Well, dramatic is a word that describes this Latico envelope clutch. With its bright and colorful stripes, this handbag makes quite a statement. Even in one of the solid color options, each choice seen in the different stripes, the result is still anything but subtle.

I can’t imagine too many outfits with which to pair this flashy little bag. You definitely won’t want it to compete with another bright pattern in an outfit. However, it could add a lot of pizazz when paired with something that has a simpler color palette.

The underside of the front flap on this eelskin clutch continues the leather stripe and closes with a magnetic snap. Like most handbags of this size, there’s not much space inside for items. You will find a zippered pocket to stash smaller things, though. You might not find this Latico clutch practical enough to spend $120 on it, but it just might be worth it if you’re looking for something unique.

The huge 21″ x 14″ x 5″ size is generous enough to fit every last paperback, coverup, bikini, and at least five bottles of sunscreen. The thick canvas material is durable and washable, and the fully lined interior makes it a little more luxurious than your average, everyday canvas tote.

The print on this shopped is a fabulous combination of spot dyed white and blue canvas with simple hand-drawn looking clouds overlaid. It has a carefree air that makes it ideal for summertime, but is sophisticated enough to carry off the beach.

My only qualm with the bag is the price. At $185, it’s just a little too much for a canvas tote. The design is great, the materials are good, but I’m just feeling fed up with simple cloth accessories that run you more than $100. Then again, if you have the cash and don’t mind the price tag, this is a great bag for all the great summer days to come.

Lauren Merkin has made a splash on the red carpet for her covetable clutches. Here she’s upsized her signature style to create the Frankie, a chic and versatile tote bag.

The glossy black exterior looks so chic with its contemporary curved quilting and subtle pleats. In fact, I had to double check that it wasn’t leather! The nylon may be gorgeous, but I still wonder why it hasn’t brought the cost down. $350 seems pricy for a synthetic purse, especially one from a fledgling designer.

Really that price is the only thing I can fault about this tote. The design is headturning without being too outlandish, ensuring it’ll stay in style for years to come (or until the nylon fabric fails). It’s generously sized, yet lightweight, so you won’t feel weighed down when the Frankie’s full. The soft sides make overstuffing a tempting proposition, but there are several zip and slip pockets to ensure your essentials never go astray.

This is one of those totes that can easily make the transition from long days in the office to after-work drinks to dinner with your latest beau. The nylon may not have the staying power of leather, but at least you’ll get plenty of use from the Frankie while it holds up!

Some of the hottest Hollywood celebrities are lending a hand (and a signature) to benefit charity, and they’re giving up their Salvatore Ferragamo handbags to accomplish it.

A-listers like Madonna, Demi Moore, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Eva Longoria-Parker (whose note you see pictured here) are donating their own signed Ferragamo handbags to benefit the rebuilding of L’Aquila, an Italian city severely damaged by an earthquake this year. The celebrity-signed bags are set to be sold on a special eBay site dedicated to the relief efforts.

All proceeds of the auction will go directly to the Global Giving Italy Earthquake Relief and Recovery Fund to support the rebuilding. The collection of purses will be available for bidding from June 3 to June 12.

To snag one of the famously pre-owned purses, including a white eel skin Ferragamo bag signed by Gwyneth, check in at the auction site starting Wednesday. If you’re not a fan of used handbags, you can also click here to donate directly to Global Giving and use your other cash for a brand-new Ferragamo like the Cabiria Satchel.

If you know of a chicer take on the straw bag for summer, please let me know because I am besotted with the Lulu Guinness Padded Straw Shell Clutch.

The black color elevates what could easily have looked like a Boardwalk souvenir from the Jersey shore to a fashionable piece. The shape was definitely a risk – a shell silhouette can look a bit cheap – but not under the stylish eye of Guinness. The lines are kept crisp and clean despite the nontraditional shape.

The detachable patent shoulder strap is a great idea and I generally think all clutches should have them. It allows you to mingle with a drink and still have your hands free for shaking and nabbing canapes off trays.

There is a pouch inside with a faux pearl and the embroidered phrase “The World Is Your Oyster.” Too cute.

On the down side, a seashell-shaped bag is never going to be your most practical option. So if you’re hoping to take out a wallet, cell phone and keys, you might have to bypass this beauty.

The name Prada usually renders mental images of high-end designs, fashionable runways, and maybe even Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestley in The Devil Wears Prada. For me, however, Prada always equals well-made, chic handbags.

That’s exactly how I’d describe this Prada Cervo Antik Bowler bag. Because of the brand name, you know undoubtedly that you’ll be getting excellent quality. After all, you’ll be paying for it with the handbag’s $1,500 retail price.

Anyone shopping for Prada would expect that kind of price tag, however. If you’ve got money burning a hole in your pocket and can afford to splurge on a purchase like this one, you won’t regret it. The Cervo Antik collection is definitely one that will stand the test of time when it comes to style.

Made from soft deerskin leather, this bowler bag is crafted to perfection with subtle pleating on the front and sides. This particular purple color might not be the most versatile, but the bowler comes in a few different shades to suit different tastes.

I like the simplicity of the design, which is something that I’ve come to expect from the brand. One of their other, more structured bowler bags, the Vitello Daino Bowler, is even more simple in looks than the Cervo Antik. They are equally stylish, but I do prefer the more relaxed look of this one. The worn-in looking leather is casual without being rustic.

I don’t really have any complaints about the Cervo Antik Bowler except that I might love it even more if it had a longer, detachable shoulder strap. It’s not really an issue, however, since the double rolled handles would provide plenty of carrying ease.

Business is not usually what I think of when I think Marc Jacobs. Not that his designs aren’t suitable in the office, they just aren’t particularly briefcase-y, you know?

That being said, this clutch is perfectly designed for its purpose, which is to keep papers and files organized and well-sheathed. And while it is perfectly business-like, it still retains the Marc Jacobs unique stamp of whimsy that makes his things so lovable.

The chic, simple shape is accented only by the demure logo-plate, upraised stitch detail, and sweet pleating on the front. It has to be the most feminine attache I have ever seen, without being floral or over-the-top. The smooth grained violet gray leather is subtle and luxurious, and would greatly complement the neutrals in your work wardrobe.

The only thing I’m not sure I love about is this clutch’s size. At 11″ x 8″ x .5″, it is only just big enough to stash average sized papers, and not thick enough to hold that many. Most folders will simple have to find another home. And its a little awkwardly shaped, without a handle, to carry as a clutch on its own.

So, while the clutch is lovely, it isn’t particularly versatile. But, if you only need it for a few important documents, it’s a sure way to carry them in signature Marc Jacobs style.
