The gathered details help the leather slouch in all the right places, giving the Niger a relaxed feel. But it’s not completely casual, thanks to the glazed leather’s glossy sheen. The Niger is also available in patent if you want to up the glam level.

As you’d expect from a sports bag, the Niger offers plenty of space. There’s a handy zip pocket on front, and another one inside. Yet a handbag of this size really begs for more. Make sure you stash your smaller items in the pockets if you want to find them again!

After seeing a lot of overworked handbags lately, Lanvin’s minimalistic approach is appealing. This label understands you don’t need a mish-mash of fabrics, chunky hardware, or loud logos to make a statement. The Niger is a fine example of the old adage, less is more.

British comedian Stephen Fry is so proud of his new handbag, he’s been telling the world about it on Twitter! Stephen recently splurged on a Paul Smith Coin Union Jack laptop bag.

Stephen denies claims that the accessory is a manbag, writing “It’s not really a manbag, just a largeish bag. Paul S also. Not effeminate. But even if it was, I’m man enough to carry it off.“

Stephen recently posted a photo of his pride and joy which caused a flurry of activity in the Twitter-verse. For every fan of the flamboyant bag there were comments to criticize it. One said it “looks like a big jamjar with a strap at the top” while others wondered how Stephen gets through airport security with it!

Personally I love its original style, and the way the coins line up to form a Union Jack flag. I’m not sure I have the right personality to pull off such a bold fashion statement, but this colorful comedian definitely does!

The Ayers snakeskin finish is exotic without appearing as ostentatious as an anaconda or python. Swatches of the luxurious skin are stitched together to create a subtle striped pattern. A fabric this exquisite deserves to take center stage, so hardware is kept to a minimum.

The vintage frame ensures the Sibal holds its shape, no matter how much you’ve stashed inside. It doesn’t have the ample space many modern girls crave, but there’s enough room to take care of your daily essentials. Dual slip pockets and a zippered compartment help you keep your handbag organized and clutter-free. But my favorite feature is the matching coin purse with its kiss lock closure. It’s just so cute!

I love the clean crisp look of this white handbag, but I’m a little worried it might show stains over time. If you are too, you can choose the Sibal in sand dune brown or olive green.

At $915 retail, the Sibal shoulder bag isn’t likely to be an impulse buy. But when you compare it with other snakeskin purses on the market, it’s an absolute bargain.

I love handbags that have a vintage quality to them. Of course, the real deal is always great, but we don’t all have time to scour obscure vintage shops to find them. That’s why this Francesco Biasia bag offers the best of both worlds. The Allison Satchel has the charm of an classic vintage handbag but with the quality and features we expect from today’s purses.   

The Allison is by no means a small bag. This roomy Francesco Biasia number will fit plenty of essential items with room to spare. I can envision it making a great overnight or even weekend trip satchel due to its amount of space. Of course, it’s right in line with the current oversized trend for everyday bags as well.

This satchel has two options for carrying it. You can use the rolled leather handles or the detachable shoulder strap that allows some extra length for convenience. All of the leather on the Allison is real, which we expect on a bag in this price range, but it also has a nice, worn-in look that adds to the vintage feel.

The top closes by a zipper detailed with metal-tipped pulls that add a little shine. I love how the double handles loop through the sides and top of the bag almost as if they are really one long piece of leather. This spacious satchel is lined with a fun, striped fabric and retails for right at $548.

It’s hard not to think of side ponytails and legwarmers when looking at the Botkier Chrystie bag. This designer hobo has a definite 1980s air about it, but thankfully the result is more of a loose translation of that particular fashion period than a literal one. Legwarmers might come to mind, but they seem to be making a comeback of their own anyway.

The most prominent detail on the Chrystie is the distinct shape of the hobo. In reality, this clever Botkier bag is actually like two in one. It’s as if the designer took two triangular bags and molded them together to create this unique silhouette. The result is a funky, rocker-esque purse that is surprisingly slim but with an ideal amount of storage.

Each side of the Chrystie has a zipper that runs diagonally down the bag. I love the slight edge added with the tassel details. It gives it a little punch of personality without looking like it’s trying too hard.

The majority of the bag is smooth leather, but Botkier added some variety by including panels of snake-embossed leather on the front and back of the handbag. The black version is basic, but the simple color palette allows the shape of the bag to shine. If you really want to stand out, though, the Chrystie comes in a bright metallic bronze color that will definitely catch the eye. Look for similar snake-embossed panels and v-shape on the hobo’s sister bag, the Chrystie Satchel, that is equally chic but a bit more grown-up.

Giorgio Armani’s handbags and ready-to-wear fashions are true works of arts. So it’s only fitting that creative director Emanuele del Fabbro’s spring summer 2009 collection was inspired by surrealist paintings.

She’s no Weeping Woman, but Russian model Sasha Pivovarova makes a convincing surreal muse. The minimalistic makeup by Charlotte Tilbury and the angular hairstyle by Luigi Murenu help achieve this bold look.

Sasha Pivovarova might be gorgeous, but for me the star of this ad is that sexy Giorgio Armani satchel. It seems to mark a shift away from the oversized bulky bags so popular last season with its streamlined look. The retro domed shape and cute flap pockets have me salivating!

There’s so much movement in these commercials; the images nearly leap from the screen. The elegant look is achieved with classic black and white tones, a welcome contrast to the colorful campaigns we’ve seen for the new season. Congratulations to photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot for daring to be different!

The look is classic and refined, with a timeless color range to match. Black, winter white, and gray might seem a little conservative at first, but look closer. Years after its original release, Hayden-Harnett’s Havana hobo continues to be one of the brand’s bestsellers.

Just because it’s a classic doesn’t mean the Havana is stuck in the past. The dual front pocket is a recent addition, and Hayden-Harnett always releases a few more color combinations every season. This playful lagoon green in one of the new offerings for spring. It will sit comfortably alongside classic shades like blueberry, brandy brown, and black onyx.

Brazilian cow leather gives the Havana hobo its buttery soft finish. Bling is kept to a minimum, with Hayden-Harnett preferring contrast stitching and the leather’s natural slouch to add interest. The HH amulet hangs proudly from the shoulder strap, but it’s easily removable if you’d rather not advertise.

This doesn’t have the bulky looks of so many oversized bags, but it’s surprisingly spacious. It’s a little like that handbag Mary Poppins carried, with enough room for a cardigan if you get chilly, and flats for the end of a long night!  Plenty of pockets inside and out make organization a breeze.

I’d prefer double straps to handle the weight of an overstuffed Havana, but the single handle does its best to keep up. It’s adjustable and padded to maximize versatility and comfort.

Fans of the brand’s Target line may balk at the $498 retail price. But anytime I find a classic leather purse for $500 I feel like it’s a pretty good deal!

The global economic crisis has claimed its latest fashion victim. San Francisco-based designer Rene Huber baby’s, Goldenbleu, is shutting its doors.

I’ve always loved Goldenbleu’s quirky style and bold color choices, so I’m really sorry to see it disappear from the fashion scene. The diagonally striped Andie Wallet and cute tasseled Carson Tote are some of my favorites.

But there is a silver lining which is sure to make you smile. Goldenbleu’s online store is offering major discounts of up to 90% on their purses, including all clutches, satchels, and hobos. There are no exchanges or returns, but you’re not going to want to give up those prized Goldenbleu purses anyway! The prices will be slashed until February 16, or until there’s no more left. Considering how limited the bags are right now, I’ll be really surprised if they last that long.

After that you’ll just have to scour eBay for your Goldenbleu fix!
