Imperfect Indulgence Bags in “The Vow” | Indie Designer Purses Make Movie Debut

Posted on: Feb 14

Imperfect Indulgence MessengerThe creators of The Vow have shunned renowned designer accessories in favor of purses from Canadian indie label Imperfect Indulgence.

A brown leather shoulder bag, a woven red and black handbag, and the square male messenger pictured star alongside Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams in the romantic weepie. Imperfect Indulgence creator Ana Niculae said she can barely wait to see her purses to make their big screen debut.

I’m probably going to be screaming in the movie theater,” she gushed.

It’s unusual for filmmakers to choose low profile designers, but it was important for The Vow’s team to nurture new talent. Film representatives attended a Toronto Fashion Incubator seminar two years ago and encouraged designers to submit their work for consideration. Niculae presented her portfolio which was received enthusiastically by The Vow’s costume design team. They felt the unusual Imperfect Indulgence handbags would be perfect for Rachel McAdams’ art student character.

Product placement expert Jeff Greenfield of C3 Metrics says film appearances can help companies expand their customer base.

The nice thing about product placement is that once it’s in the film, it’s there forever,” he explained. “So anyone who buys this movie, either because they’re a Rachel McAdams fan or they’re a fan of this film, will see the bag over and over and over again.

Consider the number of movie screens that will show the flick in the coming months all around the world, and then the global DVD sales to come. A lot of eyeballs will be on Imperfect Indulgence handbags. Hopefully it leads to big things for this fledgling fashion house!

Tory Burch Robinson Shoulder Bag | Classic Burgundy Leather Handbag

Posted on: Feb 14

Tory Burch Robinson Shoulder BagTory Burch gets back to basics with this Robinson Shoulder Bag.

With so many over-embellished, overdesigned handbags flooding the market, something as clean as the Robinson is like a breath of fresh air. The small golden logo is its only accent, and the bag is better for it. I’m not one for obvious branding, but the abstract look of the double T medallion is a rich complement to the polished burgundy colored leather. The simple design ensures the Robinson will endure as trends come and go.

Tory Burch has created several different Robinsons, but I think this shoulder bag is the most practical. Its spacious but slim design offers all the space we need in a sophisticated package.

That elegance ensures the Robinson can easily work its way into your professional life without looking stuffy in your leisure time. Whatever the occasion or the season, I can imagine the Robinson being a great companion.

Its versatility makes the Robinson’s relatively affordable $375 seem like even more of a bargain. Indulge in this bordeaux version or basic black.

More Features of This Tory Burch Leather Shoulder Bag

  • Front flap closure
  • A 27-inch single shoulder strap
  • Measures 8.5 x 11 x 3.5 inches

Tommy Hilfiger Novelty Nylon Tote | Playful Pink Bow Carry-All Bag

Posted on: Feb 13

Tommy Hilfiger Novelty Nylon ToteIf you don’t take this tote bag too seriously, I wouldn’t worry. I don’t think Tommy Hilfiger does either.

Ordinarily critics are the ones to saddle a handbag with the novelty tag. Here Tommy Hilfiger’s done it for us! And who can blame it? The primary colors Tommy Hilfiger ordinarily chooses have been passed over for a lurid shade of pink. And I can’t recall ever seeing a Tommy Hilfiger bag with a bow, can you?

I’m sure this tote will leave many of the label’s fans scratching their heads, but I don’t mind this bag one bit. It’s bold and brave, and just as practical as any of Tommy Hilfiger’s best accessories. Even the quilting can’t make the nylon body seem rich, but it is more durable than most affordable fabrics. It’s also large enough to hold anything we would want to carry and then some. It could use a few more pockets, and a more secure closure than the clasp, but these are minor niggles.

If the color offends you the affordable bottom line likely won’t change your opinion. But girly girls won’t mind shelling out $88 for this playful purse.

More Features of This Tommy Hilfiger Quilted Tote

  • Plainweave lining
  • Dual handles with an 8.5 inch drop
  • Measures 12.25 x 17.75 x 7 inches
  • Made in China

Wendy Williams Designs Adorn Accessories | Talk Show Host’s New QVC Handbags & Jewelry

Posted on: Feb 13

Wendy Williams

Wendy Williams is the latest celebrity to design an accessories line. The talk show host is preparing to release her Adorn range of handbags, watches, and jewelry through television shopping giant QVC.

