Tianni follows Ed Hardy’s lead with this Rose Tattoo Cross-Body Bag.

Sadly this bag comes off as a poor imitation of those gaudy graphic bags. I’ve never really warmed to Ed Hardy’s bold prints, but at least they were part of the label’s original creative vision. Here the roses and regal crown seem imitative and uninspired. The slogan says “Love My Bag,” but it almost seems like a plea rather than a definitive statement.

The graphic takes focus from what is actually a pretty smart everyday cross-body. The lightweight canvas body makes the Rose Tattoo’s generous dimensions more manageable. The cross-body strap could stand to be much wider, but at least it’s got a synthetic portion to cushion our shoulder.

Had Tianni opted for a more original print, rather than simply following the cues of another fashion house, the $50 Rose Tattoo might have tempted me. However sadly it just seems like a cheap reproduction of a more expensive purse. It may find fans with Ed Hardy fans that are strapped for cash, but I can’t imagine anyone else being interested.

Any man who hasn’t already snagged a Valentine’s Day gift for his lady love is cutting it fine. However his disorganization may be forgiven if he indulges in one of the romantic purses from the Chanel Valentine’s Day 2012 collection.

The French fashion house resisted the temptation to make its bags in blood red or hot pink leather. There isn’t even a hint of a heart to be seen. But by refusing to honor clichés, Chanel’s ensured this small capsule collection will get plenty of wear after February 14.

The purses are all made from pretty blush pink materials. Some have a decadent metallic sheen, others favor matte tones, and there’s even one with a lush python effect. There are five pieces in all: a quilted clutch, a serpentine pochette, a pearlized cosmetics case, an iPad sleeve, and a floral stitched key holder. They all appear like special occasion pieces rather than casual items, but that only makes them feel a bit more special. Valentine’s Day is all about being pampered after all! And who says we can’t add a little extra sophistication into our everyday anyway?

Men who really want to endear themselves to their beloved can also snag some breathtaking jewelry from the same line. The pearl earrings, cuff bracelet, and brooch have the sort of ornate designs we rarely see in the modern fashion world. As a handbag fan I’m also drawn to the lambskin and gold chain bracelets which mimic the familiar chain straps we’ve seen on so many Chanel purses.

Clean lines and a bohemian spirit make this Olema hobo from The SAK something special.

I love the way The SAK strikes the right balance between boho-chic and true sophistication. Its silhouette isn’t as slouchy as many hobos, which makes it more dressed up than the average. However its buttery leather gives it just the right amount of softness. I also really like the complementary brown leather panels. As the colors are all from the same family the contrast doesn’t appear too overwhelming, but it does draw the eye. More conservative girls may prefer the all-over portabello and chocolate options, but I think this one has a lot more pop.

The SAK backs up the Olema’s good looks with a really practical design. It’s a great everyday size, with plenty of pockets. I love the way the exterior compartments come underneath those swooping zips. All too often a plethora of pockets appears tacked on, but these are incorporated into the design so seamlessly. The middle compartment probably deserves more than a snap pocket, but if you’re concerned about security you can always use the zippered pocket inside it.

The Olema is one of The SAK’s most impressive hobos, and the price doesn’t change my mind. At $109 it’s a real find for anyone on a budget.

Avril Lavigne will offer JustFabulous members early access to her new Abby Dawn collection through a brand new deal.

Members of the VIP program can buy Lavigne’s new handbags and shoes before anyone else, and at special discounted prices. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me!

The pre-sale will feature 12 pairs of shoes and five bags from the Abby Dawn range handpicked by Lavigne herself, including a few items that are exclusive to JustFabulous. The skull and bone decorated flats, studded totes, and combat boots reflect Lavigne’s own punk rock image. Luxury lovers may be disappointed by the animal-friendly materials, but considering Lavigne is a vegan the design choice makes a lot of sense.

This is JustFabulous’ second brand partnership, following the release of Iron Fist goodies last July, and it seems there may be more to come.

“We love bringing our members something a little fun and unexpected by offering special collections that are different from our traditional style,” explained JustFabulous’ president and creative director, Kimora Lee Simmons.

A pretty peacock feather helps this Plume Clutch from The Jesse B. Collection stand out from the crowd.

I really love that peacock plume, but I have my reservations about this purse. It feels like The Jesse B. Collection is relying too much on that accent to win us over. If you stripped it away this purse would be downright boring. While the velvet fabric is opulent, the brown color is pedestrian at best. A regal purple or rich navy blue would have been much more dramatic.

