Dolce & Gabbana has produced an on-trend and functional bowler with this chunky animal print bag.

There is something enticingly sophisticated about this square bowler, despite the print which some will love and some will hate. Whilst leopard print (or animal print of any description) generally looks slightly tacky or trendily energetic, D&G has resisted the urge to go for funky and has instead created a pattern that oozes class. Dark, glossy and detailed, this pattern reflects nature far more than the gaudy oranges and pure blacks that we are used to seeing on exotic print handbags.

Alongside the print of course, comes the gold hardware and bang on-trend studs. That’s why the Clio Wallet fits right in with its simple, clean lines and quality construction.

Although some of Hobo International’s wallets are big enough to double as clutches, the Clio definitely seems more practical as a pocketbook than handbag. That being said, it’s sizable enough to function as a small bag on a casual night out.

The accordion-style interior is typical for a wallet but nonetheless convenient. There are plenty of slip pockets for cards and IDs as well as the standard zippered pocket for cash and coins. The front flap is secured with a snap closure that opens to reveal a nifty ID window on the back.

Gucci is a label associated with classic style and sophistication … but there’s little of that here. The bohemian styling of the Irina may perplex die-heart Gucci-ites, but it’s found new fans amongst free-spirited stylistas.

The basic white leather body is jazzed up with gleaming gold accents. The centerpiece is the flowery detail crafted from large golden hearts. The hearts and flowers theme might be perfect for the hippie crowd, but the execution is a little off for me. Honestly, it looks like something I’d expect to see in the teen section of a department store. Of course, the brand’s still charging Gucci prices. This tote will set you back a whopping $2650. The price seems inflated, but what do I know? These babies walked off the shelves on their release, buoyed by their popularity amongst starlets like Lindsay Lohan.

The exterior doesn’t impress me, and inside it’s not much better. The zippered pocket and solo slip pouch might be adequate for a space this size, but I expect more than adequate when I’m paying more than $2k for it. A few more pockets for girly gadgets and a more luxurious lining would help to appease me.

The Irina tote seems like a bit of a misstep for Gucci, but it’s been a popular one nonetheless!

There’s something about legendary rock and roll band The Beatles that continues to inspire creativity in all kinds of industries. The iconic group invaded much more than American music when they landed in the U.S.

The fact that all-American fashion label Lucky Brand is drawing inspiration from one of the album covers from The Beatles’ collection is proof enough of that fact. The company decided to work with British pop artist Sir Peter Blake, who designed the cover art for the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, to produce holiday shopping bags, gift boxes, and decor that we’ll see in Lucky’s stores this November.

The similarities between the vintage album cover and the new shopping bags are not particularly striking except that both feature a collage of images. However, instead of showcasing celebrities like the album did, Sir Peter Blake’s new work for Lucky Brand displays various holiday symbols and other anonymous characters.

Although an interesting pairing, I guess the collaboration shouldn’t be completely surprising given Lucky’s flair for the rocker vibe.

“Lucky Brand has always been inspired by Sir Peter’s ties to rock ‘n’ roll and his unique aesthetic,” noted Kristin Patrick, vice president of marketing at the Liz Claiborne Inc.-owned label.

Sensible is rarely sexy, but it can be attractive. If you favor function over head-turning style, let me introduce you to the Carol from Giani Bernini.

It’s not that the Carol is unattractive. The slightly trapezoidal shape is classic, and the combination of natural linen and tan croco trim earthy and autumnal. But it’s just not all that exciting. The front pocket, with its brass buckles, is the kind of feature I’d expect to see on a school bag. It’s entirely practical, but not so chic.

The Carol’s functional design is its real drawcard. The lined interior is spacious, and decked out with slip pockets and a large zippered pouch. The leather pull makes it easy to access your precious cargo, while the zipper closure keeps them safe. The strap is long and flat, to help it sit comfortably on your shoulder. The linen platform base is protected from wear and tear with four metal feet.

