Marvin Traub’s recent comment about breathing new life into Carlos Falchi is beginning to take form. Following the recent purchase of the company, involving Traub and Windsong Brand, the luxury label appears to be trying to turn things around with a new venture.

The luxury brand, known for their exotic leather handbags ranging from $400 to nearly $5,000, is taking their swanky style to Target. It’s no surprise to see a major designer team up with the retail giant as they’ve worked with everyone from Isaac Mizrahi to Alexander McQueen.

I’m not sure if Carlos Falchi’s faux snakeskin handbags will make as much of a splash as they’re hoping, though. If an international crowd is what they’re seeking to expand the brand’s reputation, Target doesn’t seem quite right as the place to start.

However, if the goal is to get the designer’s name and styles into the hands of budget-loving fashionistas, a Target diffusion line is a great choice. Either way, the company is sure to get some much-needed buzz, which is probably the real goal anyway.

The Carlos Falchi for Target line of faux snakeskin handbags will hit Target stores from October 11 through December 27.

There is a lot to like about the Vitalio Vera Large Zane Hobo. Unfortunately, it is hidden beneath a few layers of a questionable taste level.

Let’s start with the good. I actually rather like the color combination on this bag and the wide stripes don’t bother me at all. It has a cute hobo shape that gets wider at the bottom to fit more stuff, always a plus. So in form and structure we’re on the right path.

But then all the details pop up. In classic over-detailed fashion, if you removed the logo fob, tassel, and decorative contrasting side buckles, it would go a long way towards streamlining this look. As is, it’s too cluttered.

The big logo clasp on the buckle closure (which is probably pretty inconvenient, by the way) looks a little tacky, as does the simulated goatskin. It could easily have been an original choice if it didn’t turn out looking a bit too plastic-like in the picture.

This might be a good pick for a young girl in your life, or a Kathy Van Zeeland fan. While Kathy Van Zeeland bags are usually of higher quality construction, this bag does have their flair for fobs and tassels everywhere.

I’m a huge fan of Tory Burch. Besides being inspired by her prioritized personal and business life, this American designer’s style is right up my alley.

This Meagan Tote is a fabulous example of Tory Burch’s versatile style, but it’s not the first time I’ve seen something like this. The Meagan is nearly identical in overall style to the Brewster Clutch, which caught my eye not long ago.

Everything I originally liked about the Brewster is incorporated into the Meagan’s design, just on a larger scale with a few extra details. The cobalt blue color is beautiful when contrasted with the light brown leather trim. The screw-head studs that accentuate the front leather strips are just as stylish on the Meagan as they are on the Brewster.

With its double leather handles and typical tote-sized interior, this handbag is obviously going to be more convenient for everyday use than the Brewster. The squared-shaped handle rings are a great addition to the design, too.

I’m sure it’s no surprise that the Meagan’s retail price is higher than the Brewster’s since it is a larger bag. However, at $495, this tote’s price is consistent with most of Tory Burch designer prices. With its unique look and practical coated canvas material, though, it seems well worth the expense.

Next week an exciting new handbag store will officially open its doors in Cranleigh, United Kingdom. At Exchange @ Easton Design Studio, fashionistas can trade in their used purses for brand new bags from the Easton Collection.

Customers receive a trade-in price for their current bag, which they use against the value of a new purse, much like trading in a car.  Just like a car, the trade-in value depends on the condition and the mileage!

“Although we sell many different handbag brands, with prices from just £18 for a fashion handbag, we still get customers who don’t come in because they think we only sell ‘expensive’ designer handbags,” explained store owner Shona Easton. “Exchange @ Easton Design Studio will offer our customers a great range of quality secondhand items at really affordable prices, which we hope will be particularly helpful in the current economic climate.”

Jimmy Choo may be more famous for peep-toe shoes than purses, but if the label continues to create revolutionary designs like the Mona that might just change.

The Mona manages to combine chic city style with functionality. Khaki patent leather complements ivory suede and shiny gold hardware. Studs and vertical zip pockets add edge and a little more practicality.

It’s perfect for packrats, or girls who just want to let everyone know they’re carrying a Jimmy Choo original. But the real feature is that North West zip, which helps the bag expand and reveals the shiny gold nameplate.

The Mona may be a skinny Minnie, but that only adds to its style cred. It’s a little hard to look chic and sleek while carrying a bulky bag after all. You may need to leave those unwieldy items at home to maintain the slim profile, but there’s plenty of space for daytime essentials and some luxuries besides.

The only sticking point here is the price. At nearly $2000, this is clearly a case of paying for the Jimmy Choo name rather than the handbag itself. The leather and suede are lovely, but they’re not the exotics I’d expect for this kind of price tag.

There will always be those handbags that you’ll have to pack away with the rest of your summer clothes when fall hits. This Maxx New York Amazon Large Shoulder Bag is exactly the type of accessory that won’t last past the warm months but will provide plenty of style in summer.

Though the purse is made mostly from manmade material, it has quite a different look. The main body of the bag has the appearance of being constructed from woven straw with leather trim. It’s definitely a trompe l’oeil, however, since most of it is synthetic.

The Amazon’s amount of faux material makes me question its $190 retail price, but it does live up to the “large” in its name since it has undeniably roomy dimensions. It happens to be on sale right now, too, making it seem a bit more reasonable.

It also has a sturdy shape with practical features like exterior zippered pockets on the front and a flat bottom panel as well as decorative details like side panels and logo zipper pulls. The hidden magnetic closure opens to a lined interior with multiple pockets.

If you like the look of the Amazon but wish for something less large, Maxx New York has a smaller shopper bag in the same style.

Stella McCartney is known not only for her witty, downtown takes on classic designs, but also for her animal and eco-friendly business practices. In both of those ways, this gorgeous little clutch epitomizes her work.

Along with everything else that was popular in the 80’s, animal prints are definitely making a major comeback. They were everywhere on the Fall runways, and they’re starting to hit shelves in a major way. What I like about this clutch is that it subdues the zebra print by making it monochromatic. The pleats detail on the front break up the pattern of the print, but in a way that is interesting rather than distracting.

The simple rectangluar gold frame adds a touch of uptown shine to the matte fabric of the bag. The ball snap closure is sleek and feminine, and I love the delicate (and detachable) chain strap.

This is a fabulous clutch by a fabulous and responsible designer, and the only thing I wish were different about it is the price. At $515, it’s just not terribly recession friendly.

I find it a little difficult to justify spending nearly $130 on a backpack, but the Sleepaway is significant in size with tons of pockets, which might be worth the price if you need a bag this large. It also made of extremely sturdy ripstop nylon making it practical and long-lasting.

If the Sleepaway is too cutesy or bigger than what you’re looking for in a backpack, you might want to look at the LeSportsac Morgan Mini instead. It has a somewhat subtler print in a smaller package for a more affordable price. When you have a lot to lug around, though, the Sleepaway might be just the thing.
