Practical doesn’t have to mean short on style. Tignanello is one brand that accomplishes the sometimes difficult task of combining functional details without looking frumpy. The cute Tignanello On the Go tote is one of my favorites from the brand because of its extremely practical design and great features. The turquoise is a gorgeous choice for a pop of color, but this medium-sized bag also comes in a simple black or white. The vibrant blue is great for the upcoming season, though, if you’re looking for a change.

This Tignanello bag reminds me just a bit of the Longchamp Le Pliage with its durable fabric and leather trim. The silhouettes are different, but the idea is the same: beach tote casual material with classic touches to make it versatile for everyday use. The white trim on the the blue On the Go handbag adds just the right amount of contrast and gives it a clean, crisp look that’s undeniably chic.

Drawstring details on each side and pretty pleats on the front also add to the traditional feel of the On the Go tote. The inside of this Tignanello is roomy and includes several pockets for storage. Also included is a nifty zippered pouch that will hook on to the interior key fob or detach for using separately.

Sometimes it’s great to get that fabulously expensive luxury handbag because you love it, must have it, and will save up any amount to get it. We all covet the style of our favorite celebrities, but most of us could never hope to afford the designer fashions they wear. With the help of some of the world’s most chic stars, British label Accessorize has released some exclusive, and affordable, celebrity-designed goodies. I love Heidi Klum’s hard-shell clutch, but it’s not so practical from nine to five. For a functional daybag with flair, I’d pick this floral purse designed by Kelly Osbourne.

Kelly made her name as the loud-mouthed daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, so it’s surprising to see such classic styling in this slouchy shoulder bag. The black embroidered print has an art deco feel. This vintage pattern is scattered with silver sequins for some added style. I love the design, so I’m disappointed it doesn’t wrap around the bag. Hold it close to your side though and no one will ever know!

The size isn’t extravagant, but it is large enough to handle your essentials with a few luxuries besides. I feel the zippered pocket is a little small to be the only organizational feature, but it does provide a convenient spot for stashing coins and a set of keys.

The plaited shoulder strap offers style and comfort. It’s made of soft canvas so it’ll feel heavenly on your shoulder no matter how far you have to go.

Israeli born designer Elie Tahari has unveiled his new spring/summer 2009 ad campaign. It stars the stunning Italian model, Angelina Jolie lookalike Bianca Balti.

I love the way Terry Richardson has photographed Bianca, with his favorite flash techniques illuminating her dewy skin. I’m not sure anyone could make those clown-like Heather pants look good, but Bianca does her best with the gold spotted trousers.

Those harem pants might not have won me over, but I can’t help drooling over her snakeskin satchel. It’s called the Nico, and it’s promising to be one of Elie Tahari’s best-selling accessories this season. The pale python finish could so easily appear washed out, but the hand-painted gold detail and polished gold hardware gives the handbag some added flair.

You can get a jump on the next season’s trends at one of Elie Tahari’s boutiques. The spring/summer collection is currently available at the Atlanta, Bal Harbour, Boca Raton, Boston, East Hampton, Last Vegas, and New York stores.

Spring colors are popping up everywhere. While it may be a while before we see them emerging from the ground, the bright, cheery tones are once again invading the fashion world. Just in time to keep the gloom of lingering winter away, vibrant hues of purple, yellow, and more are bringing a glimpse of the season to come.

One of the best examples of this I’ve seen lately is the Latico Nappa Candy Stripe bag in a beautiful rosy purple. The color practically screams cherry blossoms to me and makes me want to dust off my flowy sundresses from last year. Even the interior lining is warm and inviting with its pretty floral print.

Besides the promise of spring, the Nappa Candy Stripe purse has several other appealing qualities that make it worth a look. The vertical stitching that runs around the outside of the handbag creates exposed seams for an interesting visual detail. A functional drawstring cinches in the top half of the bag however much or little you want.

I love the fact that this Latico handbag is slim, but its large interior compartment will expand to hold plenty of necessary items plus some. The shoulder handles are nice and long with a 9 inch drop for easy carrying, and a magnetic snap closure keeps everything in place. The Latico Candy Stripe bag is also available in a hobo and satchel version. The shoulder bag featured here retails for $185.

With plenty of shine and a splash of bling, there’s no ignoring this tote bag from Zufi Alexander.

A simple rectangular shape allows the vibrant silver leather to really shine. The wide belt accents ensure the front pockets are more than just functional. You might worry about their security, but the pouches are so deep I’m sure anything you stash inside would stay safe.

If that was where Zufi Alexander stopped I could happily part with the $1995 asking price. But it seems the designer just didn’t know when enough was enough. The large wooden buckles have a summery beach feel, clearly at odds with the bag’s disco vibe. The details clash again with the addition of leather flower charms. I love the way the blue and gold metallic blooms look against the silver, and the Swarovski crystal embellishments are in keeping with the purse’s flamboyant style. But their basic cutout design feels a tad immature.

I may not appreciate the look, but its practical design is impressive. Those front pockets are just a taste of things to come. The generous interior offers a large zippered pocket and a handy side pouch for your cell phone. The zip top closure ensures everything stays safe and secure.

I need to fall hard for a handbag before I think about spending nearly $2000 on it. This tote’s unique looks don’t have a place in my wardrobe, but I’m sure there’s a diva out there who’d love to take it home.

They say a dog is man’s best friend, so don’t be surprised if you become just as attached to Zac Posen’s Sharpei purse.

The soft pleating of the purse isn’t as pronounced as a sharpei’s wrinkly skin, but it’s still clear to see how the bag got its name. The buttery leather falls in soft folds, giving the Sharpei a feminine feel. Yet it never gets too slouchy thanks to the rigid frame.

Now I know what two coin purses glued on to a wallet would look like – hell. Thanks to Maison Martin Margielam a brand I’m usually fond of, we now have the ultimate clutch. NOT!

This thing is ugly, incomprehensible and about as fashion-forward as plaid retainers (don’t laugh, I’ve seen them!). Although this over-priced dud is tauted as a clutch, I can’t imagine the girl who’d be caught dead with it for a night out on the town.

I’d prefer to douse it with gasoline, set it on fire and spread its’ ashes to the four corners of the Earth.

If you must know more about it, the Maison Martin Margiela Pockets Clutch has two coin purses attached to the outside of a wallet with snap closure and features several interior credit card slots, zippered pocket and money slits.

It looks cheap, but, unfortunately, it’s not. You can pre-order this silver hag bag for $795, but I’d prefer you wouldn’t. Do as I say, pretty please?!?
