The Bubble bag is the latest “It” handbag to come from the iconic fashion house of Versace. Halle Berry and Fergie have been snapped carrying the tamer nude and beige versions, but I prefer this vibrant orange purse. The shade accents the Bubble’s unique texture, and satisfies the current trend for all things 80s.

It’s that texture which gives the Bubble its name. The perforated leather is gathered and quilted, creating a cute squishy look which just begs to be touched. The texture continues through the handles, which are plaited for comfort and style. Signature rings on the sides of the bag mimic the tasseled zipper pull with their almost psychedelic concentric circles. There’s a lot going on, which will probably alienate conservative tastes, but I believe that somehow it all works.

The generous interior is roomy without being overwhelming thanks to the abundance of pockets. Zip and slip pouches are on hand to store your personal technology, loose change, and other little essentials. They’re all trimmed with leather to resist wear and tear for years to come.

It is lovely, but as with so many “It” bags the Bubble is out of the reach of many of us. With a retail value of $3440, eBay’s the only option for most purse lovers!

No one would ever accuse Timmy Woods of being a shrinking violet. Her weird and wonderful handbags are always eye-catching, even if they don’t suit everyone’s tastes. Ordinarily I can get swept up in her off the wall creative vision, but the Lip Sync purse has me scratching my head.

The black and white lace body is reminiscent of the kind of clutch your grandmother would carry. Its vintage look would have appeared elegant with a delicate chain strap attached, but instead we have these lurid wooden lips.

Bright scarlet lips may be Timmy Woods trademark, but I’m still not sure that explains their appearance here. This vibrant detail is so outrageous it seems at odds with the purse’s quiet reserved nature. Sometimes different styles can work together to create something new and daring, but here it just looks a little silly.

But the Lip Sync purse isn’t without charm. While most Timmy Woods accessories ask you to scale back, there’s enough room here to carry your phone, keys, and other daily essentials. You’d never call it oversized, but compared to other Timmy Woods designs it’s downright luxurious.

The Lip Sync is also relatively affordable with a retail value of $350. If you’re looking to make a statement on a budget this could be your purse. I’m just not exactly sure what carrying this handbag would say!

This bag is totally hip-to-be-square. All of the nerdy conservative details of the Shelby add up into something that’s really fabulous, and totally not the sum of its parts. 

The tan is the faded reddish brown of wallpaper and side-paneled station wagons. They’re calling this color nutmeg, which I think is just fine. The geometry of the squarish shape is set off by the flashy hardware. The side straps serve no discernible purpose, but they look really good.

At 18″ x 13″ x 6″, this bag is a great size to lug just about everything around with you. I think I you might be able to squeeze a small laptop into it, and it would be a really extraordinary briefcase with the luggage-styled seams and tag.

With only a 5″ handle drop, the Shelby is going to be hard to fit over your shoulder, and, at this size, it really should come with a detachable strap. Also, the Shelby runs $2,365 retail, which is a little out of league for a lot of people right now. 

Overall, I really love this bag, but the impracticality of the handles and the price tag are definitely repellents.

I’ll admit that I’m surprised by Christian Siriano’s quickly rising popularity. After recently reporting a doubling of sales for his brand, this Project Runway favorite continues on the up and up.

Though he previously only revealed that there were “ten great new stores” picking up his latest collection, I’m impressed to learn that one of them is retail giant Saks Fifth Avenue.

I think he’s fast approaching the status of officially shaking off the label “up-and-coming” with that kind of success in his pocket. When your designs are retailing in a store that also carries the likes of Versace and Dior, you’ve made it in the fashion world.

I think what surprises me most is the fact that Siriano’s talent is showing up everywhere nearly a year after winning the fourth season of the popular show. And he’s not stopping with Saks either. This fierce talent has several other gigs in the works including creating costume designs for an upcoming Uma Thurman film. 

That’s pretty darn good for a reality show/talent contest winner of a show that’s not even on the air right now because of nasty legal battles. I’d like to see one of Tyra Banks’ Next Top Model ingenues come even close to Siriano’s current fashion fame.

I realize that bright, bold colors are in this season, but this multi-colored Rampage bag takes the trend just a bit too far for me. With its yellow, turquoise, and orange stripes, the Amber tote is more circus than chic, in my opinion.

Don’t misunderstand me though. I’m a fan of striped handbags. I just think the multicolored Amber is a little loud. Something like the Francesco Biasia Sidney canvas and leather combo is less flashy and more understated. Since stripes are already eye-catching, rainbow bright colors can tend to take the look to a gaudy level.

