 1” size
  • 15” strap drop
  • Fully lined

Stella McCartney Metallic Boucle Mini Bucket Bag | Striking Silver Eco-Friendly Bag

Posted on: Jul 21

Stella McCartney Metallic Boucle Mini Bucket BagAlthough Stella McCartney is a great apparel designer, I don’t always love her bags. I really respect her dedication to animal rights and the environment, but sometimes her eco-materials just don’t hold her styles very well. This seems to be changing, however, and this metallic boucle bag is a great example of how her style has evolved.

One of the problems I’ve always had with McCartney’s accessories is that they’re made of materials that just seem a little flimsy. This metallic boucle is a major improvement. It’s not only substantial, though, it’s also very beautiful.

A good bucket bag is hard to come by. The low structure style needs a supportive fabric, which the boucle definitely is. It’s keeps the shape of the bag, but also has a little give, so there’s just the right amount of slouch. I love the way the silver chain straps coordinate with the bag, and they’re (finally!) thick enough to be comfortable.

This bag isn’t a steal at $945, but I think it’s pretty reasonable for an eye-catching, but versatile style that’s also friendly to the earth.

  • 11″ x 8″ x 4″ size
  • 9″ strap drop
  • Fully lined
  • Designer-stamped silver hangtag

Storksak Emily Diaper Bag | Sophisticated Brown Leather Carry Tote

Posted on: Jul 21

Storksak Emily BagLet’s face it, it’s hard to feel glamorous when you’re wearing a mix of oatmeal and orange juice, you’ve got bags under your eyes, and you haven’t seen a shower in days. But such is the lot of a new mother. At least Storksak can help you feel a little more chic with Rebecca Gayheart’s new go to diaper bag, the Emily.

This is one of those special diaper bags that doesn’t look like a diaper bag. It’s made of leather for starters. That might not seem very practical when it’s around sticky fingers, but its dark brown color should hide any kid-inflicted marks. The buckles dress up the practical front pockets. I worried they’d be a bit fiddly for moms, but they’re actually all show. The pockets are instead kept secure with magnetic snaps.

Inside you’ll find all the perks that moms expect, including insulated pockets for baby bottles and an emergency changing pad. The Emily is large enough to hold everything moms and their little ones need on a day out, and its adjustable strap makes that bulk a bit more manageable.

$375 might seem like a lot to spend on a diaper bag, but this is the kind of handbag that you’ll use when the kids are grown. That makes it a much better investment than those cutesy diaper totes no one wants to carry!

More Features of This Storksak Leather Diaper Bag

  • Zip top closure
  • Nylon lined interior
  • An adjustable strap with a 15 to 27 inch drop
  • Measures 10 x 16 x 5.5 inches
  • Made in China

Bag Borrow or Steal is Back | Designer Handbag Website Dumps Avelle

Posted on: Jul 21

Bag Borrow or Steal LogoOnline designer handbag library Bag Borrow or Steal might have changed its name to Avelle a few years ago, but I never really got the hang of the new moniker. Like so many of its loyal fans, I simply continued to call the site by its original title. Avelle was just so hoity toity, and no one ever knew the site I was referring to unless I explained. Thankfully the website’s creators have finally realized this dilemma, and returned to the tried and true. And not a moment too soon!

Bag Borrow or Steal chief executive officer Russ Blain said his company felt it had outgrown its name, but it recently realized that “fashionistas and customers never stopped calling us Bag Borrow or Steal.” That inspired the firm to revert to the original title.

Part of me wonders why Bag Borrow or Steal didn’t do it sooner, but the announcement does coincide nicely with news that the website has just secured $4 million worth of funding. This cash windfall will help the site buy more of the luxury designer handbags that its clients rent, or rent-to-own.

It never really went away, but are you happy to see the return of Bag Borrow or Steal?

The SAK Heart Cross-Body | Blue Woven Polypropylene Handbag

Posted on: Jul 21

The Sak Heart Cross-BodySome girls are too guarded to wear their heart on their sleeve, but they can wear it across their body with this cute heart shaped purse from The SAK.

This woven purse looks like it’s made of wool but it’s actually crafted from polypropylene, a durable polymer often used to create ropes, carpets, and other tough textiles. The material is a clever choice, as it helps the heart purse keep its distinctive shape and ensures that blue color stays true. It’s also very easy to keep clean; just attack any stains with a damp rag and a mild detergent!

Traditionalists may prefer the red version, but I’ve warmed to this more unexpected shade. Perhaps I can just see the potential for pairing it with jeans! Whichever color you choose you’ll likely enjoy the way the hue contrasts with the homely white cross stitch accents.

This purse isn’t very large, and its shape its shape is so unusual, that I really didn’t expect much from it. A pair of open pouches and a zippered pocket would almost be expected in a larger day bag, but here I feel like we’ve been pampered. All these organizational aids work with the cross-body strap to make this heart purse much more practical than it looks.

This purse admittedly looks a bit homespun, like the kind of thing any crafty girl could knock up on an afternoon in. However, at just $34 I don’t think it’s worth getting out the knitting needles!

More Features of This The SAK Woven Cross-Body

  • Silver-toned hardware
  • Zip top closure
  • Fully lined interior
  • Measures 6.25 x 8.5 x 2.25 inches

Quirky Jump From Paper Handbags | Comic Book Bags From Taiwan

Posted on: Jul 21

Jump From Paper BagTaiwanese designers Lin Su and Rika Lin create handbags that look just like they’ve jumped from the pages of a comic book. The unusual purses from their line Jump From Paper appear like two-dimensional, paper thin accessories, but they actually feature spacious interiors!

The designers were inspired to create the collection on seeing a two-dimensional window display promoting another fashion brand. This was merely a marketing tool, but it planted a seed in the Taiwanese pair. Why couldn’t this work in the real world?

Each one is made from canvas, a material so durable that we can forgive its lack of luxury. It’s also a blank slate for those bold designs, which are loosely based on popular handbag styles. You wouldn’t know it to look at them, but the Jump From Paper bags are so big you can easily fit iPads or laptops and school books inside them.

Jump From Paper bags are a bit gimmicky, but they’re also very original. And who said that fashion always has to take itself so seriously?

Jump From Paper bags are available from a range of retailers in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Australia. If you’re not located anywhere near Asia or the land Down Under you can order one via e-mail through the Jump From Paper website.

Harajuku Lovers Cherry Bomb Cosmetics Purse | Cute Japanese School Girls Make-Up Case

Posted on: Jul 21

Harajuku Lovers Cherry Bomb Cosmetics PurseThe cute doodles that adorn the accessories from Harajuku Lovers are adorable, but they also make the line’s purses unwearable once you hit a certain age. But the label may have created the answer for all its adult fans with the Cherry Bomb Cosmetics Case.

After all, a cosmetics purse spends most of its life inside a larger handbag. That can be as chic as you like; no one need know you’re carrying such a cutesy case inside it! And it is very cute, with its Japanese schoolgirls and their sketched professions of love for Gavin Rossdale, the husband of the label’s creator Gwen Stefani.

I hope you’re not expecting much inside this purse though, because its interior is as simple as its outsides. There are no pockets or organizational aids at all, so we’re left to do the hard stuff ourselves. The fabric lining also isn’t very practical, as it’ll show stains quickly. A plastic lining may not have felt as luxurious, but it would have been much more user-friendly.

This purse is what it is, another fun printed accessory from Harajuku Lovers that does what it says on the tin. You’ll find cheaper cosmetics purses for $28, but that price isn’t bad for a Harajuku Lovers accessory.

  • Made of polyester
  • Top zip closure
  • Measures 2.2 x 8.2 x 6 inches
