The roaring success of Mulberry’s Roxanne satchel only goes to show that a bag doesn’t have to look good to become a hit.

I don’t mind the elements of this leather looker, but Mulberry simply takes them too far. Buckled pockets are classics, both sophisticated and practical. Belted accents too can add an unexpected preppy style. And no one would begrudge a designer adding a smattering of studs. But all together this is hardware overload, the likes of which we rarely see outside Juicy Couture.

The pockets up front hint at a bag that values practicality, but sadly Mulberry doesn’t deliver on that score either. The medium-sized interior space deserves more than the single zippered pocket we find to stay organised. Not even the straps are functional; they’re far too short for most women to fit comfortably over their shoulder.

Perhaps I’m being a little harsh on this Mulberry satchel. It does have a distinct look, and for many that’s enough. But personally, I can think of many better ways to spend $1595.

Gucci has launched a new iPhone application, which celebrates fashion and music.

The program has a range of exciting features, including videos from Gucci fashion shows and its collections, photos of its latest and greatest style items, and news articles. For globetrotting stylistas and culture vultures there’s a list of not only Gucci stores, but also fashionable restaurants, bars, clubs, and hotels in 33 international locations.

The real star performer though is the unexpected Gucci Beats section. This project was developed by the label’s creative director Frida Giannini and British production whiz Mark Ronson. He’s designed various loops which iPhone owners can use as a base to mix their own tunes. Once you’ve created your masterpiece, you can share it with all your friends on your social network pages. I’m not really sure what any of that has to do with Gucci or fashion for that matter, but it sounds like a lot of fun!

The Gucci iPhone application is available for free download from the Apple Online Store.

As its somewhat sensible name suggests, the Harrison isn’t interested in following fads. It features none of the design features of the latest on-trend bags, but what it lacks in head-turning style it makes up for with substance.

Not that the Harrison is an ugly duckling by any means. It’s just that it lacks the wow factor. The luggage brown leather is a classic, and the slight slouch is casually cool. The zip and hidden flap side pockets add a little interest to the simple shape, but again they’re not designed to be lookers.

But if it’s practicality you’re after, you’ll have little to complain about. Those side pockets are just the start of the organizational features. Inside there are many more, including one zippered pouch and a whopping four accessory slips. There’s plenty of room for everything you need, but it’s not so big that you’ll struggle to handle it. The strap is long too, and flat for comfortable over the shoulder carrying.

If you’re looking for a conversation piece, you may want to give the Harrison a miss. But if you’d prefer to spend your money on a reliable wardrobe staple, this is hard to go past.

What does the Twilight mayhem have to do with Diane von Furstenberg? Absolutely nothing. While it might be a little trendy, this Dolce & Gabbana Vlada design is one that I can imagine continuing to be considered stylish for years and then vintage chic later on.

Though the majority of the clutch is a solid, gorgeous deep red satin, the front flap is covered with a veritable galaxy of shimmering jewels. It’s the kind of feature that will sparkle in certain lighting and look absolutely stunning.

The keyhole-shaped closure is a clever twist-lock contraption that adds a whimsical touch to this fancy clutch. Although the Vlada bag comes in an equally elegant black, it’s this ruby red color that I consider the prettier, more unexpected option.

Whilst designer handbags are great, their luxurious materials and pricey tags sometimes aren’t exactly what we need. Sometimes, particularly when we want to relax, a cheap and cheerful boho tote is the only thing that will do the job.

Great for flinging with chunky knits, tassels and funky clothes, this patchwork tote will match any number of outfits whilst still looking individual, cool and hippie-like. You will no doubt go through periods of hating it if you do buy it, but it will always find its way back into fashion somehow, and can be kept long after other bags would get too disheveled.

Sloppy floppy fashion is the name of the game here. The combination of fabrics may be a bit exotic and in-your-face, but the relaxed and easy going shape is great for those who carry lots and need a spacious design with plenty of compartments. Even better, the buckled middle and reinforced feet offer a bit more support to what is a purely fabric exterior.

I am disappointed that the leather trim is brown rather than black or even blue, although it does work to bring to mind aging travel bags and vintage looks.

This purse is ideal for anyone out there who can pull off boho like Nicole Richie, as long as they are feeling brave!

This white tote probably isn’t the most practical option, but at least there are metal feet to protect the base. If you’re hoping for the looks to last though, the black bag is probably your best bet. The golden hardware complements both shades beautifully. By adding some tiny studs here and a delicate zip there, Maxx New York keeps the look timeless. The logo tag tips the balance, but it’s easy enough to remove.

The Barrymore is made for carrying more than just magazines. The cleverly organized interior makes it easy to keep the clutter at bay. There are two zippered pockets which complement three open gadget pouches. Outside there are another two zippered pockets in the front and back for even more secure storage space.

The strap is long enough to sling over your shoulder, but if you prefer the cross-body look don’t worry. A detachable shoulder strap gives you that extra carrying versatility. It’s completely adjustable too so you can get just the right fit.

Anticipation is reaching fever pitch as H&M prepares to launch its collaboration collection with Jimmy Choo. Most budget-conscious shoppers have November 14th circled in their calendar, but they’ll need to follow some ground rules if they hope to bag a bargain.

The first 160 people at each H&M store will receive a wristband, which entitles them to shop for Jimmy Choo accessories at a specific time for the first two hours of the launch. The bracelet is only required for the shoes, handbags, and other accessories, so if you’re hoping to snare menswear or women’s apparel you can breathe a little easier.

Once those two hours elapse, these special designated areas will be open to the public. Of course, since demand is so high not even all wristband holders are guaranteed to get what they want.

H&M and Jimmy Choo are doing their best to meet the demand though by capping all purchases. You can only buy one of each product in each size. It’s a great idea, which is sure to stem the eBay trade and give as many bargain hunters the chance of securing the goods.

However, with prices starting at a mere $69, don’t expect these designer babies to last long no matter what measures are in place!

No red carpet glamourpuss, the Kala clutch from Matt & Nat is all about punk rock attitude.

When it’s a Matt & Nat original, you know you’re not going to get calf or lamb skin, but the brand’s all-vegan fabric is a pretty nice substitute. The pewter version is too glitzy for my tastes, but I love the edgy appeal of this black bag. It makes the gunmetal zips and rivets up front look just a little more rock and roll. But those zippers aren’t simply for aesthetics. They open to reveal secure pockets which help the clutch work overtime.

The Kala is on the oversized side, which makes it a viable option for a day out or a night at the club. There’s a lot more space than we usually see in a clutch, and a secure closure (zippered of course) for your peace of mind. The spacious size is a bit of a double-edged sword though. There’s no strap or handle, so you’ll need to carry this clutch the old-fashioned way. You might not mind that at first, but if you’ve got a lot of errands to run or a big night on the dance floor planned you may want to think twice.

The $185 retail value seems a little steep for a non-leather clutch, but its everyday versatility might make it worth a splurge.

Television and silver screen star Eva Longoria Parker and her NBA-playing hubby Tony Parker are the epitome of lovey-dovey in the ads. It’s not exactly G-rated with the couple locked in passionate embraces and Eva seemingly wearing nothing but a handbag in one shot. However, the two seem so genuinely in love that it’s more sweet than saucy.

“They were so loving and affectionate with each other and the shots beautifully capture these intimate moments on set,” said Dari Marder, Chief Marketing Office of London Fog, in a statement. “We are honored that they selected London Fog for their first fashion campaign together.”

The holiday advertisements showcase London Fog trenches, luggage, and handbags and can be seen this winter in magazines and on billboards.
