Mulberry’s business is going from strength to strength, and when it releases handbags as stylish as the Evelina it’s not hard to see why.

This hobo strips away the bohemian image from the handbag style, leaving clean, cool lines in the place of a slouchy silhouette. This more structured look ensures the Evelina is more elegant than other purses of this ilk, the kind of accessory you’d take to a swanky restaurant or a board meeting rather than an all-day music festival.

I also appreciate the color, which Mulberry calls summer khaki. When I think khaki I imagine camouflage and army fatigues, but this hue is much more feminine. It’s less green and more taupe with pink undertones. You might call it nude, but it’s more intriguing than shades with that name tend to be.

The Evelina’s spacious main compartment is every bit as luxurious as we expect to find in a Mulberry bag. The signature printed lining is thick and lush, and the array of pockets just what we need to keep our everyday items in order. I imagine the carry strap would be a bit awkward to use if the Evelina was full to the brim, but Mulberry’s also added an attachable shoulder strap to help us out.

At $1250 it’s on the expensive side, but it’s also not exorbitant for a luxury handbag. I’d hesitate if it were more fashion forward, but its more timeless look makes it a great investment in several seasons of style.

More and more often we’re seeing high end labels creating more attainable canvas accessories. It’s a trend that helps girls on a budget attain a piece of their favorite label, but not one that offers us real value for money. This Palazzo Canvas Tote from Moschino is yet another overpriced canvas accessory.

It’s not all bad. The simple sketch of the grand Love Moschino manor is quite charming, especially with the pop of orange at its door. I also love the way Moschino has picked up the orange hue with the patent leather base. This hardy material is a smart choice, as it should last longer than canvas. However it’s a shame Moschino hasn’t protected it with any metal feet.

The spacious interior is better organized than your average canvas tote compartment, with a zippered envelope running down the center. There are also practical pockets in the side wall, which are trimmed with more patent leather to help them last.

While the splashes of leather help to justify the costs, it’s a shame that they’re hidden away. On the surface this just looks like so many canvas totes, and I think that’s too ordinary to pay $210 for, don’t you?

Months have gone by since the release of Thursday Friday’s Chanel style Together Totes, and still there’s no sign of a lawsuit. It seems that’s made the company a bit bolder, because now it’s created a new Together Tote range emblazoned with the image of a Balenciaga bag.

The new Moto collection includes small pouches called Here Bags, mid-sized Together Totes, and the large Super Together handbags. Each one features the iconic image of Balenciaga’s Moto bag against a natural canvas background. A range of colors are available, with prices starting at $35 and topping $95. That makes them a great deal cheaper than the genuine articles!

I fully expected Chanel to sue Thursday Friday over the 2.55 Flap Bag style totes, just as Hermes did when the label released bags bearing the image of the Birkin. However, perhaps the budget fashion house is getting smarter. The Chanel style tote didn’t feature the interlocking C clasp or the famed fashion house’s logo, so perhaps it stopped just short of truly infringing copyright. In the same way the new Moto totes don’t have any Balenciaga branding, although the hardware and styling is pretty unmistakable.

There are fashion houses that turn our heads with modern and luxurious accessories season after season. And then there are the labels like Moonsus, who get the job done with little flair or fanfare. The Elite Laptop Tote is another low-key example of Moonsus’ commitment to practicality.

The Elite isn’t completely without finesse. Its chocolate brown patent leather finish looks especially rich, and its braided handles and accents are a beautiful way to set off the tote’s smooth surface. But its appeal goes beyond that polished finish.

Its main compartment is padded so you can transport a 17-inch notebook or tablet safely and securely. This generously sized section is complemented by zippered pockets in the front and back and smaller compartments for sunglasses and cell phones. There’s also a pen holder and even a clip for keys.

This Elite laptop bag is a great feminine alternative to a briefcase, and it’d look much smarter at your favorite bar after five. At around $545 it’s probably too expensive for a bag that looks so ordinary, but its superior materials and clever design help to justify that slightly too high cost.

Luggage leader Tumi has launched new Tiger Eye II travel bags and Alpha accessories collections, just in time for spring getaways.

The extensive range features a range of bags including a slender international carry-on case, a T-Pass Business Class Briefcase, a messenger bag with a padded iPad compartment, a north-south style cross-body bag, and a crossover with a flap-over zip closure. Each handbag is crafted from Tumi’s tough ballistic nylon and lined with hardy chino jacquard fabric.

The predominant brown color is a bit pedestrian for my tastes, but I really like the red-toothed zippers and details that accent the travel cases. A Tumi spokesperson said the styling was intended to reflect “the imagery of strength, protection and beauty” associated with the Tiger Eye concept.

