I can now finally recommend a Dior handbag. I am so excited because it’s been such a long time since I genuinely believed Dior was rising up to its iconic legacy.

The Dior Bee Tote (see the cute little “bee” charm pictured right) is crafted from shiny deerskin leather and features dual buckled top handles, exterior ‘cannage’ top-stitching and front buckled pocket.

The gold-tone hardware is a perfect compliment to red color of this medium-sized (12.5 x 16.5 x 8.5) tote, and I’m particularly impressed with the fact they took the time to give the Bee Tote a zippered closure instead of opting for the more in vogue open top.

This is a real beauty in person. The photos simply do not do it justice. A larger version is available in a very chic taupe color that I highly recommend as well.

O’Neill has left its popular summer style behind to create a book bag that’s tailor-made for the spring weather ahead.

The domed satchel style has more structure than the casual O’Neill bags we’re used to seeing. This gives it an added sophistication, making it completely appropriate for the office or the classroom. The smooth beige fabric is embellished with a feminine floral design. The diamond pattern mimics the popular quilted leather we’re used to seeing, but the delicate flowers give this print a fun girly twist. It might be too fussy for some, but it’s entirely appropriate for new season.

If O’Neill had stopped there I might have been a little happier. But like so many brands, they had to put their logo on it. The embroidered script wouldn’t be so bad if it was this purse’s only design feature. But the logo just looks messy laid over the top of the bag’s floral print.

The round rolled handles look adorable, but they’re not the most practical choice. With a 6 inch drop, they’re a little too short for slinging over your shoulder. Handheld carrying is fine if you’re travelling light, but you might struggle once you’ve stashed a few textbooks inside.

The slip pocket up front is just the start of the organizational features. The ample interior has enough space to carry a few books to school, or files to the office. It’s not very wide though, so you may have to leave the novel you’re reading at home! Inner zip and slip pockets help you organize the smaller goodies you need to get through the day.

Like most O’Neill accessories, the Look book bag is available at a recession-busting price. At just $36.50, this is one look we can all afford.

When Lauren Conrad is seen with a handbag, you know it’s going to be popular. The reality star from The Hills is just one celebrity who has become a fan of Treesje bags. The regular satchel version is plenty big for everyday use, but the Asher Grande is overdoing it a bit, in my opinion. You only need to see one picture of Lauren Conrad nearly dwarfed by the enormous size to see what I mean.

Grande version or not, the Asher is very stylish handbag. The curved zipper details on the front have a cool rocker vibe, but the braided leather handles and pleated accents tone it down a little. If you’re thinking that a braided strap doesn’t sound particularly comfortable, no need to worry. Treesje also included a detachable strap with a wide leather piece that sits easily on your shoulder.

The price for the Asher handbag runs anywhere from $595 to $698 depending on the style you choose. This might seem a little high to some, but considering the intricate details of the purse and the sheer size of it, it doesn’t seem like a bad deal.

We’ve all heard of the man bag. Now meet the men’s clutch.

If Bottega Veneta’s fall/winter collection for 2009/2010 is any indication, these oversized purses will be the next big thing. Bottega Veneta’s creative director Tomas Maier showed off the clutches alongside its new line at the recent Milan fashion week.

The color palette is distinctly masculine, with brown, beige, and truffle earth tones the order of the day. They coordinate perfectly with Bottega Veneta’s soft suede shoes and classic tailored jackets.

But is a manly color range enough to convince the average Joe that he needs to carry a clutch?

Even the practical man bag was slow to catch on, so I have my doubts whether most guys will embrace this fashion fad. These oversized accessories may be more functional than the tiny purses many girls carry in the evenings, but it’s hard to shatter a clutch’s feminine image.

Perhaps this is one trend better left on the catwalk!

Maybe it’s a little early, but all the retail signs of spring are here: the resort collections are starting to show up in stores, last year’s models of everything are on sale, and pastels are everywhere. Okay, well, maybe not everywhere. I, for one, am still fully engaged in my all-black winter wardrobe program, but I am thinking ahead to the moment when the knee high boots are replaced with strappy sandals.

The pleating is a genius detail that gives the Dot an almost hobo softness, but the structural design keeps the handbag in line.

The mint green is delicate and lovely, and will complement spring shades beautifully. Or, if you want it right now, it would be a great way to add a soft pinch of color to your own dark winter palette. I love the crinkly texture of the leather and the way that the Dot’s overall softness is balanced by the classic shape and shiny silver hardware. 

The dual straps fasten to the sides of the main compartment with adorable oversized buttons. There is a front compartment with the visible turnlock closure. The flap top covers the front pocket and the zipped main compartment. The 7″ x 11″ x 14″ size shows that this season’s oversized trend isn’t abating, and women will be carrying luggage-sized accessories for at least one more season.

Soft, pastel, oversized, and classic, the Dot has a lot going for it. I just can’t wait for the weather to match its bright, optimistic mood!

Nina Ricci’s Noe tote offers the timeless styling we crave in a handbag at a recession-friendly price.

When you look at this bag it’s hard to believe it retails for just $380. Not even your closest friends will guess that this tote is mostly made from a PVC/polyester blend.
