This purse is quite a beast, and in this spangly silver shade that means that you will catch eyes, especially in a room with bright lights to reflect off the fabric. Thankfully the tin-foil effect is avoided by the snakeskin, which adds attractive texture to the purse whilst avoiding over-sheen.

The interior of this oversized tote adds a surprisingly sophisticated feel to this space-age design. It coordinates, for sure, yet is in a subtle striped gray fabric that would look at home in any design leather handbag. Of course the formality is lost as soon as a purse is constructed out of synthetic silver leather, but the interior is there!

The postage stamps were cute, but here’s a Lanvin anniversary collection fashion fans can really sink their teeth into. To commemorate the French fashion house’s 120th year in the business, it’s released a range of anniversary tote bags.

There are three “120 Years” totes, each featuring a vibrant Alber Elbaz illustration and a different theme. Choose from the classic 120 Years tote, the romantic Love You tote, and the festive 120th Birthday tote. Each cheery design is accented by a grosgrain ribbon handle. The interior is fairly simple, but at least its fully lined and equipped with a zippered pocket.

The colorful sketches on each tote correspond to porcelain figurine dolls also released to observe the anniversary. The limited edition dolls measure around 17 inches and are available from Browns London for £325.00. The totes are a little more accessible for Lanvin devotees around the globe, but they’re no less expensive. You can find all three anniversary bags at Net-A-Porter for a whopping $800. Yes they’re limited editions, but that still seems like a lot of cash to spend on a fabric bag.

Brands like Fendi and Louis Vuitton would have you believe that nothing says classic like a signature print. While I’m dubious when the high-end labels feed us that line, I’m even less convinced when designers like Giani Bernini jump on the bandwagon.

With its new age name, I expected something a lot more boho-chic from the Twin Star Sign handbag. Instead it’s a signature print bore, with interlocking letters and drab canvas finish. The cranberry leather trim might have added a little something special to a different purse, but this festive shade simply looks out of place here.

It’s a shame because the interior is so appealing. It’s not as big as many fashionable bags, but Giani Bernini has always cared more about remaining classic. There’s plenty of space for the essentials and then some. Those bits and pieces will stay organized too with two large zippered compartments and another zippered pocket hidden underneath the flap. There are open pockets too ready to keep your gadgets safe.

The style doesn’t wow me, but the $75 price tag does. That makes this signature purse a much more tempting proposition than those similar high-end handbags.

Michael Kors’ Asian-inpired Resort 2010 collection might be only just now available to buy, but the designer took his bags to the stores a while back when shooting the ad campaign.

The campaign continues the storyline of supermodels Carmen Kass and Noah Mills as jet-setting celebrities about town. After a trip down the velvet ropes of Broadway for fall/winter 2009, Kass and Mills’ Michael Kors personas are taking a break from the bright lights of celebrity to go shopping.

This particular shot from the campaign features the sophisticated Uptown Astor Shoulder Tote, in addition to the blonde beauty holding the handbag and her handsome companion. The duo appears to be picking out the purse in a Michael Kors boutique or possibly just carrying one around as they shop while also decked out in the designer’s clothing and other accessories. Either option seems a tad cliche to me, but the handbag and the models are attractive enough to make for an appealing picture.

Jessica McClintock produces an elegant bag with this incredibly simple art deco purse.

The sharp angular metal frame of this evening bag works incredibly well as a minimalist structure for the rest of this delicate purse to rely upon. From the solid metal it moves to the thin chain fringe, a bold contrast against the black background fabric and the gunmetal shade.

Of course whilst the stylish chain fringe looks great, it is a little impractical. We all know how fragile necklaces knot and tangle, and I am willing to bet that the same will happen with this. If you are careful enough and treat it with kid gloves, however, then you can avoid it ending up as a complete mess!

Inside this really is just the simplest of pouches, with a single slip pocket for any cards. You want to keep the lines of this purse straight, however, so keeping it pretty much empty except for a few cards may be the best, if not the most practical, idea.

This Jessica McClintock metal purse will look spectacular with a smart black dress, and is reasonably affordable at about $50.

There’s something about the way that this Steve Madden Tribeca Satchel features studs along the bottom half that reminds me ever so slightly of the popular Alexander Wang Coco Duffel. I’m not sure if Steve Madden drew inspiration from the designer tote, but this affordable synthetic handbag has a few of its own features going for it as well.

There are actually several details that set the Tribeca apart from other satchels. Despite its rather classic silhouette, this handbag is edgy with studs, zippers, and crocodile print.

The patent leather-like top half is separated from the gray croc-embossed bottom panel by a horizontal zipper that opens and closes to expand the height of the bag. I have to admit that the feature is a tad baffling to me since the difference between zipped and unzipped seems minimal. Whether or not it’s the most useful feature, the zipper definitely adds something to the overall look of the bag.

The disappointing aspect of the Tribeca is the fact that the triple row of studs along the front of the satchel does not continue around the back. Though this lack of continuity is not exactly surprising for an inexpensive bag of this size, it’s still a little unsatisfying. However, the price tag of under $100 makes this large Steve Madden satchel an option worth considering.

Grrr, some things just annoy me. The wildly irritating name of this Moschino Cheap and Chic range is just one thing! Don’t get me wrong, the bags are nice, but at $495 this is Chic without the Cheap.

If you ignore the name, however, then what we have with the Moschino Vertigo clutch is actually quite pretty. Beige may not be the most adventurous color around, but there is no denying that it can be a major part of some of the most classic of outfits. With the addition of the rose it is beautifully elegant, and perfect for smart evening dos or dinner.

Beneath the rose the fabric is bunched, and slouches out. These slouchy clutches are always easier to carry, and they also add a dose of practicality if you have a habit of stuffing your purse to the brim. Even better, if you do insist on over-stuffing, then the optional short shoulder-strap will make your life easier.

In essence this is a minimalistic clutch with luxury leather decoration. It is expensive, but at least this should be immune to any trends.

This Ghibli satchel combines contemporary details with classic styling for a fantastic everyday look.

The buttery calf leather slouches in all the right places, but it’s not completely soft hearted. The reptile patterned handles have tiny silver studs for an extra dose of edge. The same exotic pattern is repeated along the top of the satchel.

I just wish Ghibli had stopped there. The rhinestone studded nameplate looks like it belongs on a Guess bag rather than this one. It’s just a little too ostentatious considering the restraint shown on the rest of the purse. Ghibli doesn’t need that sort of bling to stand out.

The interior helps to redeem the design though, with a plethora of pockets and so much space. In fact, I imagine this bag will get pretty heavy once it’s loaded up to capacity. So it’s a good thing that a much longer strap is added for comfortable cross-body carrying.

Sensible with just enough edge, this Ghibli purse has the goods to get you through the nine to five grind, and beyond!
