The back to basics box design appears like polished metal from a distance, but it’s actually made from gold leather. That should make it a little lighter to carry, and it’s a good thing too because the Marano doesn’t come with one of those convenient tuck-away chains.

While I’m griping about the practical limitations, it’s worth commenting about the size. It’s on the small side, and its structured shape means you simply can’t over-stuff it. You may fit your keys and cards inside, but don’t be surprised if you need to leave a few of your favorite items at home.

The news buzzing around Louis Vuitton’s future advertising campaigns right now is that Madonna is out to make way for some fresh faces. The European style pre-fall starring with Missy Rayder were a hint of this change in direction, but the recently confirmed faces of the luxury brand are even more of a shift.

Following in some famous footsteps including Madonna, Naomi Campbell, and other recognizable faces is edgy new “it” model Lara Stone. The Dutch beauty is set to star in the label’s upcoming spring/summer 2010 campaign.

Stone isn’t the only hip, twenty-something model chosen by Louis Vuitton, however. Young but experienced Daisy Lowe will also star in upcoming ads for the brand. The previous face of Marc by Marc Jacobs will be starring in a sexy shoot showcasing LV’s ready-to-wear spring/summer 2010 beachwear range that will also include shoes, bags, and accessories.

Though there’s no word yet on particular themes for the upcoming photo shoots, both are guaranteed to be interesting and possibly provide a much-needed infusion of excitement for Louis Vuitton.

Here we have yet another rather wonderful raffia purse from Mad Imports. Experts in raffia and other such eco-friendly materials, the brand’s purses tend towards interestingly combined colors and shades.

This fold-over clutch is no different. The woven raffia weaves the blue and green shades together in an intricate wave, leading from the thin elegant base up towards the very simple fold over top. I do think a button would have added an extra feature, but some will prefer the smooth undisturbed lines.

Of course, no matter how pretty this bag is, I need to mention the disadvantages of raffia. After all, it is well known for falling apart easier than leather alternatives, so needs to be treated with delicacy. A clutch does afford the ability to do this as it doesn’t swing wildly on your shoulder, but even so the lifespan is shorter.

That said, this purse is perfect for holiday wear, whether for traipsing the beaches in the day or taking to the restaurant in the evening. With that in mind the light cotton lining and breathable raffia work in this purse’s favor, as is Mad Imports’ way.

Yves Saint Laurent’s latest “It” bag, the Roady, shot to fame on the arms of glamorous celebs like Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, and Leighton Meester. Now the in-demand purse will get a personalized makeover for shoppers in America’s fashion capitals, Los Angeles and New York City.

With a smattering of modern studs, Anne Klein converts this rather plain tote into a contemporary fashion statement.

Unlike many designers who seem to OD on the metal accents, Anne Klein keeps things subtle by placing the studs only at the top of the purse. She keeps us guessing with the mixture of brass and silver studs, big and small ones, textured and plain. It’s a funky new take on the trend which I think really pays off.

Other than the studs, there’s nothing too unexpected here. The leather is top quality, and as with most Anne Klein creations its available in a mix of conservative shades and more surprising tones. This ruby red tote is particularly fetching for fall. Anne Klein’s famous lion motif appears on a metal plate near the base of the bag, proudly boasting the brand’s heritage without appearing too obtrusive.

I do appreciate a bag with a large zippered center pocket. By separating the tote into three sections, organization is made easy even for the most scatterbrained stylistas amongst us. Zippered pockets in both side walls complement an open cell phone pouch and the zippered pocket we saw underneath those stylish studs.

At $188, this Anne Klein purse is an affordable quality way to indulge in the latest studded trend.

Charles David Handbags on eBay

When you’re shopping for a decently sized handbag around the $100 mark, finding one made from genuine leather is beginning to be a rarity. There are a few exceptions to that, of course, but brands are mostly sticking to synthetics for that price range.

Though a little disappointing, I suppose it’s not entirely surprising considering the size of some of these large handbags. This Chinese Laundry Emma Bucket bag, for instance, would probably cost quite a pretty penny more than $107 if it had been constructed using real pebbled leather instead of a faux leather material.

A leather-like texture can work well on purses, but I’m not sure I’m buying it on this one. The pebbled texture is a nice touch but is unfortunately cheapened a bit by the solid fake leather trim. The studs on the handle and the grommet holes decorating the sides provide a nice distraction from the less than perfect aspects of the Emma Bucket, though.  

Sometimes it’s better to opt for true quality over size and get a smaller style made from real leather, but this type of purse is a viable option for when you need a big bag but don’t want to spend too much on it. You might not get top quality, you definitely won’t be lacking in storage space.
