Fendi has pushed its classic Borderline clutch style through several renewals. Sometimes its ruffled, sometimes its black, but it always has the signature Borderline clasp, which is almost universally admired by the masses.

The delicate feminine pink of this clutch is nicely offset by the textured gold border and intricate signature closure.  It folds elegantly and looks like an instant red carpet classic. The clasp itself is half Fendi gold logo and half rhinestone encrusted. While it is, geometrically speaking, symmetrical and balanced, there is a delightful asymmetry to the design of this feature. It really pulls the whole bag together and keeps it from falling over the edge of classic and boring.

The 8″ x 4″ x 2″ size is impractical for anything other than the most high profile events. You might be able to fit in your cell phone and keys, but forget about your compact and gloss. The color, while lovely, is also a bit impractical. I would hesitate using this clutch with anything other than pastels and metallics, which leaves out the majority of my evening wardrobe.

But if you are looking for a soft touch of color for a very special spring ensemble, this Fendi Mini Borderline clutch is a beautifully designed, compact option.

The Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips has been left “shaken” after thieves broke into her car and stole her handbag last week. The theft occurred on Thursday afternoon in West London.

Zara’s bag contained jewelry, cash, and her passport. Thankfully the purse was abandoned with the passport inside near the scene of the crime, but the jewelry and cash have not been recovered. Depending on the handbag, it might have been the most expensive part!

“Zara was shaken and was frantically searching for her handbag. Police told her later that it was an opportunistic crime – but there is always a moment of fear that she has been targeted,” a source said.

Zara’s Range Rover was damaged in the incident, and her riding gear was also found strewn across the road near her vehicle.

The crime comes just one month after Zara’s cousin, Princess Beatrice, was also the victim of a car crime. Her £17,000 BMW was stolen in a nearby area of London. Those British royals are just having no luck!

Celine is one of those fashion houses that has been around forever, yet never goes out of style. Perhaps it is the understated charm of the designs that keeps them elite, but more likely it is the price tag. Which is not to say that their designs aren’t worth the money. It all depends on what you happen to be in the market for.

The Celine Les Cuirs Sulky Tarpan Shoulder Bag presents quite a mouthful of foreign words for us ugly Americans, but the meaning of them is relatively simple. Les cuirs are simply the tanned skins of animals, and a tarpan is a wild horse, which I assume refers to the utilitarian shape of the bag rather that the materials. I probably don’t have to tell you what sulky means, and it’s a cute way to describe a slightly floppy bag.

Semantics aside, the bag is constructed of deliciously supple chocolate brown leather, and I love the shape, from the softly rounded edges to the accordion expanding sides. The patch reinforcements at the bottom of the bag are a lovely and practical touch. The flap front closes with a gorgeous goldtone clasp that attaches to the handle by a chain.

In the pictures, I don’t love the circular handle, but on a person, it makes the Sulky Tarpan look sleek and ergonomic. The goldtone rings that attach the handle to the bag look a little rickety, but are actually well-constructed and sturdy, as far as I can tell. They lend the bag a little delicate feminine touch on what is an overwhelmingly masculine bag, reminiscent of some vintage briefcase styles.

Overall, I really like the look of the Les Cuirs Sulky Tarpan bag, as unwieldy as its name might be. It has the classic good looks that staunch traditionalists will love, and a practical utilitarian appeal for the rest of us.

Matt & Nat is becoming well-established as a handbag brand. Most of us are now familiar with the all-vegan, cruelty-free philosophy of the company. Well, their unique designs are starting to hit mainstream making it a desired and respected designer brand.

Even if you aren’t an animal-loving vegan who lives to spread a message of positivity and spirituality, as I envision Matt & Nat’s creator Inder Bedi, you’ll still appreciate the stylish designs of these bags. This Tracy Marrow Hobo is very indicative of the brand’s signature look. It has a classic shape but the details are what sets it apart.

Most Matt & Nat handbags, including the Tracy, are offered in a Japanese rice paper material that makes them instantly recognizable, in my opinion. The hardware on this hobo includes screw-head studs and a logo plate.

For an interesting touch, the zippered entrance to the Tracy is on the front, which allows the zipper to function as part of the bag’s overall style rather than just a practical feature. Combined with the studded front flap pockets, this Matt & Nat purse has a kind of edgy vibe to it. The pewter color shown here is great for rocking out an outfit, but the Tracy Marrow Hobo also comes in a basic black for everyday.

The right gold purse can effortlessly add glamour to any evening outfit. But finding that elusive purse can be so hard in a world where metallics tend to look brassy rather than royal. Well allow me to introduce you to the Lauren Merkin Charlotte, a clutch whose dusted gold finish is a real winner.

The glossy patent leather gives the gold a beautiful molten metal look. I think this shade is ideal for parties, but the Charlotte is also available in many other tones and fabrics to suit all tastes. No matter which color you choose, you can still admire the subtly gathered body and fashionable front flap style.

The long design isn’t exactly oversized, but it does offer more space than traditional tiny clutch purses. Lanvin is famous for creating classic, sophisticated styles that women cherish. Their line is so timelessly chic that multiple generations share Lanvin dresses as heirlooms. They almost never fall into the trendy trap, and I am always thankful for that.

Which is why I am so terribly confused and upset by their lack of creativity in this bag. It looks so much like a Foley + Corinna bag that if I saw someone carrying it, I might think they just had an F+C knockoff. It has the signature F+C handle, the only difference being the braided texture of the Lanvin, and the smaller knot on the end of the handle.

The bag itself is nice enough. I like the F+C styles, and so I like this, too. The simple rectangle shape is lovely paired with the unusually curvy handle, and I really like the removable shoulder strap. The color combination is subtle and elegant, which is exactly what I expect of Lanvin, and the textural juxtaposition of the ultra smooth blue leather against the black braided leather is lovely. The studs add a layer of edginess to this sophisticated design.

At 16″ x 11″ x 1″, the bag is great for packing full of your everyday essentials, but folds in half nicely (just like the Foley + Corinna bags) in case you want to go lighter. Overall, I like the bag, but for the $1,845 price tag, I could have four or five Foley + Corinna bags that are of comparable (but not quite as luxurious) quality. For me, the recession trumps any attachment I have to Lanvin.

Nahui Ollin is a big name in the environmentally-friendly fashion world. Her use of recycled everyday items makes her a leader when it comes to inventive designs.

The candy wrappers, soda bottle labels, and other various papers can sometimes look very similar to me from bag to bag at a distance. However, each is really unique up close with many bags offered in the multi-colored Tuttifrutti, like on this Ritual Tote, and in Letters, as on the Rosy Cheeks Wristlet.

This handbag is not for anyone who wants to blend into a crowd, though. The bright colors are enough to keep the shy from carrying it, but it’s perfect for gals who want to stand out or don’t mind inviting conversation from strangers.

It has sturdy leather handles and a handy buckled flap with a magnetic closure for style and practicality. The Ritual holds a decent amount of items and even has an interior pocket for small things.

Recycled material doesn’t always mean inexpensive, though. Handmade and intricately woven can often carry a high cost. This paper and leather Nahui Ollin Ritual retails for $165, which seems a bit much to me for a bag you can’t wear with everything. For a truly one-of-a-kind purse, though, I suppose it’s a fair price to pay.
