Timmy Woods hits handbag gold again, with this artistically crafted wooden clutch.

Spot on for the tribal trend cited by Vogue as one of this season’s hottest looks, this solid wooden clutch features a delicate beaded charm on the highly polished front. The charm features a rose and gray-toned center section, with tassels of beads hanging down. It is very cute, very tribal, and very exotic.

The clutch itself is a simple but unusual design. In a deep chestnut colored wood, it has deeply curved corners and a smooth cylindrical shape. This allows the beaded handle and charm to really stand out, whilst still keeping the theme running throughout.

As with all Timmy Woods handbags, this is as much a work of art as it is a functional container. Consequently, practicality (i.e. size) is sacrificed in preference for darn good looks. That’s a small price to pay for a bag that will turn all heads and make an impression much bigger than it’s pint sized dimensions.

At $412, this is surprisingly good value for money. Impractical, sure, but compare this to generic designer bags that can cost much more for much less design. In high quality handbag circles, the price ain’t half bad!

Reed Krakoff is hardly a household name, but the Coach president and creative director may be about to step into the spotlight. Fashion Week Daily reports that Coach will develop a new brand around Mr. Krakoff.

The details are a little fuzzy at this point, but we know the names “Reed,” “Reed Krakoff,” and “RK” have all been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark office, along with a selection of custom logos.

It’s thought the trademark may be used for ready-to-wear fashions, leather goods, personal care products, or hotel and restaurant services. That’s a fairly diverse collection of ideas, so my guess is that no one really knows!

At this point Coach will only say that they always have new projects in development. Whatever it is, it’s bound to be exciting. Reed Krakoff has worked with Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilifger, so I’m sure he’s learned a thing or two about building a personal brand.

While tons of luxury brands are continuing to see drops in sales and having to make cutbacks in production, other labels are making attempts to stay afloat during the current fashion financial pickle. Some are even seeing the fruits of their labor with a rise in sales despite shoppers tightening their belts.

Mulberry is one of those companies that has seen a bit of increase in early summer sales. Not only has their discount factory outlet sales gone up by an impressive 45% since last year, but their regular-priced stores have also increased by 11%. Those are the kind of numbers that many other luxury brands would love to be reporting right now.

One of the things that Mulberry says attributed to the new numbers is their new Mitzy collection of handbags. The line is considered budget-friendly (however relative that term might be) when it comes to luxury labels. Instead of buying an ostrich leather Bayswater bag for over $3,000, you can opt for the mid-sized Mitzy messenger in pebbled leather for only $495. That’s a fairly significant range in pricing.

Godfrey Davis, chairman and chief executive of Mulberry, said: “Mulberry with its authentic and understated designs is striking a chord, not just in the UK, but also worldwide, because over-the-top extravagant consumption just isn’t in favour right now.”

Of course, don’t think that Mulberry will forget its luxury roots altogether. You can also purchase the Mitzy in ostrich for $3,150. At least they’ve got some variety to their pricing!

Painterly prints are all the rage this season. I, for one, am loving the look, which comes in many shapes and sizes including the fashionable Hayden-Harnett Pamela Dowell.

This Calvin Klein version of the trend is much sportier than the Pamela Dowell Ladybag but no less stylish, to be sure. It’s hard to believe that seemingly hand-painted brushstrokes are printed on polyester fabric. Yes, it’s cute and sporty, but it’s definitely practical beyond its easily cleaned material. As its name suggests, the Pocket Satchel has quite a few storage spaces for stashing things. There are a couple of bulbous pockets on the front to keep helpful items handy as well as a zippered interior pocket for important stuff. For even more practicality, the inside is lined in nylon.

The red print might be a tad too bold for you, which is why Calvin Klein provided two other options. The Pocket Satchel also comes in black and a dark purple color, both on a white background like the red. The regular retail price is $168, though you can currently get it on sale.

Matt & Nat’s stylish vegan handbags are enough to whip women into a frenzy. Just watch this video if you don’t believe me!

This footage was captured at the brand’s annual Bag Throwing, a brilliant and altruistic publicity stunt to celebrate their yearly sample sale. Matt & Nat designer Inder Bedi dropped plenty of purses down to the fashion-conscious women crowding below the brand’s Montreal offices.

The scenes are a little bit chaotic, but I can’t say I blame these bagistas one bit. With everyone feeling the credit crunch, the promise of free handbags is a little hard to resist. In fact, I’m surprised at how well behaved the women are. I thought for sure I’d see a little eye-gouging and hair-pulling! Following in the footsteps of many other musicians and actors, Ronnie Wood is starting his own fashion line. The Rolling Stones guitarist is joining Liberty of London for a collection of accessories and clothing.

The British store’s creative director, Tamara Salman, decided to work with the legendary rocker when his abstract artwork caught her attention. Wood’s collection will include men and women’s clothes and handbags featuring adaptions of his paintings.

“I wanted to work with Liberty of London because of the great tradition that Liberty has of artistic collaborations going back to the very early days when Liberty first opened,” says Wood.

The Ronnie Wood for Liberty of London collection is set to be launched in the fall.
