It’s fitting that this simply chic clutch from The Jesse B. Collection is called the Kennedy. It’s exactly the kind of purse I can imagine retro style icon Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis carrying!

The Jesse B. Collection figures when you’re onto a good thing, you should stick to it. The brand’s clutches all have the same vintage frame design and slightly squishable round shape. The devil’s in the details, whether it’s the fabric or the accents.

Here those details are a lovely muted green material and a retro snowflake pin. This accent is detachable, which seems like a strange decision to me. Remove it and the purse goes from sedate but a little different to ho hum. It might look a little old fashioned, but this vintage details is what gives the Kennedy personality.

After all, inside the purse is like so many we’ve seen from The Jesse B. Collection. Don’t let the plaid fabric lining fool you. This is the same old Jesse B. Collection purse with its small space and single interior slip.

Party girls may find it a little staid, but at $90 the Kennedy makes a great choice for meeting his parents or your next high tea!

I was on the fence about putting my seal of approval on B. Makowsky’s haircalf and leather combo Canterbury Tote, which puts this Stuart Weitzman ZipCalico handbag in a shaky place as far as my recommendation goes.

One thing is for sure about the ZipCalico. You can’t accuse it of being inauthentic. If the Canterbury’s animal print haircalf caused hesitation, this tote bag’s by-the-book, true cowgirl look takes things to a whole new level.

There’s no wondering what style Stuart Weitzman was offering with the ZipCalico. Any gal who is fond of wearing a cowboy hat and jeans will fall head over boots for this handbag. I suppose it could also work for women who simply like adding unexpected accessories to an outfit, but it has an undeniable western stamp on it. For me, it just bears too much resemblance to a haircalf rug I’d expect to see on the floor, but there are plenty of others who dig the look.

I guess haircalf and suede doesn’t come cheaply, though. Not completely surprising for Stuart Weitzman’s line, the ZipCalico runs for a whopping $695. I happen to find that price high for such a style-specific handbag. However, you can expect great quality from the brand, which makes it worth the cost if you think you’re in love with it and think you’d have plenty of opportunities to wear it.

Marc Jacobs, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: 1. completely infamous grunge show for Perry Ellis in the 90’s 2. the infinitely affordable Marc by Marc line 3. the tattoo on your arm that says “shameless”. In the immortal words of Rachel Zoe, “the man is an !#@ing genius, what can I say?”

And now to the bag. Excuse me, but I’m clearly about to gush. This bag is freaking adorable. The deep purple (!) textured velvet is simultaneously trendy and also a total throwback in the best possible way. I adore the giant bow that takes center stage.

I only wished they hadn’t put that horrible, huge logo plate on the front of the bag. It takes it from totally classy to a little bit trashy in less than three inches. But no matter. If it were my bag, I would just pry the damn thing off.

The chain link strap is seriously killing it. The combo of goldtone links and silver bows is too perfect for words. I would wear this baby with my shortest, tightest LBD and more eyeliner than Alice Cooper. But that’s just me. There’s a way of styling it that could be totally sweet and femme, too.

And (drum roll, please) it’s only 250 smackers which makes me absolutely willing to overlook the horrible logo plate.

A simple and understatedly elegant clutch, this Inge Christopher purse is a great option to look good for many seasons to come.

This cool gray color has been springing up all over the place. The Kianh Foundation has teamed up with ten up-and-coming British designers for a unique charity initiative. Participating artisans include Gemma Johnson, Tamara Fogle, and Charlotte Law of The Modern Fold.

The designers have created one-of-a-kind handbags, which will be auctioned off during London Design Week. Funds raised will help disabled and disadvantaged children in Vietnam’s Hoi An Orphanage.

Each handbag was crafted from a massive canvas painted by the children living at the orphanage. Doesn’t it look like they had fun doing it? The purses were then tizzed up with leather accents and sequined embellishments and metal details to make each one a true original.

Britons can see the bags at the London College of Communication from September 22 to 26. The silent auction will take place throughout the week. If you’re not in the local area you can still bid on the handbags by getting in touch with the organizers via the project’s blog.

Charity Bags on eBay

Ralph Lauren combines casual cool and British charm to create this chic Houndstooth Hobo.

The fabric finish gives this bag a relaxed style, but it’s a little different to the boho vibe we associate with hobos. The shape’s a lot more structured, and that houndstooth print creates a preppy private school feel. The brown checks are complemented by thin strips of black leather trim.

By keeping the leather to a minimum, Ralph Lauren keeps the price down to an affordable $70. That’s a bargain for the brand’s fans, who will love the embroidered signature which sits near the base. Thankfully for the rest of us, it’s subtle enough not to upset the design.

Of course, to cut costs Ralph Lauren has cut a few corners. If you’re looking for a handbag that will organize itself, this isn’t it. There’s only one zippered pocket inside, which isn’t enough for a space of this size. While it isn’t the largest hobo I’ve seen, those fabric walls do encourage us to overstuff. Be careful though; without slip pockets you may struggle to find your cell phone if you cram too much in.

But all in all, this hobo is very understated, and very Ralph Lauren.

I’m really excited about the way Pucci is branching away from its trademark prints. Don’t get me wrong, I think Pucci prints are bright, bold, and fabulous, but they are a little loud, so it can be hard to accessorize with them on an everyday basis.

But not this baby, it’ll go with anything and everything. And, is it my imagination or is $1,555 almost excessively reasonable for an exotic designer bag? Could be because it’s teeny weeny. At 6″ x 6″ x 1″, this is one bag that you’re going to have to fill with only the most necessary objects.

Honestly, though, it’s the perfect size for me, most of the time. Plus, I love the long chain strap that can be worn over the shoulder or across the body. And I also love the unique design of the chain itself. It has sort of an Art Deco appeal.

The amazing material of this bag is what really makes it amazing though. Ivory python? Yes, please. Grommet and chain link side detail? And the understated circular turnlock closure? Seriously, I’m dying. This bag is coming soon to the shoulder of a celebutante near you.

Tory Burch is one of those tried-and-true designers that hardly ever disappoints me and somehow manages to pull off unique looks with each collection. The way that her bags turn out timeless but trendy sometimes baffles me, but the designer certainly does it time and time again, in my opinion.

I am sure there will be plenty of critics who have negative comments of Tory Burch’s most recent display of handbags, but some fashion editors are evidently ready with checks in hand for the spring/summer 2010 collection. The designs debuted on the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City along with the designer’s other new looks.

The features that stand out to me most from looking at the bags are the chain link straps, the use of animal prints, and tons of texture. I even spotted several mesh-looking handbags as well as some other shiny embellishments. It’s a nice mix of boldly detailed bags and timeless leather pieces. It seems to me that Tory Burch was aiming for a little something to suit every taste with this new collection.

This Hobo International Rendita tote is all business with tons of practical features. Don’t count it among the practical but plain work bags, though. The Rendita has plenty of style going for it.

Even though the shape is fairly normal and even a little plain as far as these types of bags go, the simple and streamlined look is very appealing. This is the first in a series of articles introducing you to the vintages styles of different eras, and showing you some of the best vintage inspired handbags on the market. To begin with, the brilliant era of life-changing politics and dramatic prohibition that produced flapper girls – the fabulous 1920s.

The 1920’s, especially from 1925 onwards, were known as the “roaring 20s”, and as such is characterized by the Charleston, evenings spent dancing despite the alcohol prohibition, and women rebelling against repression. There probably were day bags, but the real prized possessions to accompany complex flapper dresses and elegant feather boas were the delicate beaded art deco evening bags.