This Giani Bernini purse has all the features and quality of any high-end designer bag; it’s just a little lacking in the style department. However, don’t let that dissuade you if you’re on a budget. Priced at $84, it represents much better value than many cheap synthetic purses.

The word that popped into my mind when I first ran across this Santi Audrina clutch was “psychedelic.” I’m not sure that the design is intended to elicit that response, but the range of colors and dramatic style of the purse definitely directs my thoughts in a disco direction.

The bejeweled handbag is not a new look for Santi, but the Audrina does have its own unique style that sets it apart. For one, the use of color is quite interesting. This version of the clutch is labeled green, for obvious reasons, but the variations of the color and the placement of the jewels creates an eye-catching pattern. 

Jewels aren’t the only thing catching the light on this Santi clutch, though. The edges of the Audrina are trimmed in metallic gold leather, and an optional gold-toned chain link strap also shares the spotlight.

The price tag of $248 is not completely surprising for the brand and the quality of craftsmanship that goes into this kind of detailed purse. For that kind of money, though, I would’ve appreciated a magnetic snap closure underneath the front flap. No one wants the entire contents of their bag falling out if, heaven forbid, the purse is dropped or knocked over. Otherwise, though, the Audrina is an ideal party accessory that will make an average cocktail dress really pop.

Luxury handbag brands may have fallen out of favor in Japan, but they’re just as popular as ever in China. A new study shows the financial crisis hasn’t dented China’s enthusiasm for designer bags, watches, and jewelry.

The study by New York market research firm Pao Principle looked at the buying habits of 448 affluent people from mainland China. It found that nearly 90% of those surveyed had bought a designer bag in the past year.

Nearly two-thirds of men, and a third of women, also bought a luxury watch last year, while another 30% said they’d splurged on jewelry from designers like Tiffany & Co.

“The one-child policy has spawned a generation of more self-centered individuals whose primary goal is to differentiate themselves from their peers,” the marketing firm said. “No longer content to be one of the crowd, this group looks to luxury goods to help achieve this goal.”

A Chinese government stimulus package and record lending by the country’s banks have helped China achieve 8% growth this year, by far the fastest rate of any major world economy.

I don’t usually attribute the term “practical” to luxury label Mulberry. However, that’s exactly where the brand seems to be heading with its most recent project.

The company, which has churned out It bags like the Mabel and the Bayswater, is changing its strategy a bit by creating a collection of laptop bags. It’s a new collaboration between Mulberry and Apple Computer aimed at combining luxury and convenience for both men and women.

Mulberry’s Creative Director Emma Hill commented on the partnership:

“Apple products are too beautiful to reside in drab bags! Apple and Mulberry share a legacy of craftsmanship and I’m thrilled that we were asked to be Apple’s first luxury collaboration.”

The nine-piece collection, which includes bags, laptops sleeves, mini iPhone cross-body bags, will hit Mulberry stores and Apple’s European website on November 1. You can purchase them from Mulberry’s website beginning December 1. They sound like a great gift idea for the fashion-loving techie in your life.

This SR Squared by Sondra Roberts pocketbook is for gals who like a little whimsy with their accessories. It’s hard not to take notice of this quirky little bag.

If you’re not looking closely, it might be easy to miss the martini glass on the front of this credit card holder, but really it’s quite in plain sight when you know it’s there. The dead giveaway is the green and red olive on the tip of the envelope flap, or rather the “bottom of the glass.”

Although a patent sheen on synthetic leather isn’t always the best choice since it can sometimes make a bag’s manmade appearance stand out even more, it somehow seems appropriate on this SR Squared design given the topic. My only hesitation is the matching stitching that runs around the shape of the martini glass and olive. I would’ve preferred a solid shape instead to keep everything simple.

Classified as a credit card holder, this wallet-like bag is certainly not substantial in size and is meant to sit in a purse or handbag rather than function as a clutch. However, it would be great for a night on the town when you need your cards and cash close by. It’s nicely priced, too, at only $25.