Williams assures us she’s not just another celebrity cashing in on her name. She’s been hard at work on the accessories line for the last year, so it’s clearly a labor of love. As she has little experience as a designer she’s hired a creative team to help her realize her vision.

Williams has created a collection that’s “ageless,” so it should ideally appeal to girls in their tweens to senior citizens. Trend conscious fashionistas may not warm to her classic approach to design, but that traditional styling ensures we can wear the accessories for longer. It’s an idea that’s encapsulated by the Adorn name.

I named the line Adorn because we all go up and down in weight and we all get older. But if you do it right, your accessories are the one thing that won’t turn their backs on you. They’re your adornment!” Williams told Celebrity Baby Scoop. “The difference between the same black dress that you have on and the girl across the room has on is how you adorn. Which watch did you wear? Which handbag? So my line is a labor of love, but it’s also a necessity!

QVC is giving shoppers a sneak peek at the Adorn line with the early release of a necklace, a ring, and a cuff bracelet. More pieces will be added to the collection when Adorn makes it official QVC debut at 8 pm Eastern Standard Time on February 16.

Tod’s Fleur Pochette | Colorblocked Nude Mini Convertible Purse

Posted on: Feb 13

Tods Fleur PochetteTod’s seems determined to prove the old adage that good things come in small packages with this Fleur Pochette.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Tod’s creating a small purse, and now that I’m swooning over this one I wonder why it took so long. It’s delicate without being overly feminine. Its nude panels and colorblocking make it feel very contemporary, but its classic retro styling ensures it won’t date too quickly. Its smooth vachetta leather gives it clean crisp lines, and ensures it’ll hold up for as long as we want to carry it. Which judging by my initial reaction could be some time. Something tells me this is no fling!

Storage space is always compromised in such a petite purse, so Tod’s has to do something else to appeal to our practical side. It does it with the detachable strap, which takes the Fleur from a shoulder bag to an evening clutch in an instant. I also appreciate that this strap is made from more of that leather, rather than the usual metal chains, to cushion our shoulder.

Frankly Tod’s needed to wow us because at $1165 the Fleur is probably more expensive than any small purse should be. But it’s so lovely that I’m sorely tempted!

More Features of This Tod’s Vaccheta Leather Pochette

  • Lock closure on front flap
  • An interior pocket
  • Fully lined
  • An adjustable, removable shoulder strap with a 22 to 24 inch drop
  • Measures 8 x 5.5 x 2 inches
  • Made in Italy

Victoria Beckham Debuts Harper Bags | Baby Inspired Totes Part of Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

Victoria Beckham Harper Bags

Being a new mom has clearly influenced Victoria Beckham. At her New York Fashion Week show the former Spice Girl unveiled a new handbag named Harper, after her baby daughter.

The Harper is a practical suede tote, with two external pockets, a flap closure, and a neat top handle. It’s available in a range of neutral colors including black, chocolate brown, and khaki. The designer is obviously proud of her creation, as she shared the above image with her Twitter followers unable to attend the new season showcase.

Victoria’s soccer star husband David Beckham sat proudly in the front row, alongside US Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour, at the Manhattan runway show. It’s the first time he’s ever attended a catwalk event, but judging by his enthusiastic response it may not be his last.

It’s been a successful morning,he told reporters outside the event. “This is my first show and it’s nice to be involved, and to see how hard my wife works.

While the Harper generated the most interest, the handbags weren’t the only highlight of the fall/winter showcase. It also featured other family influenced items, including some beanies like the one’s David Beckham often wears, and some baseball themed items inspired by her son Brooklyn’s love of the game.

Timmy Woods Butterfly Cross-Body Bag | White Wooden Novelty Purse

Posted on: Feb 13

Timmy Woods Butterfly Cross-Body BagNot content with just one butterfly themed purse in its arsenal, Timmy Woods has released through Butterfly Bag.

While the Mariposa had bold wood-toned and black colorings, this Butterfly Bag is much more subdued. The white wood body is speckled with gold, giving it an almost antique feel. Can’t you just imagine a historian unearthing this keepsake in some ancient Greek site?

It’s difficult to avoid comparing the two bags, even though they are really different. While I initially criticized the Mariposa’s butterfly shape for being too kitschy, seeing the alternative makes me think I may have been too hasty. This butterfly is almost blob-like, unfinished and unformed. Where is the attention to detail we’ve come to expect from Timmy Woods?

