The House of Roger Vivier transforms their trademark pilgrim buckle on this sophisticated and luxurious doctor’s bag. And instead of becoming an overblown logo, it becomes a simple rectangular frame on the sides of the bag.

The Roger Vivier Doctor Frame Bag is both trendy and timeless. The deep purple shade is positively regal, and softens up the structured shape. And the frame top is not just beautiful, but also utilitarian, allowing you to see deeply into the bag. I love the way Vivier combines the classic ladylike doctor’s bag shape with the punchy color and python.

Phillip Lim is known for producing minimalist objects with subtle and discrete charms, and the Tally tote certainly won’t disappoint his biggest fans. Although at 15″ x 18.5″, the bag is big enough to be used as an overnighter, its generous size doesn’t keep it from fitting right in with the rest of Lim’s sleek, pared-down desgns.

The bag is extremely convertible, with dual rolled leather handles large enough to wear over the shoulder, and an adjustable or removable shoulder strap, which could be slung across the body for days when you have packed it full. The flat, structured base gives a little shape to the roomy main compartment.

To be honest, the large size of the Tally works both for and against it. The size makes it large enough to be a fabulous bag for toting around more than the average amount of daily essentials and a great weekend bag for a super light packer. But, the size means that the bag is super slouchy, and not really able to stand up on its own, so to speak.

As with most of Lim’s designs, the prize is in the details. The subtle stitch pattern on the sides adds a luxurious touch, and the black hardware plaques on the handles are just shiny enough to attract the attention of eagle-eyed aficionados. But don’t worry; even if there’s no showy nameplate, the sleek quality and attention to detail shine through, making the Tally tote an extremely covetable accessory.

Prada has a new look for its spring/summer 2009 campaign. Colors are out, passed over for the sophisticated look of neutrals.

The Italian fashion houses handbags, shoes, and outfits are shown off by a collection of beautiful blond mannequins. Playing the role of the clothes horses we see Nimue Smit, Giedre Dukauskaite, Sigrid Agren, Toni Garrn, Katrin Thormann, Viktoriya Sasonkina, and Ymre Stiekema. How they ever found seven gorgeous girls who look so similar I’ll never know. Their dewy skin and polished chignon hairstyles certainly add refined glamour to this campaign.

Prada say the advertising campaign was inspired by “ancient stone bas-reliefs and a desire to return to basic emotional and physical dimensions in classical art and early culture.“

That’s a lot to get your head around, and those ancient influences probably don’t matter to most of us anyway. Here on the precipice of 2009, it’s just a beautiful commercial to admire.
