Stop sniggering. I know what you’re thinking. No luxury handbag ever deserves to have such an undignified name as the Pise Sac. Who knows what Lanvin was thinking when they saddled this shoulder bag with such an unfortunate moniker. The title might not inspire you with confidence, but its fun and functional design could just win you over.

The Pise Sac is made from high quality materials. This high gloss patent looks ready to party, while the reserved grained leather is a better option for the office. A belt circles around the center of the purse, cinching it in for a bow-like appearance. This motif is continued with a crossgrain ribbon woven through the chain strap and tied in a bow. As if this wasn’t eye catching enough, a signature medallion hangs from the handle. This look may be too fussy for many, but girly girls will lap it up.

The polished turnlock closure adds style and security. Open it up to reveal the two zippered pockets hidden underneath. The main compartment is lined with Lanvin printed fabric to withstand everyday wear and tear. It’s medium-sized: large enough for everything you need to get through the day but not big enough to overwhelm.

There’s a lot to love about the Pise Sac bag, but I’m not so impressed with the price. At around $2, 000 it simply costs more than many of us can afford to spend on a patent purse.

These days Lindsay Lohan is spending less time in front of the cameras, preferring to hang out with gal pal Samantha Ronson and promote her 6126 leggings. But she is back in superstar mode as the face of the Fornarina spring/summer ’09 advertising campaign.

I love the way the feminine navy blue blouse complements the slouchy blue and gold oversized clutch. Paired with some faded blue jeans, these statement pieces can really shine in the spotlight.

Lindsay may have fallen out of favor in recent years but these shots show she’s still got star quality.

Here is a simple yet fashionable handbag; the Melrose Tote from Alexander McQueen.  Mercifully McQueen has spared us the goth look of some of his other skull-clad designs and designed a purse with a great shape and heaps of storage space.

The eye-catching grass green color is a “must-have” color this spring, and combined with the gold-tone hardware they both contrast and compliment each other beautifully. I love the additional punch of color with the hot pink cotton lining as well as the turn-lock closure on the front fold-over flap.

The Melrose measures an ample 16.5 x 15 x 6 and is priced at $1435. It’s almost $500 more than today’s earlier recommendation, but for those of you that want a simple bag with just a little more umph to it the additional cost will prove to be well worth the expenditure in the long run.

The only possible drawback I see with the handle is that the braid detail is right where the bag will sit on your shoulder, and sometimes when you weigh down a bag, heavily textured handles dig right into your skin where the bag needs to carry the most weight.

While the Lotus has all the trends in check, the metallic makes it a good choice to take you from winter to spring. The soft pewter color is sure not to clash with your jewelry, and will add a layer of sparkle to your everyday wardrobe.

From the television screen to the red carpet, plenty of stars have fallen in love with the Lucis clutch from Kara Ross. Nico Reilly carried the natural python purse on Lipstick Jungle, while Lake Bell rocked the black anaconda clutch at the Downtown Film Festival.

The front flap design is a classic, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring. The tab closure features exotic leather, while the shiny gunmetal hardware is inlaid with faceted rock crystal. A magnetic seal under the tab offers security without disturbing the clutch’s elegant good looks.

A large pocket in front of the main compartment offers more bang for your buck. The main section is luxuriously lined with suede and fitted with a zippered pocket on the back wall. Two slot lock tabs underneath the main flap help to hold the detachable patent leather strap. This shoulder strap is still a little skinny, but it’s a lot more comfortable than those clutch chain straps we’re used to!

The Lucis is available in a range of vibrant exotic leathers, including lizard, python, and alligator. All those colored luxury leathers make some of the clutches look a little busy. Personally I can’t resist the understated charms of this white ostrich and patent leather purse. If only I had a spare $1600!

It seems that celebrities have embraced the hip, funky style of See by Chloe. The spin-off of famous designer house Chloe, See by Chloe is aimed at a younger crowd and maintains a more casual design sensibility overall than its parent company. Their handbags have been spotted on many youthful celebrity shoulders including the uber-stylish gals of Gossip Girl Blake Lively and Leighton Meester as well as new mom Jessica Alba. 

The bag most often seen on these young stars is the Daytripper, a See by Chloe original that is quickly gaining popularity due to its multiple celeb sightings. The ultra large purse, available in satchel or clutch sizes, has most recently been released in a bright orange with light brown trim.

The apricot-colored leather is ideal for the upcoming spring season and, though not a neutral, will probably surprise you with its versatility. However, if you find yourself turned off by the tangerine tone, this See by Chloe also comes in black, blue, and red.

The slouchy Daytripper bag features tons of storage for longs days out including several exterior pockets. On the outside, two zippered pockets and two slip pockets with magnetic closure make this purse ideal for shopping trips and maybe even for overnight stays if you pack lightly.

One of the details that shows See by Chloe’s funkier style is the mix of metals on the front zippers. Though not overly obvious until closer inspection, the gold and bronze-colored teeth on these closures are an unusual touch that wouldn’t be seen on a traditional Chloe bag like the Heloise. For another interesting touch, the zippers close with a linked three-piece zipper pull with each piece bearing one of the words of the brand. The See by Chloe Daytripper shoulder bag retails for $750.

As usual, Marc Jacobs is leading the pack when it comes to current trends. He basically invented the oversized clutch, and his Marc by Marc Jacobs label consistently produces some of the most coveted clutches around. The Dr. Q Magazine Clutch is certainly no exception. Ever since its 2008 debut, it has caused a sensation with celebrities like Lauren Conrad, and on famous street fashion blogs like The Satorialist.

What I love about this bag is that it satisfies a trend in a thoroughly modern, streamlined way. It doesn’t have many bells or whistles, but, with its chic straight-forward design, it doesn’t need any. 

The elegant foldover style looks soft and makes the clutch versatile, sizewise. In total, it measures 14″ x 10″ x 2″, and while it doesn’t make sense to fill it to the top (that would kind of defeat the purpose of the foldover), you could basically put as much or as little in the clutch as you like, and it would still look cool.

The foldover flap top opens to the interior compartment with a leather-trimmed zip pocket, and there is an additional long zipped pocket underneath the flap. The polished silver metal hardware is a great contrast to the supple black leather, and the large silver and black logo plate isn’t too distracting.

The Dr. Q Magazine clutch is an elegant bag for carrying a few things by day, and would still work with more formal evening wear. This is a super hip bag with lines simple enough to seduce even a few stalwart tradtionalists.
