The Hendrix Mini Hobo is yet another prime example of how Treesje always manages to combine classic and contemporary for the modern gal. Though not everyone gravitates toward handbags like the Hendrix, it’s great for women who like a little edge in their style.

It’s not as rock-and-roll as, say, some Betsey Johnson purses, but the Hendrix has a few details that are meant to kick up that type of vibe. The vertical zippers on the front are meant to catch your eye, but Treesje made the feature functional by adding pockets.

On this mini hobo’s top half, the soft leather material has a unique topstitch pattern that creates a quilted look. It’s an unexpected detail that adds quite a bit of character, in my opinion. Though the Hendrix also comes in neutral gray and black, it’s on the chartreuse yellow color that the stitching is most noticeable.

The interior is lined in a simple grosgrain fabric. Since it’s a mini, this Treesje hobo won’t hold more than the essentials and just a handful more. However, the chic style will work well with many different outfits and easily take you from daytime to a night out. The Hendrix Mini Hobo retails for $595.

Bally has a great collection of handbags with modern square handles. In fact, the cute handles on this one are nearly identical to the ones on the Pemba Pouchette, but the Pachina is a little more grown up.

I guess the Pachina could even be considered an older sister of the Pachi Tote, but there are several unqiue details on the Pachina that make it slightly more appealing to me.

For starters, on those aforementioned contemporary handles, I like how they make a complete square that combines metal and tortoise shell for a chic look. Hanging off one handle is a chain and logo medallion.

The edges of the rounded-edge rectangular are topstitched for a clean, crisp finish. The interior has a fantastic middle zippered compartment that separates the inside into three areas, which is always a practical touch.

Just in case you’re worried about the comfort factor of those cutout handles, Bally also endowed the Pachina Tote with a longer chain and leather strap to throw on your shoulder for days that carrying it in your hands isn’t realistic. The Bally Pachina retails for $1,190.

I’ve been enamored lately with Maddalena Marconi’s eye-catching evening purses, but they’ve missed the mark here. Fringed bags might be big this season, but they should never look like this.

All the right ingredients are there. This purse should have glammed up the popular boho-chic trend. But quite frankly, this looks like Cousin It from The Addams Family wearing a tiara.

I can’t fault any one element. The hand-beaded light gold fringe should have been stunning. I can’t think of a better complement than the canary yellow and white Swarovski crystals adorning the vintage frame.

Sure it’s on the small size, but that’s almost a given for evening bags. The sexy satin lining makes the small stature easier to forgive. It’s finished with brocade edging for an extra bit of luxury.

The parts are perfect, but the combination falls short. It might be a conversation starter, but I can think of better ways to spend $1379.

United Kingdom-based online fashion store Asos is bucking current economic trends, more than doubling its sales in the last year.

To celebrate, the proudly British company is toasting its heritage with a new limited edition handbag range. The Made in Great Britain collection sees Asos team with some of the country’s hottest designers. Liberty and Thomas Pink are amongst the creative mind collaborating with the e-tailer on the range.

“We are celebrating that we are a UK company. We have had fun with it but it has a serious message,” said Asos’ chief executive Nick Robertson.

He’s predicting the patriotic purses will be a big hit with the website’s growing international fan base. Asos’ global sales rose 173% year on year in the last month, an amazing feat considering the current economic downturn.

Limited edition Made in Great Britain bags will be available exclusively through Asos’ online store this summer.

Grommets tend to be an accent, giving a purse a little rock and roll edge without dominating the design. Hype has bucked that trend with the Riba, creating a tote that takes grommets out of the background and plants them firmly center stage.

Quite simply, this tote has grommets to spare. All that hardware is bound to polarize bagistas. Personally, I like the quirky charm of these oversized rings, but I think they needed to be the only feature. But with belt accents and a drawstring all fighting for attention, the Riba starts to look a little busy.

The drawstring combines with a magnetic snap closure to keep your belongings safely inside. I do worry about smaller items getting lost in the bottom of such a tall purse, but at least there are plenty of zip and slip pockets in the side wall to keep those essentials just where you left them.

The dual handles are rolled for comfortable hand-held carrying. But they’re really too short for even petite princesses to tote over their shoulder. Thankfully there’s a longer attachable shoulder strap available for girls on the go.

If you’re still trying to make your mind up about the Riba, the ink black bag may be more to your taste. While the silver grommets pop against the chocolate leather, the black purse has more muted hardware.

I’m the first to admit that I have a love/hate/love relationship with Versace. For years, I lived in Miami, where there are tall, tan, blonde women everywhere just dripping in the stuff. Sometimes I love the flashy Italian label, and sometimes I think they take too much a little too far.

But, seriously, are you kidding me with this clutch? It’s like polished metal and glass perfection. Okay, so it’s a little gaudy, but it’s supposed to be. It’s gaudy and gorgeous, and totally discolicious, and I want one.

The clutch itself is made out of thin slivers of mirror with patent leather trim. I love the sleek rectangular shape, it really emphasizes the shine on the mirrors. The stud detail on the edges is an amazing touch that enhances the metal look of the clutch.

The link attachments that hold the bag to the strap are works of art in their own right, and I adore the sophisticated snake chain link of the strap itself. I usually hate big logos in the middle of purses, but you know what? This thing is so shiny and over-the-top that I just look at that logo and think, “Okay, well, why not?”

At $1,815, this is not a recession-friendly clutch, but if you have the change for it, I say this is a piece worth investing in.

The Rampage Crystal handbag has qualities that remind me of both the Miu Miu Matellasse and the Chloe Heloise totes. Although this Rampage bag is surely a far cry from the designer versions, it’s a much more affordable option when you’re looking for this particular style.

There are several competing features on the Crystal, but the combination of them all is unique and interesting. The patent sheen on the top and bottom trim is eye-catching, but the real focal point is the pleating that encircles the handbag.

The tight pleats are only broken up by leather-like strips that run vertically from the handles an connect to the bottom panel with silver rings. The amount of detail surrounding the satchel makes it a little busy for me, especially when combined with the glossy sheen, but the Crystal’s design is still a classic style with a twist that many women will find appealing.

In comparison to the cash you’d have to spend to get a Miu Miu or Chloe, this Rampage bag is very affordable ringing in just shy of $100. If you’re wishing it were bigger, look for the Crystal Tote, which has a little more room than the satchel. This inexpensive handbag comes in brown, black, moss green, coral orange, and teal blue.
