The Coach Hamptons collection has been a favorite of many for a while. Most of us have seen at least one photo of a celebrity carrying one of these popular handbags. The first that comes to mind for me is this gray Hamptons Vintage Hobo I’ve seen in numerous pictures of Jennifer Garner. Well, the actress has good taste because the bag is gorgeous and, if you’re lucky enough to own one, worth carrying around as often as possible.

The dark gray leather and overall shape have a classic quality that fits well with the purse’s name. I can almost imagine running across something like it in one of my beloved vintage shops. Made from vintage leather, this hobo isn’t far off.

The front flap pocket with turnlock closure is reminiscent of a Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock, but the Hamptons Vintage has unique features all its own. The exterior pocket has the feel of the saddle bag style made popular in the 70s. The leather tassels hanging from the zippers add to the look. I love the detailed stitching that catches the eye and frames the front of the bag.

Maybe one of the reasons mother-of-two Jennifer Garner is so fond of this Coach bag is the ample amount of storage it offers. Besides the exterior flap and zippered compartments, this large hobo also houses a back pocket and several interior pockets.

I don’t know any woman who couldn’t fill up a bag this size in less than a minute. The rolled leather strap will help you carry with ease everything you’ll fit in this Hamptons Vintage handbag. Look for the signature coach logo embossed on the front and engraved on the hanging tag to verify authenticity.

For many women, Chloe is the go-to designer for the latest in “It” bags that break the mold when it comes to quality and design. You could say that about the Silverado Doctor Bag, but the truth is that it isn’t just a passing “It” bag; its classic design has dominated the market for almost four years, and yet lust for the Silverado shows little sign of abating.

It is, and was, a bag ahead of its time. Its 11.5″ x 17.5″ x 7″ size is oversized enough to fit the trend and every single thing I can think of to bring with me on a day out inside of it. The brown leather is dark, distressed, and looks like a saddle that has been well-oiled for years.

I love the combination of the classic doctor bag shape with all the western details. The whipstiching on the handle and side pockets is the bag’s trademark, and the large antiqued gold hardware adds that little bit of country that makes the Silverado special.

The bag is an easy in and out affair, with a long top zipper and extended side tabs. The tab and stud detail at the base and handle attachments give the Silverado interesting visual details without taking away from the overall simple structural shape. Chloe has definitely struck a delicate balance with this one, and I can’t imagine the woman that wouldn’t love toting this with her favorite jeans and a tee plus, I don’t know, maybe even cowboy boots?

Sarah Michelle Gellar has a fantastic eye for designer bags. She was recently spotted at an airport with her charming husband sporting one of the most fantastic handbags ever made. Of course I’m referring to the Balenciaga Work bag.

This fabulous carry-all is made from the yummiest lambskin leather (it is impossible to find leather as good as what you get with Balenciaga bags), and at 18 x 12 x 6 is roomy enough to use as an everyday bag or travel tote.

The Work doesn’t come with a detachable shoulder strap like its’ smaller sisters the City and First (a pity in my opinion), but its’ surprisingly lightweight unless you pile in the junk like I do. If you’re on the thin side, you’ll certainly be able to sport this bag on the shoulder.

Unfortunately, I was never able to get the handles over my chubby upper arms. I have since parted with my beloved Work in lilac, and I miss her terribly. This bag is still a wonderful investment if only for the fact that it’ll last forever. You can buye Sarah’s sky blue version (I have the City in this color) or choose from eight other options including the “must-have” color for this spring – navy.

Givenchy has enlisted star fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Matadin Vinoodh for its spring/summer 2009 advertising campaign.

Lara Stone and Ana Claudia Michels look incredibly awkward in this shot, thanks to those terrible shoulder pads and their blank expressions. They might be gorgeous girls, but Lara and Ana Claudia are completely upstaged by the beauty of that oversized satchel bag. The rich textured finish is to die for, and that long shoulder strap offers some added practicality. I just hope it’s not as heavy as Lara makes it look. Perhaps the Dutch model could lift it a little easier if she just had a decent feed!

This luscious purse is part of Givenchy new collection created by Riccardo Tisci. The range follows what the creative director calls a “Western bondage” theme. It has a distinctly Western vibe, but there’s a splash of Parisian glamour.

The ad campaign also features exotic beauty Lakshmi Menon and smoldering brunette Mariacarla Boscono.

I love the shape of a hobo. The slouchiness is perfect for a casual chic look, and the rounded edges create an unstructured, bohemian-style shape. With so many options from which to choose, however, hobo handbag shopping can sometimes be overwhelming. Leave it to classic brands like Miu Miu to simplify the process with a minimalistic design that can’t go wrong.

The Vitello Vintage handbag is one of those rare hobos that is great for an informal outfit yet could transition to an accessory for slightly dressier events as well. This type of bag is rarely appropriate for a formal event, but it would look fabulous with a skirt and heels for going out.

The old phobia mixing blacks and blues is out the window, but some women still have a hard time breaking the habit. The dark navy leather on this Miu Miu, however, is such a dark tone that it almost appears black, which makes it an extremely functional piece for a wardrobe. The neutral color will complement a multitude of outfits.

While I am a big fan of all things Yves Saint Laurent, I can’t say I’m a fan of the Muse Two Satchel. Kim Kardashian (pictured above) with her black patent leather version of the Muse Two perfectly illustrates why design is of utmost importance when selecting a handbag. While the classic shape of the Muse Two is appealing, the unfortunate placement of the top handle was not properly thought out.

The result is a slouchy, puckered look which was, I guarantee, not the intended effect. I expect much more from a $2000 bag. This might not seem important to most of you out there, but for sticklers for detail like me it’s a major pet peeve.

If you’re interested in achieving the same look with well-placed handles and in a very flattering color to boot, be sure to look into the Mulberry Bayswater Bag. It’s just as chic and a $1000 less than the Muse Two; there’s some selling on eBay for around $500.

This is not the Fendi bag for the logo-obsessed. Of course, the logo is there, prominently even. But, the To You convertible bag is more than a vehicle for upside down F’s. It is one of the most unusual and contested bags to come out over the past few years. Some people love it, and some people hate it, but it rarely induces indecision.

The bag itself is composed of gorgeously rich brown snakeskin, in a pleated pouch shape that is both retro-inspired and contemporary. The chain strap adds another layer of edgy 80’s appeal.

As a satchel, the bag is carried by the strap, and the large rectangular logo in tonal snakeskin is unfurled. I don’t, personally, like the bag much this way. The upper-case Fendi is just too prominent for my taste, but I know that a lot of women love their logos to be big and bold. I have to say, though, that for a logo of its size the brown-on-brown palette is somewhat subtle, and almost abstracted.

Used as a clutch, the logo is folded over and unseen, and the chain swings free. This look I love. The classic luxury of exotic snakeskin mixed with the edginess of the hanging chain creates an appealing, sophisticated look. At 18″ x 14″, the To You definitely works with today’s oversized styles, but it is also a sophisticated designer bag that will serve you well for years to come.

Admiring the fashions at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, you’d be forgiven for forgetting the world is facing an economic crisis. With all that glitz and glamour, it didn’t look like anyone was counting their pennies! But some of our favorite starlets showed you can look stunning while scaling back.
