Sometimes less really is more, and that’s definitely the case with Furla’s Giglio Shopper. It doesn’t take a lot of risks, but there’s something so refreshing about its simplicity.

A little contrast stitching is the only embellishment needed for the spicy red leather exterior. The calfskin is glazed, toning it down and making it more accessible than a vibrant scarlet or crimson. Some might accuse it of playing safe, but I see this shade being much easier to pair with the average wardrobe.

The silver Furla nameplate might please label lovers, but personally I think it looks a little distracting. Thankfully it’s easy enough to remove.

The shopper’s interior is a generous space with plenty of room for your daily essentials and any impulse buys. I’d probably have appreciated a few more organizational features, but the large zip pocket and cell phone slip do their best to keep the clutter at bay.

The rolled leather handles combine practicality and style. They integrate seamlessly with the rest of the purse, unlike so many straps that appear tacked on. But it’s their comfort that will really impress after a long day at the mall!

Is it just me or does Christy Turlington seem to be everywhere lately? She recently starred in Bally’s steamy spring and summer ads, and now she’s rumored to be the top choice for Yves Saint Laurent’s fall campaign.

Of course, she’s not the only one whose face is popping up again. The once-reigning supermodels of past decades have returned with a vengeance. Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, and Jerry Hall are just a few famous (and miraculously ageless) modeling faces reappearing of late. 

The up-and-coming models and the starlets had better beware. These women have returned to claim their fair share of the fashion ads. Though many brands are still opting for celebrities, like Katie Holmes for Miu Miu or Victoria Beckham for Emporio Armani, I’m glad to see that the supermodels still have their place.

More news to come regarding the rumors of Christy Turlington for YSL. For now, we’ll just have to satisfy our model obsession with Claudia Schiffer and Ferragamo.

It’s no surprise that Big Buddha has yet another affordable but cute synthetic leather purse. There’s nothing that makes the Samantha satchel stand out significantly, but it’s a nice choice for a decently sized handbag with stylish details.

The pebbled texture gives the Samantha’s manmade material a slightly more authentic look. I’m not always a fan of metallic leather, but this one’s color is just brown enough to not be too flashy. The dark brown trim softens the color as well.

If you’d rather have an all over brown satchel, the Samantha also comes in a chocolate brown with the same dark trim. The colors still contrast a little, but the result is less harsh than with the gold material.

The slouchy shape of this Big Buddha bag is casual and laid-back, as most purses from the brand are. The front drawstring isn’t functional but adds to that vibe. You’ll also find some trendy studs on the handle anchors and sides for extra detail.

The Samantha’s interior is fully lined and contains a few pockets. On the back of the satchel, there’s a convenient zippered pocket for coins or other small items. This Big Buddha bag retails for $85.

This sexy metal mesh purse from Felix Rey is bound to look familiar. Modern style icons Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan have carried it, and it’s graced the pages of InStyle and US Weekly.

It’s no wonder that glitzy gals like Paris and Lindsey have fallen for this beautiful bag. The mesh detail falls in a feminine ruffled pattern, which almost seems at odds with the edgy metallic finish. It’s these contradictions which make this Felix Rey handbag so alluring, and so versatile. I can imagine it working equally well with an elegant evening dress or a pair of well-worn jeans.

Felix Rey has sacrificed style for comfort with the shoulder strap. A chain would have been the obvious choice to coordinate with all that metal, but instead there’s a wide leather strap. The look might not quite gel, but something tells me you’ll be grateful for the cushy leather.

Since it’s called a clutch, you’d probably expect the shoulder strap to be removable. It’s not, which makes this bag’s classification a little questionable. If you’re looking for a hand-held purse ladies, this isn’t it.

Unlike so many celebrity favorites, the Felix Rey Ruffle Metal Mesh Clutch is actually affordable. The $278 retail value is a great price for starstruck shoppers and bargain hunters alike.

Fashion collaborations seem to be all over the place right now. While we wait for the Yves Saint Laurent exclusive collection that’s set to debut on Net-a-Porter tomorrow, more news of fashion’s big names joining together rolls in.

Quirky and fabulous designer Betsey Johnson is lending her legendary style and name for a new line. She has teamed up with Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim for a capsule collection called Betsey Johnson Archive.

The pieces have been pulled from the designer’s past collections and updated with some current trends. For example, one black jacket has the funky, furry “gorilla arms” that were so prevalent at fall runway shows such as Dolce & Gabbana. At least these aren’t hot pink.

The 35-piece, modernized-vintage Betsey Johnson Archive collection will debut at select Betsey Johnson and Opening Ceremony stores in the fall.

This roomy shopper does more than just provide ample space for toting things around. The Nine West Justine bag combines faux leather and just a hint of cotton webbing for a contemporary casual look.

I find the result of the combination appealing. The addition of cotton material on the front pocket and double handles is subtle but enough to give the Justine a little more style than a simple leather or synthetic leather handbag.

As many other accessories this spring, this Nine West bag comes in several bright colors including this denim blue, yellow, orange, and white. Of course, there’s also the inevitable basic black option as well. Even the simple black is still somewhat unique with the webbing.

With its contrasting white top-stitching, blue definitely has a denim jeans look that adds to the casual factor. Personally, I’d prefer for the Justine’s hardware to be a little more muted than the shiny silver tone it has. Perhaps a brushed metal would have been a better choice.

Even so, Nine West did a great job with this one. Besides its easy casual style, we can’t forget the practicality of the Justine. With exterior and interior pockets, you’ll be able to fit plenty of stuff in this shopper bag. Style and space for $79 is a pretty good deal.