Thankfully, this Rampage tote is available in more than just this color combo. The canvas handbag also comes in single-color, leather-like stripes including solid turquoise, orange, and even a dark brown. The most classic choice would probably be the brown option, which has a nice dark/light contrast.

The Amber has rolled handles that each appear to be large circles that weave through the top of each side of the tote to create straps. The simplistic style of the detail, which minimizes the amount of hardware, is appealing considering the striking nature of the handbag.

If you’re craving color this spring, one of the Rampage Amber color options will probably suit you. If not, it might work better for you as a fun beach tote. Personally, I’d reserve this one for accessorizing a swimsuit cover-up and flip-flops.

Animal print seems to be everywhere these days, but if you’re looking for something just a little bit different this Sahara Print Clutch from Roberto Cavalli is worth a second glance.

The regular stripes and spots we’re used to are replaced with a design that’s a little more abstract and irregular. The African animal influence is unmistakable, but it’s been taken from the wild to the urban jungle.

The clutch’s metallic gold trim is the ideal highlight for the patterned satin’s earthy tones. The gold-toned chain strap won’t do your shoulders any favors, but it adds to this purse’s rich appearance.

But Roberto Cavalli doesn’t stop there: he overdoses on the glitz. The crystal encrusted “RC” logo plate is obnoxiously ostentatious. It’s a shame, because without that this clutch could have been so elegant.

While some struggling designers are renting out their retail spaces until things turn around for them, Gucci is moving forward and moving in … at least into their redesigned flagship location on London’s Sloane Street. Like the brand-new Armani/Fifth Avenue spot in New York City, Gucci’s newly renovated boutique contains impressive architectural details and glamorous details.

This is now the fifth Gucci store in the world to exhibit the design concept of creative director Frida Giannini. Though hints of the previous rosewood and marble decor remain, the new design includes bronzed accents, ribbed glass, and smoked mirrors reminiscent of the Art Deco era.

“I wanted to amplify the luxurious and intimate sensibility of the Gucci boutique environment to create an aesthetic that complements the history of the House, but at the same time ensures that it is thoroughly contemporary” explains Giannini.

As magnificent as the surroundings of the boutique are now, the collections are still the highlight of the location. Giannini even created a limited edition collection of handbags for the opening. The Sloaney Bag collection is meant to pay tribute to London’s glory days in the 1970s and is available only at the Gucci Sloane Street boutique.

Anyone familiar with Jessica Simpson’s brand won’t be surprised by this Dresscode tote. I think I could easily recognize the company’s signature look on it from a line-up of handbags (if that ever existed). As far as Jessica Simpson purses go, this one’s a prime example of everything the brand offers.

The Dresscode tote is made from a durable coated material that would probably withstand a lot of everyday wear and tear. Although the print looks somewhat abstract from afar, it’s actually a mish-mash of the Jessica Simpson autograph-style logo that usually appears on the bottom of their handbags.

The letters are less noticeable on the black version and the natural option, shown here. If you go with the pinkish coral color, you’ll be able to see the print a little more, though it’s still not overly obvious.

As with most totes, the Dresscode has double shoulder handles, but these are rolled for extra comfort. The coordinating color of the straps continues on leather-like strips that run down the sides of the handbag. Less noticeable are the razor thin vertical panels that barely peek through the front and back of the tote.

Though I’m not always a fan of logo-prints, I appreciate the abstract quality of this one and the fact that Jessica Simpson has kept the other details like hardware and handles sleek and contemporary as to not compete with the pattern. The Dresscode bag also comes in hobo, satchel, and shopper sizes as well.

Gucci has responded to Chanel’s Segway with its own two-wheeler: a luxury cruiser bicycle.

The bike sports Gucci accents all over, but it’s still surprisingly tasteful. The bronze metal frame is the ideal complement to the chocolate brown Guccissima leather seat, handlebars, seat pack, and pannier. I don’t even mind the white signature logo and Gucci text on the pannier. It’s remarkably restrained, and an elegant and eco-friendly way to get around.

But there’s always a catch, right? And like so many Gucci accessories, it’s the price. At $6365, this bike is out of the reach of all but heiresses and Hollywood celebs. And let’s face it: they aren’t likely to want to break a sweat pedaling about when they could simply hop in a limo.

So the rest of us are left wondering what on earth justifies the price. Sure the seat pack looks like a beautiful handbag, and the leather touches are a little more luxurious than anything on my own bicycle. But at least I can happily hop on my two-wheeler without worrying that I’ll blow a tire!
