DKNY is up and down and all over the place this season. I’ve been disappointed with its offerings lately, but this great fold-over bag is beginning to change my mind. It’s perfectly clean and elegant, not to mention reasonably priced.

The quilted black nylon fabric isn’t exactly extraordinary, but it doesn’t really need to be. It does the job it’s meant to, and it looks great doing it. I’ve seen a lot of really complicated quilting, but I’m glad it kept this design simple. It really reinforces the simplicity of the overall design.

Nothing could be less complicated than this design, actually. It’s just a simple square pouch with a slim leather strap. But it’s proportioned well and the interior has a small zipped pocket to keep your stuff organized, even if the bag won’t fit much of it.

$145 is a great price for almost any bag, but it’s especially good for one that’s style won’t pass with the seasons.

What is going on with the See By Chloe line? I used to watch it with such interest, but lately all its designs seem overpriced and under-interesting. Unfortunately, this new wool version of the Joy Rider shoulder bag is more of the same.

I sometimes dig knit bags. They have a crafty, DIY look to them that can be really appealing. There’s nothing particularly interesting about this wool blend knit, however. It just looks sweater-y.

The shape of the Joy Rider tote is fine. Not really bad, but not really great, either. The way to make a simple bag interesting is to use interesting materials, which Chloe clearly hasn’t done here. The bag doesn’t just look sweater-y; it looks like an actual sweater, only a not so cool one with a tacky stuffed sheep hanging from the side. Ick.

This bag is $375. Do I even need to comment on that? It’s a terrible price for a terribly boring design.

Marc by Marc Jacobs tends to be the youthful, more rebellious little sister to the designer’s signature line. But with the Bianca clutch, the diffusion collection shows it too has a sophisticated side.

The Bianca is a really elegant creature, with its classic pebbled leather body and chic envelope flap design. It’s crisp and clean, with the only decoration coming from the same golden clasp we admired on the Textured Leather Hobo. I loved it then, and I love it even more against this smaller canvas.

The Bianca might be part of Marc Jacobs’ more affordable range, but he hasn’t skimped on the materials. Its buttery Italian leather body is matched by a pure cotton twill lining. This space is luxuriously large by clutch standards, but its secure zip pocket makes the space more manageable.

The only thing this clutch is missing is a shoulder strap, but I don’t think that’s any great loss. While it’s on the large side, it’s so slender that it should be easy to handle. And something tells me it’d look much more alluring in the crook of your arm than dangling from your shoulder.

At $298 this Bianca clutch is on the expensive side, but its timeless style and high-quality materials would make it a great investment piece for classic beauties.

Versetta has added stylish iPad handbags to its range of sophisticated fashion accessories. The Illinois brand has created two iPad collections, and following their success there’s one more on the way.

The Prima and Affari bags are made from high quality leatherette. They have an inner frame and protective flap to hold both models of the tablet securely in place. With the flap raised, fashionistas can operate their iPad, including all controls and ports, without removing it from their bag. Technology is the focus, but the collection of pockets inside ensure these handbags are truly functional.

The Prima collection is a modern range, with poppy colors including pink, turquoise, and yellow. The Affari bags are the Prima’s more classic cousins, with their conservative neutral color palette and timeless designs.

The new Vacanza handbags will join their tech-savvy sisters on the Versetta website in September. Personally I think that $189 for the Prima bags, and between $189 and $229 for the Affari ones is too expensive. We’ve seen many real leather accessories at this price after all. Goodness knows how much we’ll pay for the new Vacanza purses! But if you’ve been searching for an iPad bag that’s more fashion forward than the average, you might still be tempted.

Once we’ve gorged ourselves on ice-cream and cried through boxes of tissues, most of us are only too happy to move on from our exes. But with her cheekily named The Ex wristlet, Rebecca Minkoff’s created one she hopes we’ll want to keep around.

This is a modern wristlet, with edgy zippered accents and poppy leather in a color Rebecca Minkoff calls “Salmon Rose.” I wish those zippers had pockets underneath, but at least they work on an aesthetic level. Without them this simply shaped wristlet would have been a bit boring, so they’re really needed to pep things up.

