A Scottish stylista recently bagged a bargain, after paying just a few hundred pounds for a Hermes handbag. The prized purse was sold at the Cancer Research UK shop in Pitlochry, Perthshire.

It’s estimated that the bag was worth at least £1500, but the store owners were happy to accept the much smaller donation.

“Myself and Sarah, who works out in the store, were looking through a selection of bags, and then this classy looking bag appears at the bottom of the plastic bag. I was still trying to work out what it was, when Sarah starts jumping around saying ‘It’s a Hermes. It’s a Hermes,'” explained store manager, Mary Butchart.

The charity store was inundated with calls as rumors of the Hermes handbag quickly swept the town.

“Yesterday I received over a dozen calls from people saying they’re interested in the bag, but on Monday a woman came into buy it. We’d been urged by people to put it up on eBay but as a charity we can’t do that. However, this woman came and was willing to pay the cash up front for the bag, so we thought it was a very fair offer.”

I’m sure the mystery buyer agreed! This is definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time.

Ruffled detail isn’t something I’m accustomed to seeing on a design from the typically edgy and trendy brand Treesje. So this Divino shoulder bag with its use of the feminine accent definitely caught my eye.

The way that the tiny ruffles are added to the edges of the front and back zippered pockets as well as the top of the purse give the Divino just a hint of subtle femininity. I’m not sure anyone would categorize this design as a ruffled handbag since the detail is so understated, as opposed to the much more obvious use of the accent we saw on the Jessica Simpson Runway satchel.

It’s certainly not enough to scare off gals who tend to go for edgy styles since the Divino also has plenty of trendy stitching and zippered details to satisfy that population of shoppers. However, I can also see it appealing to women who prefer a little girliness to their handbags as well. Treesje managed to touch on just the right amount of both styles without going overboard. Of course, that won’t appeal to the extremes of each personal taste, but it’s a nice medium of the two looks.

This version of the Divino shoulder bag is a decent size with comfortable, thick straps ideal for everyday use. If you like bigger dimensions when it comes to purses, there’s actually a Divino Grande design that offers the same overall look in a slightly larger size.

Gustto combines the party-appeal of patent leather with the relaxed charms of nylon to create the Picia. Under the hands of a lesser designer the combination could seem confused, but I think Gustto may have just pulled it off.

Without the patent leather, this nylon carryall would be shapeless, and frankly, a little boring. But that polished leather saves it. The ruched fold-over flap is the most obvious head turner, with its big bold silver hardware. But look closer and you’ll see more of the glossy leather accenting the top of the Picia, its base, and the long shoulder straps.

The nylon lined interior is luxuriously large, offering enough space for everything you need to get through the day, and a few things you don’t! But good luck keeping your precious cargo in order! The single zippered pocket just isn’t enough to for such a roomy space.

It may have genuine patent leather details, but the $550 retail value seems far too much to pay for a nylon handbag, no matter how stylish. Thankfully it’s currently on sale for less than half price at Endless.

Solange Knowles, the soul singing sister of Beyonce Knowles, is the latest victim of handbag theft. The singer awoke on Sunday to find her handbag and bicycle gone.

Solange is always seen carrying a hot handbag from edgy upcoming labels like CC Skye and Samantha Thavasa. Yet she seems more torn up about losing the bike, which was a gift from two close friends.

“Thank you whoever stole my bag and my fave yellow bye-sick-cool [bicycle]. I hope you ride it really fast then trip on a stick and fall,” Solange wrote on her Twitter page. “That bike was a gift from two of my besties [best friends] … & I’ve had it for some good years. I’ll never be able to replace the memorys [sic].”

But the singer is remaining positive despite her loss, adding “Thank God they didn’t steal me. There’s always a bright side.”

Indeed! She may not be able to replace a bike with such sentimental value, but I’m sure there are plenty of designers willing to give her a new purse!

Colorblock designs offer a very specific look, and one which isn’t likely to last beyond a season or two. Yet the complementary blend of colors here might help you carry the Oyster a little longer. By pairing diagonal stripes in similar shades, Guess has created a bag with real staying power. Still, all those colors won’t appeal to everyone. Guess reigns in the glitz here, with the rhinestone encrusted logo plaque providing the only hint of bling. I could have done without these glittering gems, but fans of the brand will be thankful for their inclusion!

The interior is a little less subtle, with a vibrant signature print lining giving Guess’ trademark splash of color. All those fruity tones may look a little out of place, but it’s hard to mind when an interior space is so well organized. This exceeds our expectations, with a long zippered pocket, a cell phone slip, and two more multifunctional pouches. Use one for your MP3 player and another for a small camera!

The rolled handles are a little shorter than I’d like, but most girls will have no problems slipping them over their shoulder.

When you buy Guess, you don’t expect real leather or high quality. But a bag like this Oyster satchel does help budget-loving fashionistas enjoy an on-trend color-blocked purse. It may not last forever, but neither will this fad!

It appears that the infamous “manbag” that many attribute to today’s metrosexual trend is not as recent an addition to the fashion world as we might have originally thought. In fact, leather handbags for men date back even to the days of King Henry VII.

Among the many artifacts found aboard the sunken warship, the Mary Rose, a Tudor-era trendy leather manbag was discovered with a compact mirror and razor to boot. The vessel was actually raised back in 1982, and the hull has been on display ever since. The plethora of personal items also found aboard the ship, however, has not been seen by the public due to a lack of space to display them.

That is something that the Mary Rose Trust is trying to change, though, with a recent unveiling of the items, vintage manbag included, to reporters. It’s hoping to raise money for a hi-tech museum project set for 2012 that will showcase all of the artifacts.

Perhaps the news that men have been carrying around practical, stylish bags for hundreds of years will encourage more lads to get on board with the manbag trend.