I also wonder about the peacock feather’s staying power. While it looks great right now, I’m not sure it’ll be as pretty once we’ve held it in our hand for a while. I really wish The Jesse B. Collection had added a strap so we didn’t need to crush that delicate plume against our palm.

If it does start looking second-hand, at least we can detach that peacock pin. Sadly though, that will just leave us with a boring brown purse. And that end result doesn’t seem like it’s worth $95, does it?

Tepper Jackson meets our carry-on needs with this fun Boheme Flight Bag.

The rainbow print is classic Tepper Jackson. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but I love the psychedelic charms of the flowers, paisley teardrops, and pretty leaves. The vibrant purples, pinks, greens, and whites really pop against the Boheme’s neutral beige background. Some may criticize the colorful print for being a bit childish, but I think we really need it to save the bag from appearing drab.

That print is emblazoned on cheap PVC with a glossy finish. The material’s probably not going to withstand too many long haul flights, but at least it’s easy to keep looking its best while it lasts. Just wipe it with a damp cloth to remove most stains.

The Boheme is just the right size for holding carry-on luggage in my opinion, not too big and not too small. It should be a cinch to keep organized too with several pockets inside and out.

Since it’s made from vinyl the Boheme’s $98 price tag seems a bit steep. But if you’re a regular jetsetter you should get your money’s worth.

Exotic beauty Camila Alves looked to her adopted home of America for inspiration to create the latest handbag line for her Muxo label.

As the fiancé of Hollywood heartthrob Matthew McConaghey, Alves always seems to be on the go. The landscapes of her recent travel destinations, including Texas, New Orleans, Arkansas, New York, and California, have helped the new handbags take shape.

“We are really having fun mixing all of the inspirations from the various landscapes that we’ve been collecting for some time now,” she recently said.

While the “we” may refer to Alves’ mother, who is also her business partner, it might also refer to McConaughey who isn’t afraid to speak up about the purses. Alves claims her husband has “great taste” and a sixth sense about “what works and what doesn’t.”

“We are one big family so we share everything, including opinions on the creations for the line,” she insisted.

I like the daring of the designs I’ve seen so far, but I’m not sure of the cohesiveness. The kiss-lock front pocket on Alves’ favorite new handbag, pictured, seems a little out of place to me. What’s your take on the design?

Tano abandons its usual colorful crunch leather for a modern metallic with this Mini Me Cross-Body Bag.

I’m not usually a fan of metallic leathers, but this one is much mellower than most. The silver hue is quite subtle with just a hint of sparkle. I’m not sure the tan leather accents are the best pairing for the skin, but they’re pretty inoffensive.

By using metallic leather on a classic equestrian-style design, Tano’s made this Mini Me very versatile. So I’m thrilled that Tano’s made the shoulder strap detachable and adjustable. The Mini Me looks most casual when the strap’s extended for cross-body wear. Shorten it and the Tano becomes a more refined shoulder bag. Or remove it altogether to turn the Mini Me into a clutch. It will never be red carpet worthy, even in this mode, but it should work for dinner dates.

Any time a fashion house offers a genuine leather purse for less than $100 I get excited. At a mere $69 we won’t enjoy that lush Italian leather the high-end designers use, but we’ll still see value.

Travel specialists Tumi is preparing to unleash its latest suitcase collection this month. The Tega-Lite line offers the lightweight designs we need to beat those excess baggage charges without compromising on durability.

The range should offer something for frequent fliers and occasional holiday makers alike. It features two and four-wheeled carry-on bags alongside four-wheeled packing cases.

The Tega-Lite line gets its “unparalleled strength” from its hard Tegris body. This isn’t a material we’ve seen a lot of in the fashion world, but the polypropylene thermoplastic composite material should soon endear itself to audiences. It’s been used in lifesaving armor, NASCAR racing cars, and NFL protective gear, so you know it can hold its own.

Tumi weaves the tough material into fabric, then presses it into hard sheets to create the Tega-Lite travel bags. Tumi has forged an exclusive partnership with Tegris manufacturer Milliken, which means these are the only travel bags that use the innovative material.

The monochromatic color scheme isn’t the most exciting around, but I really like the look of the woven texture. These bags might not turn a lot of heads, but they should be easy enough to spot on the baggage carousel.
