The bucket shape, which I am seeing a lot of this Spring season, looks bohemian in both a 70’s sense and also in a modern boho sort of a way. The choice of slightly textured navy leather adds to this modern classic vibe. The shiny gold hardware really stands out against the blue backdrop, and reminds me of the super-chic Etienne Aigner purses of the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Despite its bohemian appeal, there is something classic about this bag that would make it work equally at the office or on weekends. The front layered leather detail is interesting and adds volume. The best part of the bag, and its defining feature, I think, is the small outer side pouch. What could be more convenient for stowing your keys and subway pass? 

The handle is one part of the bag that I have any misgivings about. I truly love the look of it, but it is definitely made to carry by hand, and I do wonder if a woman who packs this baby to the brim might get tired of all that hand holding. Also, I wish that the interior of the bag had some organizational design, as this shape lends itself to having a lot of things lost at the bottom.

Forget the new breed. Classic supermodels are the flavor of the month as our favorite designers release their spring/summer advertising campaigns. Christy T’s done Bally, Kate Moss is modeling for Versace, and now Claudia Schiffer has put her face to Salvatore Ferragamo’s new line.

And what a face it is. As she steadily approaches 40 Claudia’s still not showing even a hint of a crease or wrinkle. I’m jealous!

Claudia may look fab, but her clutch takes the oversized trend a little too far in my opinion. Can you imagine lugging such a large purse around at your next party? Salvatore should have just added a strap and made it a shoulder bag, because it’s just as bulky. But I can’t fault the color. The bold citrus green is perfect for the new season. And legendary exotics like this snakeskin never go out of style.

This ad campaign is the brainchild of Stephen Gan, who’s stepped out from behind the lens to play artistic designer. Famed fashion photographer Mario Testino has brought Gan’s vivid vision to life with saturated hues which have me craving a Mediterranean vacation, or at least warmer weather!

I always think of fashion designers as being creative, outlandish, totally commited to their art, but a little scatter-brained at times. I’m sure Project Runway is most likely to blame for that skewed impression, but it’s just what I always picture.

Well, when I came across this hilarious photo of one of my favorite clothing and handbag designers Diane von Furstenberg, I couldn’t help but laugh and think that it confirmed all of my assumptions. Deep in discussion on her cell phone while hanging upside down with her legs in butterfly position, Diane is the epitome of a creative soul.

Forget Whitney and Olivia’s mind-numbing chatter at DVF’s New York headquarters on MTV’s The City. I want to see more of Diane von Furstenberg herself with her quirky personality and odd multi-tasking. Now that would be an interesting reality show!

The Sidney satchel by Francesco Biasia combines the best of both worlds when it comes to a sunny weather handbag. It has that just-came-from-the-beach look along with less-casual details that enable you to wear it with a sundress and heels.

It’s the combo of canvas and leather with decorative accents that gives it versatility. While I usually picture bags like the Allison or Misty May when I think of Francesco Biasia, the Sidney is a nice change for the spring.  

The striped canvas print comes in three colors, but the pink and yellow ‘Vanilla’ option is a fun, bright choice. I realize that a stripe might not seem as functional in a wardrobe as a solid, but we gals have to have some variety, right? A colorful stripe can add some pop to a simple outfit like a t-shirt with jeans. Don’t underestimate its function in your wardrobe.

One of the great features about the Sidney is the double compartment. Sometimes I think there aren’t enough satchels that have this extremely convenient detail. The two sides are separated by a zippered center section with a few pockets on each side for more storage. The casual Sidney satchel retails for $238.

Sometimes it’s the older fashion houses that come up with something new and surprising. Celine is almost always classic and sophisticated, but I am impressed by their more youthful, cheerful approach to design on the Blossom Pocket Tote.

The bold yellow is extraordinary, and I can’t help loving it, despite my stodgy affection for dark colors, because they took things a step farther than bold and coordinated the yellow with a lovely pale grey and then added a dark brown strap. With this combination, I can definitely see this bag popping with some of my favorite dark ensembles. 

The pockets on the front of the bag are my favorite detail. They are one part sleek, with the shiny silver hardware and sophisticated design, and two parts adorable with their oversized, full frontal placement. I also really like the small flap top closure with the press stud fastening and the showy clasp.

At 13″ x 9″ x 6″, the Blossom Pocket Tote is great for everyday, not too big to carry, but big enough to hold your PDA, keys, and more than your average daily load of cosmetics. The dual rolled handles have a drop of 5″, which makes them a little too short for your shoulder, but you can always clip the adjustable long strap on if you need to.

Overall, I love the punchy use of color on this bag, and think it fits in well with this Spring’s freshest styles.

Britney Spears must be in vogue again, because she’s just been picked up as the face of Candie’s. Sure, it’s not exactly Louis Vuitton or Prada, but the junior fashion line sold exclusively at Kohl’s seems like a good fit for this comeback queen.
