If I didn’t know that this Lola tote happens to be a Harveys bag, I’d never guess that it’s made from the label’s signature seatbelt material.

Featuring what might be the most atypical Harveys design I’ve seen yet, the Lola fits right in with the recent ruffled handbag trend that seems to be popping up a lot. The feminine look is quite the opposite of rock-and-roll studs that are equally popular right now, and the pleats on the Lola are anything but edgy.

The pretty in pink ruffles are complemented with silver-toned hardware, including a turnlock clasp that closes the thin top flap and on the handle anchors. The single braided strap is an interesting, unexpected detail, though I’m not sure just how comfortable it would be on your shoulder for long periods of time.

The height of this vertical tote makes it practical for carrying tall items. You won’t have any difficulty slipping a book or magazine in this purse. If you like the Harveys seatbelt look but also appreciate a twist on the ordinary, you’ll love the Lola.

Research from Synovate confirms that many shoppers get an attack of the guilts when spending money on luxuries like designer handbags and fashion items. The Brits were one of the most remorseful mobs, with two-thirds of women feeling bad after a splurge.

“It’s a classic case of British guilt. It’s seen as much more acceptable to buy something ‘needed’ for the home than it is to indulge yourself in any way,” explained Jill Telford, Synovate’s CEO for the UK.

There were roughly as many guilty luxury lovers in the United States. Much happier with a little self indulgence were the Indians, Dutch, and Brazilians. Most of these folks savored the opportunity to spoil themselves.

And unsurprisingly, the research also showed men around the globe feel less guilty about luxury purchases than women. I could have told you that one without an international survey!

Recently established website Handbago has deliberated and reached its final decisions for the site’s first ever Handbag Awards, and the winners are bound to sound familiar.

The top honor of “Best Handbag” has been bestowed upon Rebecca Minkoff’s trendy Studded Devote Tote from the designer’s spring/summer 2009 collection that was full of similarly detailed bags. The following explanation perfectly sums up the choice:

“Rebecca Minkoff is a fashion designer that speaks to the masses but is also ahead of her time in regards to design,” states Kristina Moreno, President of Handbago.com. “The Devote Tote can be taken in so many directions. It’s edgy, it’s fun and it’s young with a sophisticated twist. Plus, not only is the handbag popular with consumers, but celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Lauren Conrad and Michelle Trachtenberg have been seen carrying it as well.”

How appropriate it seems to feature a bag from Hobo International’s Holiday 2009 collection on this Christmas day. The Cassandra might not be the most festive holiday bag available right now, but it’s definitely a step outside the expected for this typically understated brand.

The slightly oversized Cassandra clutch is a great accessory for semi-casual to cocktail attire this winter. With its snakeskin printed leather and slim design, this bag is right on trend for the season.

The finish on the leather is impeccably detailed, which I would expect from Hobo International as well as other brands whose clutch bags retail for over $100. While the back of the bag might be flat, the front has been given some visual interest and depth with soft pleating that relaxes the look of the clutch but also makes it contemporary.

Because of the width of the Cassandra Holiday clutch, there’s not an impractical lack of space inside as with some purely decorative clutches. Though it might not be quite as versatile as other clutch designs from the brand, this Hobo International bag will take you plenty of places whether during the holidays or not.

It’s a tiny bag though, and the irregular Santa shape only limits storage space. You’re definitely restricted to the bare essentials when you take this festive fellow out on the town. But something tells me anyone who wants a Santa purse isn’t really interested in practicality.

As if having a stylish model mom wasn’t enough reason to envy Lila Moss, it seems the seven-year-old daughter of Kate Moss also has a killer handbag collection.

The supermodel says her only daughter is already showing an instinct for fashion.

“She tells me what she doesn’t like or she’ll say: ‘Mummy, you look nice.’ Or [she’ll say]: ‘That dress is amazing!’ She’s got it.”

If you needed further proof that the 80s are back, just take one look at this retro tote from Juicy Couture.

Dark denim is the perfect backdrop for Juicy Couture’s optimistic neon text. The slogan “Make Every Day Happy” grabs the spotlight, surprisingly upstaging Juicy Couture’s familiar logo. The look takes me back to my childhood, and I love it.

But that’s only half the story. The back is relatively plain, with Juicy Couture’s famous “Love G&P” phrase on the pocket. I suppose this is an improvement on all those bags with perfectly plain backs, but I really wish the front design had simply been continued. It’s a matter of personal preference, but I think this large logo’s a little unsightly.

The generous interior is a nice open space, so it’d make a great gym bag or overnighter. Some may argue that an interior so large needs more than just one zip and slip pocket, but if you use it to carry large items you’ll appreciate the uncluttered design.

I rarely get excited about Juicy Couture bags, but this one is something special. It’s lovely to see the brand straying from its favorite pink and purple color scheme! With its retro looks it might not stay in fashion longer than a season or two, but for $88 I’m willing to live with that.

It certainly won’t be a shocker to anyone that the upcoming Sex and the City 2 movie is going to be full of all kinds of designer fashion eye-candy for the average woman to covet. We caught a glimpse of that in some of the filming images released earlier this fall, but now the first official trailer is out to confirm it.

The somewhat short teaser of a trailer still manages to provide a who’s who list of luxury labels with some rather impressive clothing and accessories. Names like Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, and Christian Louboutin (in spades) make the cut, and I’m willing to bet that’s just the tip of the designer iceberg. 

That’s not even counting the handbags seen in the clip, which doesn’t even last a minute and a half. From filming images, we know that Carrie will be toting around a Sylvia Drapey Hobo from Louboutin. Well, now we know that she and the other fashionable gals will also be strutting around with some Chanel, VBH, and Dior on their arms.

Regardless of plot or quality of acting, Sex and the City 2 obviously won’t fail to please fashionistas who will see the movie simply for the clothes, shoes, and handbags.