These handbags and suitcases are complemented by Tumi’s new Alpha accessories. These include a gusseted case for cards and ID, a reversible alpha ballistic belt, a global coin wallet, a larger zip-around travel wallet, and a global center flip ID passcase. They’ve got the same color scheme we saw in the Tiger Eye II line, so the travel items work really well together. They won’t inspire a lot of envy in the airport terminal, but they should make your travels a lot smoother.

Miu Miu shows how the wrong print can break an otherwise beautiful clutch with this Star Print Watersnake Purse.

I have to wonder what the folks at Miu Miu were smoking when they came up with this design. Who is responsible for taking stunning taupe watersnake skin and covering it in ugly black star shapes? I’ll bet that poor serpent that gave his life to create it is turning in his grave right now.

The fractured star print is interesting, and on another purse I might even appreciate it. I can picture it on a simple canvas bag, but not on something so esteemed as snakeskin. It’s already got a pattern, those beautiful natural scales, and it doesn’t need anything else muddying it.

The simple interior is a blessed relief. The sumptuous gray satin lining and array of practical pockets is just what I’d hoped for. It’s even a decent size, even if it is on the slender side. It’ll require some careful packing, but it should hold everything you really need when you step out.

Considering its high quality materials, Miu Miu has every right to charge $1250 for this bag. However we’ve also got every right to turn our noses up at it.

If MCM’s Sweet Visetos Valentine’s Day collection was a little too obvious for your tastes, then Proenza Schouler’s dreamy seasonal offering may be more your speed. The high end label has released a small capsule collection of red handbags to mark the most romantic day of the year.

The limited edition line features a small red leather PS1 wallet, an iguana version of the classic PS11 shoulder bag and leather and iguana versions of the large PS1 chain clutch. We’ve seen all these purses from Proenza Schouler before, but the new materials are helping me appreciate the designs all over again. The iguana lizard skin is particularly enticing, don’t you think?

You’ll need someone very smitten in your life if you hope to receive these babies on February 14 though. The small PS1 wallet costs $165, the large leather PS1 is priced at $785, the lizard alternative is $1925, and the lizard PS11 clocks in at a whopping $6825. That’s an awful lot of money to spend on a Hallmark holiday!

Miquelrius offers us a more luxurious handbag than usual with this Sweet Leather hobo.

While most Miquelrius bags are made from canvas, this one’s crafted from leather, or sweet leather as Miquelrius tells us. I’m not sure whether it’s quite as delicious as that description implies, but it’s a rich change of pace for the brand.

Miquelrius might be working with posher materials, but it hasn’t changed its creative vision too much though. The details are pure Miquelrius, from its purple finish to the distinctive Jordi Labanda illustration. As the picture is debossed rather than painted in, it’s much subtler than it could have been, but it’s still playful enough to appeal to Miquelrius fans.

That royal purple hue is another classic Miquelrius touch. More color options might have widened the Sweet Leather hobo’s appeal, but this label knows its target market. While it won’t impress serious fashion fans, tweens and teens will feel all grown up carrying this hobo.

That graduation to leather of course sees the Sweet Leather costing significantly more than most Miquelrius handbags. However at $290 it’s still not unreasonable for a purse made from such quality materials.

Bally has created a special Taisten man bag exclusively for Nuance-Watson stores in Hong Kong.

The Taisten bag is designed with the iconic red and white racing stripe of Bally’s famous Trainspotting Light theme. Its cross-body style is perfect for busy city dwellers and jet-setters alike, and its jacquard nylon body should withstand some serious punishment. Its practical design features an adjustable shoulder strap, an interior technology pocket, and a secure zip closure.

It was designed as a men’s line but its no fuss finish is likely to appeal to some female fashion fans. I don’t really think it’s anything special, but its exclusivity should help it sell. No price has been announced at this point, but choosing jacquard nylon rather than leather should help keep the costs down to a reasonable level. Unless Bally decides to capitalize on that rarity of course! And with the mad shopping rush of Chinese New Year rapidly approaching, perhaps Bally could get away with charging a little extra!

Michael Kors shows us a wallet can be more than simply a vessel for holding cash with this Tonne Continental Purse.

The Tonne Continental really is an exercise in restraint. A dash of Ayers snakeskin is all it needs to go from fairly average to extraordinary. Its off-white leather and clean lines are lovely, but it’s that silver-capped snake bar that really makes it beautiful.

It’s not really a purse for shopaholics though. The credit card slots we take for granted in modern wallets are notably absent, although there is a zippered pocket for change and two open compartments for bills. Perhaps it’ll encourage us to shop smarter and use cash rather than credit!

At $395 the Tonne Continental is expensive for a wallet, but this is a cut above the average. For that price is seems a shame to hide it away inside a larger tote. Treat it well and keep that pale leather away from dirt and grime and this is the kind of purse you can pass through the generations.
