I doubt anyone would mistake this imitation for the real deal, but that doesn’t matter. It’s still an eye-catching finish, particularly in this croc ice shade.

The reptilian theme is carried on with a cute alligator accent near the base. The silvery creature is studded with large jewels for a little extra bling. It’s the sort of feature you’re likely to love or hate, and your take on it will probably decide whether you buy this bag or not!

The Ali is a fairly small bag by modern standards, with barely enough space for the essentials. Such a tiny interior needs little to keep you organized, so there’s just a slip pocket with a mirror inside. This is such a handy little extra for those emergency cosmetics applications!

Aaron Basha, whose infamous line of whimsical jewelry is known mostly for baby shoes and ladybug charms, has evidently passed down some of his whimsical designing personality to his daughter Regine.

Regine Basha’s recently launched handbag line, 2ENLIGHT10 (read: “to enlighten”), reveals a unique design sensibility similar to her father’s. There might not be any ladybugs on these bags, but one-of-a-kind is definitely a word I’d use to describe them. I’m talking about glowing, battery-operated clutches. 2ENLIGHT10’s website promises to make you stand out in a crowd, and I can see why … at least when you carry one of their designs at night.

Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers brand certainly has a look quite unlike others. These Tokyo-inspired designs seem to reflect the celebrity’s offbeat personality and music a little more than her slightly more grown-up L.A.M.B. brand.

Quite frankly, I’m not a huge fan of the whimsical, often juvenile prints that Harajuku Lovers favors for their handbags. However, the style suits plenty of other peoples’ taste, and the basic designs of the bags themselves are often quite practical. This Poppin satchel is a prime example of that combination.

Quirky print aside, the Poppin is decently sized handbag with enough storage compartments to please even the pickiest of organizers. With multiple exterior and interior pockets of varying sizes, you won’t be lacking in a spot for your small or important items with this satchel.

I can see this Harajuku Lovers bag coming in handy when traveling or even for students who want an alternative to the traditional backpack. The bold heart print might limit your use for the Poppin, but it’s actually one of the more subtle options I’ve seen from the brand.

At first glance, this Buxton Heiress organizer clutch looks like a simple wallet style clutch in a range of pretty colors. Look inside and on the back, however, and you can see just where this “organizer” clutch gets its name.

Everything about this purse aims to make you organized. Your coins are held in a conjoined coin purse on the reverse of the bag, whilst notes go inside in their little slot. Cards and paper and even other random bits and pieces can fit in with ease. The clutch isn’t designed to hold big items, but the contents of your wallet will be segregated and clearly differentiated.

The colors are pretty, but other than that the looks of this folded envelope clutch are fairly standard. The delicate flower stamp is a nice touch, but this is definitely work suitable rather than wild party-wear. That said, it won’t go out of fashion easily!

Kathrine Baumann is famous for her beautiful, yet entirely impractical, minaudieres. But the designer shows she can craft a usable accessory with this gorgeous evening bag.

At first glance it doesn’t look too different from those minaudieres. The body is still studded with Swarovski crystals, creating a floral pattern which is just as dramatic as the rest. But the size and shape make this a lot more functional.

The hexagonal design is a little more interesting than a traditional box shape, but it doesn’t compromise storage space. While you could never call it oversized, there’s so much more room than you’ll find in a minaudiere. You’ll still need to leave the luxuries at home, but at least the essentials should fit inside!

Unlike the minaudieres, this purse also comes with an extra long shoulder strap. You could even carry it cross-body style, but that might just undermine its elegance. If you’d rather carry it clutch style, you can easily remove the strap. It’s a handy feature which ensures you don’t fill up the purse with a strap you’re not using.

Just 500 of these evening purses were made, so it’s no surprise to see it priced at $3237.50. Of course, that doesn’t make it hurt any less!

The Center for Environmental Health has long warned us of the dangerous levels of lead and other toxins in our handbags. Now the non-profit group has joined forces with other environmental groups to launch a website which explains whether the accessories we covet are safe.

Healthystuff.org details test results for more than 5000 products, including the presence of lead, mercury, arsenic, and at what levels. The database features handbags and other items, including toys for children and pets, and cars. The site plans to include more products, including mattresses, in time.

“It’s not right that people have to be in this position of not knowing what’s safe to buy at the stores,” said Michael Green from the Center for Environmental Health. “What the database can do for the public is if they’re thinking about buying something that they think might have lead, they can actually look it up.”

Another spokesperson for the group Carolyn Cox warned that high levels of lead, especially common in yellow handbags, can be absorbed through the carrier’s skin. That can be very harmful, particularly to the unborn children of pregnant bagistas. Purses from Aldo, Nine West, and Guess have all scored poorly on the site.

I love cheery yellow handbags, but this online resource has made me think twice about carrying one of my own!

Jessica Jensen has given a lift to the traditional tote with the Patience.

The geometric, flared shape is classic tote, designed for sophistication and everyday elegance. But Jessica Jensen couldn’t let this bag blend into the background, so she’s added rows and rows of tiny wooden beads to the front panel. From a distance I love the look, but up close I’m just not sure. The beads look a little kitschy against that lush rose lambskin.

With so many beads on the front, the back looks underdone with just a slip pocket. It’s disappointing to see the flair confined to the front. Who wants to check which side is showing before they step out? I’d much rather grab and go! I suppose the pared-down back saves production costs, but at $858 I think we’ve already paid for the extra beads and labor!

What I enjoy most about Jessica Jensen is that the luxury isn’t confined to the outside. It’s incredibly satisfying to reach inside one of her bags and stroke the soft suede lining. The space too is luxurious, with plenty of room for the day-to-day essentials and creature comforts. There are two slip pockets for modern gadgets, a zippered pocket for change and other valuables, and a keychain too.

With room to spare and its chic design, the Patience tote is one of those rare bags which can easily make the transition from day to night.