It doesn’t look like Timmy Woods has put in the work here, so I’m glad we get some sort of discount on it. While the Mariposa clocked in at $338, this Butterfly is a shade cheaper at $276. If you like butterflies and Timmy Woods’ kitschy creations you may be swayed, but I still think this cross-body is too expensive for something that feels only half-baked.

More Features of This Timmy Woods Wood Cross-Body

  • Signed by the designer
  • Clasp closure
  • Satiny lining
  • A rope chain strap with a 23 inch drop
  • Measures 3.5 x 7 x 3 inches

Snakes Star in Lanvin Commercial | Fashion House’s Quirky Spring/Summer 2012 Advertisement

Posted on: Feb 12

Lanvin Spring Summer 2012 Ad

Lanvin’s found a use for snakes beyond their precious skins. The slithery serpents are draped over the models in the label’s new spring/summer 2012 advertising campaign!

After snapping several successful campaigns in the past, it’s little surprise that Lanvin has rerecruited famed photographer Stephen Meisel to shoot Aymeline Valade, Othilia Simon, and Marte van Haaster. I’m not sure whether he’s responsible for their calm demeanors, but somehow the beauties have managed to keep their cool while the reptiles wrap themselves around their bodies.

Personally I think the snakes would be unwanted dinner party guests, but these girls don’t seem to mind one jot. Perhaps clutching the snakeskin purses has helped them become more tolerant of the real things, or they’ve just indulged in a few too many margaritas to mind!

Either way, this is an inspired advertisement from Lanvin. The snakes make it quirky enough to convince us to linger over the image. And while we’re there we can’t help appreciating those feminine flowing cocktail dresses, or the structured exotic clutch purses. The composition is a bit messy for my tastes, but I suppose anywhere that’s hosted a party won’t be neat!

It’s not quite as exciting as seeing Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmermann dancing to Pitbull with Lanvin’s creative director Alber Elbaz as we did last season, but it’ll do!

Tignanello Color Me Classy Satchel | Retro Brown Leather Satchel

Posted on: Feb 12

Tignanello Color Me Classy SatchelTignanello takes us back to the 70s with this Color Me Classy satchel.

I’m not sure it’s quite as classy as its name suggests, but the combination of tan and chocolate brown has a charming sense of nostalgia. It’s very 70s, but with that decade enjoying a fashion renaissance it’s also surprisingly on trend. The white piping helps the earthy tones really pop.

Tignanello’s leather is thin and a bit too shiny to really impress, but it’s not a bad material for the money. At $159 this satchel is more affordable than most leather bags on the market, and it should survive longer than the synthetics we see at this price.

The functional design also helps to win us over. It’s as large as we would want a day bag to be, with enough pockets to make the space manageable. And if you’re craving more room remember the zippered pocket on the back.

The rolled handles suit the bag’s retro vibe, but they’re a shade too short for easy carrying once the bag is full. Thankfully Tianni’s also added a cross-body strap to help us out. The satchel doesn’t look as authentic when this is applied, but we won’t mind too much when we’re on the go.

More Features of This Tignanello Retro Satchel

  • Top zip closure
  • Fully lined interior
  • A removable strap with a 14 inch drop
  • Measures 5.2 x 12.2 x 10 inches

Brynn Capella Donates Profits to Cat Shelter | Chicago Designer’s Online Charity Drive for Tree House Humane Society

Posted on: Feb 12

Tree House Humane SocietyWhile most fashion designers are celebrating Valentine’s Day, Brynn Capella has turned her attention to a more serious cause. Until the end of the month the Chicago native will donate 50% of the profits from online sales to the Tree House Humane Society.

The Tree House Humane Society is a Chicago-based charity which cares for the city’s cats. The group rescues ill and injured stray cats, and rehabilitates them to get them ready for new homes. The cageless Illinois shelter has a no kill policy, and a commitment to spaying and neutering its animals to stem the tide of unwanted pets.

However the benefits of spaying and neutering go beyond controlling the pet population, as Capella knows all too well. In 2008 her cat Cher was diagnosed with breast cancer. She lost her beloved kitty two weeks later. In her search for answers she discovered that spaying and neutering helps prevent breast cancer cases in dogs and cats. In fact, the risk decreases by 91% if an animal is spayed before she first goes on heat.

Brynn Capella’s donation to the Tree House Humane Society is well timed, as February is spay and neuter month. She hopes that her charitable promotion will raise awareness of this vital link amongst pet owners, as well as helping the Tree House Humane Society continue their vital work.

Is there space for a new Brynn Capella bag in your wardrobe?