Rebecca Minkoff might not make the best use of The Ex’s dimensions, but at least the interior is a decent size. It’ll hold the essentials, including a smart phone, lipstick, and credit card holder, but you may struggle to squeeze in much more than that. It’s made for stepping out for coffee or a quick café meal rather than spending a whole day out.

I also imagine The Ex would come in handy in the evenings. While it’s not showy enough to suit black tie events, that wrist strap would come in handy when you’re hitting the clubs. That loop is also removable for a clean, clutch look.

Frankly this Ex is much more useful than the average ex, and at $95 it’ll cost you less than that last mooching man you were with!

FAB|Starpoint is preparing to launch a brand new range of youthful backpacks and satchels, just in time for the new school year. The latest endeavor for the company behind the cutesy Hello Kitty brand and sophisticated Carlos Falchi is Mojo, a range aimed squarely at the teenage market.

FAB president and chief executive officer Steve Russo said that to date, the company has produced youth products through various licensing agreements. Mojo is the next logical step for the business, as it allows FAB to utilize its own creative talents for a range of exciting, youth targeted accessories.

The Mojo logo will sit alongside a variety of designs, including the limited edition skull patterned Mr. Peterson backpack pictured, colorful retro patterned Pop Prints, and street art printed StayLoud bags.

They’re made from a range of cheap and cheerful materials, including canvas, nylon, and polyester. Those materials may not impress luxury lovers, but they keep these school bags priced affordably between $30 and $70. And let’s remember that students are so hard on their backpacks, they never last more than a school year or two anyway!

The range of Mojo backpacks and satchels is currently available to pre-order through the Mojo Backpacks website, ahead of their official release.

Big Buddha seems influenced by the world’s great musical genres with this Penny Lane Bucket. Unfortunately though, this bag can’t decide whether it’s a hippie folk singer or a rock star.

From the top to the center it’s all rock and roll, with its black synthetic, rebellious slouch, and heavy metal. But it all goes awry when somewhere around the middle, Big Buddha covers the bag with bohemian fringing.

These long strands of synthetic are finished off with gypsy-like rings. That unique take on fringing might not have been so bad on another bag, but it seems to come out of the blue here. I’ve seen designers take disparate elements and somehow make them work, but the Penny Lane just comes off as clumsy.

I’m not a great fan of the Penny Lane’s look, but Big Buddha never lets us down where it counts. The drawstring closure isn’t the most effective way to keep your cargo safe, but the magnetic clasp underneath gives additional peace of mind. The interior is spacious and well appointed, with a zippered pocket and pair of open slips.

The flat base helps to counteract the Penny Lane’s slouchy profile. At least it won’t become a puddle of synthetic when we set it down. The chain woven strap is very fashionable but probably not so comfortable, so I’m glad we also get a longer cross-body strap for our busiest days. Both straps are removable to give the bag a clean look, no matter which way you’re carrying it.

I don’t think this is Big Buddha’s best looking bag, but at least its price is right. At $89.95, the Penny Lane is an affordable and individual way to schlep your stuff.

I really love where Burberry has been taking its designs lately. It’s added a whole lot of street style to its usually traditional aesthetic, and the effects are awesome. This cotton tote is the perfect balance of preppy and edgy.

Although white cotton may not be the most practical choice for an everyday bag due to its dirt attracting tendencies, all the black leather trim on this bag will be an excellent distraction. The contrast is graphic and dramatic, without being showy or unwearable.

The shape of this bag is relatively simple, but the details are complex and interesting. The simple rectangular style gets pulled in interesting directions by all the strap additions, and the straps themselves are beautiful and have just the right amount of buckles. The straps, however, are a little odd. Honestly, they just seem a little short for a bag of this size, but luckily there’s a shoulder strap.

I love the look of this bag. $1,395 seems a bit expensive for cotton, but all the leather trim makes it seem a bit more reasonable.
