Here at Bag Bunch we’re longtime fans of the eco-friendly handbags created by Matt & Nat. Now the creative mind behind the brand, Inder Bedi, has launched a new environmentally-friendly accessories line dubbed Samsara.

The unusual moniker is a Sanskrit word meaning rebirth. Samsara’s development is clearly that, with the focus not just on eco-friendly fashions, but socially responsible ones.

All Samsara accessories are made from vegan leather with a lush pebbled texture. The collection is diverse, including spacious day bags, smaller clutches, practical wallets, and even belts. The accessories feature practical, yet sophisticated styling. With prices ranging between $40 and $155, they’re also a little cheaper than Matt & Nat purses.

Samsara will also donate one dollar for every bag sold to a non-profit organization. The brand’s profits will be shared between the international aid charity Enough, environmental group EarthSave, animal welfare organization WSPA, and the Canadian Women’s Foundation. Public votes on the website will determine which charities receive the biggest share at the end of the year.

After many rumors, Louis Vuitton has finally confirmed that they have once again signed Madonna, Her Majesty of Pop, to appear in an advertising campaign.

After starring in a saloon-inspired spread for spring/summer 09 campaign, Queen Madge is back at work with Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs for the new pics. Photographer Steven Meisel will shoot the ads, which will showcase the brand’s fall 09 products.

The only question that remains unanswered is whether or not Madonna’s twenty-something boy toy and male model, Jesus Luz, will join her for the ad campaign. One rumor, indicating that Marc Jacobs is petitioning for Luz’s work permit, seems to suggest that he will.

It stars a little anime-styled girl, who looks like she’s a few years off affording her own LV purse, walks into a Louis Vuitton store. When she drops her cell phone the magic begins, and she’s submerged into Murakami’s cute and colorful creative universe.

This video shows us a new side to Louis Vuitton, one that leaves behind its traditional staid sophistication for child-like energy. But perhaps it’s not so surprising. Before this we saw Louis Vuitton revamping its rainbow-colored Stephen Sprouse line. Perhaps Louis is shaking off that stuffy old image and stepping into a fresh world of fun!

I only hope so. Those tired old brown and tan monogrammed purses are so last century!

It also fits brilliantly with the bold pattern trend reminiscent of 60’s enthusiasm. Free love on the beach, anyone? Thankfully sand isn’t too much of an issue, as this baby zips shut, protecting your belongings from harm.

It’s definitely a bag for just a couple of seasons, packed full of trends. You won’t be in style come next summer, no doubt, and may even wonder what on earth you were thinking! For now, however, the soft beige trim and pink exterior are very much in fashion, so go wild!

When it comes to details, Betsey Johnson seems to tend toward the idea of the more, the merrier. The designer’s handbags are always meant to stand out in a crowd and make a bold statement.

This Tie-Breaker Flap Tote does just that with its abundance of embellishments and bold color choices. Though I wouldn’t call ivory a dramatic color by any means, it becomes more than basic when paired with several bright gold details. With everything from gold trim to chainlink, this handbag is anything but understated.

Of course, Betsey Johnson wouldn’t just have this color combo as your only option. The Tie-Breaker comes in a two other choices, even bolder than this one. The tote is also available in gray with orange trim or black with hot pink. Any of the options will make a statement, but the ivory is probably the most versatile for a wardrobe.

The simplicity of this color combination is pretty, and the brightness of the gold color makes the details more noticeable. There are quite a few to notice, too. The two exterior side pockets are cinched with a bow-tie. The front flap displays the signature logo and is accentuated with a gold zipper. Last, but not least, the double leather handles are woven through chain link nearly all the way to the top.

This Botkier James Satchel has been hot with the starlets this spring. It’s been seen on Blake Lively, Katherine Heigl, Michelle Trachtenberg and most recently Megan Fox, as seen here.

You can tell from the picture of Ms. Fox carrying the bag through Whole Foods that this satchel is a lot longer and leaner than the product photos give away. It looks much more casual and chic on an arm.

Drawstrings and zig zag pleat details contribute to the low-key vibe, making this a great tote for errands on the weekend or lunch with the girls.

There are two diagonal zip pockets on the front of the bag, and an inner zip pocket and slip pocket with an attached key chain to keep you organized.

While it may be casual, Italian leather and heavy antiqued hardware belie the quality and craftsmanship of Botkier. You’re paying for a bag that will last and you’re definitely getting it. But, if you want to pay that price for a status symbol, this might not be the bag for you. Lots of people know Botkier and aficionados might recognize this satchel, but it is not a logo-bedazzled show piece. It is more of a workhorse of a wardrobe.

When I first saw this Versace Venita Bow bag, my immediate thoughts were, “Um, what exactly is going on here?” I’m not trying to be a smartass or anything, but seriously, I just didn’t get it. Then I tried to figure it out, and came to the initial conclusion that the bag was made of seatbelts. Oops.

So, if it wasn’t already obvious to you, this bag is not made out of seatbelts. It is made out of leather, even the straps. And although my first response was one of confused horror, since then the bag has grown on me a bit. I’m pretty sure that it won’t be the It bag of any season, but there’s a woman out there to love this bag.

The woven leather material is soft and luxurious, and the metallic strands add a touch of glimmer. The straps give what is already an unusually shaped bag a central focal point. The layered look is interesting. I feel like it might be more successful in a different color, as the fleshy beige makes all those straps look just a bit creepy.

The handle has a sort of covered steering wheel look that made it sensible for me to assume that the rest of the bag was made of seatbelts. Right? I think the handle might work on something more minimal, but here, it’s just another distracting detail to add to the rest. While I can’t say that I hate this bag, it does have a sort of bizarre charm, I’m just not exactly sure who it’s right for or what they might wear it with.

Zaftique has taken its Allegro and given it some casual twists to create the Metro drawstring bag.

The Metro still has the same distinct barrel shape and practical long handles, but it’s the details which make this more grab and go than uptown chic. The first is the fabric. Where the Allegro has snakeskin-looking trim and a sexy patent sheen, the Metro has a woven cloth fabric accented with regular leather. It might seem like a step down, and on a purely superficial level it is. But unlike most Zaftique purses, the leather trim is genuine cowhide.

Another casual touch is the Metro’s drawstring top. This feature accentuates the purse’s natural slouch, while offering added security. But with that security comes frustration. I like to know that my precious cargo won’t go anywhere, but does it really take a top zipper, a magnetic closure, and a drawstring to achieve this? If I was to wrestle with every closure whenever my cell phone rang, I’d surely go mad.

The Metro’s casual charm is finished with contrast topstitching. The white cotton really pops against the coffee brown and black bags, giving them a more country feel than their urban name suggests.

At $59 retail, the Metro is hardly expensive. Yet it’s the priciest of all Zaftique purses. I suppose the genuine leather justifies the cost, but it hardly looks like a top-of-the range handbag. I’d opt for the chicer Allegro or even the Jaunty and enjoy the spare change!
