It’s just as vibrant as the season’s blooming flowers, with bright handbags, chic dresses, and other stylish fashion choices.

And what better model to head up the colorful spring/summer advertising campaign than striking redhead Karen Elson?

Karen has a long history with the French fashion house. The British beauty starred in their last fall/winter advertising campaign and their spring/summer commercials in 2008.

I love the way that photographer Bruce Weber has played on the contrasts here. Karen’s luscious auburn locks clash delightfully with the peacock blue satchel she’s carrying.

If that snakeskin stunner is any indication of the purses to come, I can’t wait to see the rest of the spring/summer line!

Senoracartera.com handbag site so our main focus should be, well, bags. However. from time to time I feel the need to show you something which deserves attention (and, yes, it is handbag related).

After rumors late last year, 3 fashion icons, Madonna, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, have come together and made advertising history. The Material Girl is the face of French fashion label Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer ’09 collection ad campaign. See a bigger picture here.

Jacobs, LV’s creative director, expressed a lifelong interest in working with Madge and felt that she and Louis were a match made in heaven. Judging from these shots taken of Madonna clad in head-to-toe LV and sporting some seriously fierce handbags,

What happens to holiday bags when the holiday party season is over? Well, for one thing, they still line the shelves of all your favorite retailers, electronic or otherwise. And, they look a little different, maybe. All the bling you needed on New Years looks a little gaudier in February. Unless you’re like me, and you think a healthy dose of daily bling never hurt anyone. Well, the Marc Jacobs Eugenie Wristlet has it if you’re looking for it.

The soft metallic leather has a pouch style main compartment with a fold over flap that fastens with a press stud. The inside has has a small zippered pocket to keep all your little jingly things in check, and is fully lined. The 9″ x 6″ x 1″ size seems petite for a clutch these days, but will fit neatly into the palm of your hand when filled with just a few items.

The most striking part of the Eugenie, of course, besides the crinkly silver metallic leather, is the line of gold and glitter pyramid studs at the front of the clutch. Their sparkle is almost over-the-top against the shiny leather, but the small size of the clutch makes it seem like it should be judged more like jewelry than as a full-sized accessory.

Personally, I like a lot of sparkle in my accessories, but I still feel a little on the fence about this one. There’s no detail in particular that I find unattractive, but somehow, the total package doesn’t quite gel with me. That being said, I know that there’s a girl out there who could rock this bag well.

Messenger totes are all the rage at the moment, and I’m not at all surprised by their big comeback. We’ve moved way beyond the it-almost-looks-like-a-fanny-pack stage of crossbody bags and into a new movement of stylish, even chic purses with the practical carrying style.

While some designers have chosen to incorporate a detachable strap that converts a purse to a crossbody, many are creating separate messenger versions of their other handbags. Nine West’s In the Bag collection is a perfect example of this. The popular, casual bag is available in regular tote, convertible satchel, crossbody hobo, and just plain crossbody in a plethora of colors, patterns, and sizes.

I love this plaid option in a slim, mini sling bag. It has a schoolgirl vibe without looking juvenile. This crossbody would be fabulous with some skinny jeans, a chunky scarf, and a classic leather jacket for a bit of a rocker chic look. As the weather changes, I can also imagine pairing it with a simpler t-shirt and jeans outfit rocked with tall heels. Sharif is known for walking on the wild side, but this Mosaic Collage tote might just take things too far!

Only the bravest bagista would dare to carry this hodgepodge handbag. Swatches of glossy patent fabrics mimic our favorite exotic skins. I’m all about eco-friendly fashion. Give me an chic, up-cycled handbag any day of the week. It’s a recent, important trend for the fashion industry that sometimes doesn’t get enough credit, in my opinion. Designers like Nahui Ollin and Harveys are just two of many bag designers that have taken unexpected, environmentally conscious materials and based an entire company around them.

While Nahui Ollin uses candy wrappers, Harveys is known for their popular woven “seatbelt bags”. As strange is it sounds, the material has proven to be a smart choice given its durability and variety of colors. Some of their handbags, mostly in solid colors, tend to look like picnic baskets to me, but I stopped in my tracks when I came across this fun rugby version.

The alternating blue and white seatbelts create a striped pattern that makes me think of a cottage beach house all decked out for the summer. The rugby satchel gives me the itch to grab swimwear and a floppy straw hat and head to the water. I’m not sure if Harveys was intending to provoke that feeling with the stripes, but it definitely has a casual summer vibe.

As mentioned before, the entire bag is made from recycled seatbelts. Although some of Harveys other creations actually look like a bag made from the car part, most people probably wouldn’t immediately guess the material of this one. The nylon blend is practical, durable, and most likely waterproof.  

The interior features a Harveys logo-printed lining and several pockets. If you prefer bolder colors, the collection also comes in red and white stripes. Look for more rugby handbag styles and sizes as well.

Uh oh! It appears that Coach, one of the most popular designer handbag brands, is heading down the same road that resulted in damaging Dooney & Bourke’s designer brand into a glorified teeny bopper handbag label.

I was very impressed with the direction Coach had taken over the past couple of years and considered it one of the better labels in the moderately-priced range (except for their over $1000 bags that defy logic).

Then they go and design something like this! Except for its’ classic shape and practical storage features, the Coach Tattersall Graffiti Domed Satchel is all wrong. I mean WRONG!

The tragic graffiti-print fabric exterior and tacky metallic leather trim make for one stunted handbag. Plus it’s priced at $498.

Are they kidding me? I wouldn’t pay 5 pennies for this thing let alone $500. My advice to the design team at Coach is to stick to classic beauties such as the Penelope, Spectator and Madison collections and leave the ridiculous hag bags to D & B or Juicy Couture.
