Fun Tabitha Helping Handbag Benefits Bulgarian Orphan Charity

Posted on: Jan 5

Many handbag designers pay lip service to charity work, but when you read the fine print you see only a small percentage of the profits go where they’re needed. Not so with this gorgeous Tabitha bag; the very first Helping Handbag!

100% of the proceeds from this purse’s sales will benefit The Campaign for Bulgaria’s Abandoned Children. The charity helps to support and re-home Bulgaria’s orphaned and abandoned youth. Their latest initiative is the Baba: Give a Granny program, a scheme which trains local women to become primary caregivers to these needy children.

The cause is important to support, but let’s not forget the stylish handbag that comes with it. It was designed by one of the creative minds of popular accessories brand Jigsaw, so it’s no wonder it looks so good! The altruistic leather bags are currently available in tan and aubergine. Order yours online for £150 plus postage and handling.

Linea Pelle Vanessa Large Hobo Handbag | Unusual Slouch Purse with Hand Lacing and Exaggerated Fringe

Posted on: Jan 5

I was starting to feel like designers had done just about everything they could to reinvent the hobo, but then I spotted the Vanessa. Here Linea Pelle has done the seemingly impossible, and delivered yet another variation on the boho staple.

There’s a hint of classic crescent in the shape, but it’s a lot longer and more angular than I’d expect. The trademark slouch is exaggerated too, helped along by lovely soft, buttery leather. In black there’s a little rock drama about this purse, but the long, sparse fringing and braided shoulder strap bring this hobo back to its bohemian roots.

The soft slouchy nature of the Vanessa gives it a devil-may-care look, but with that comes a few impracticalities. Slouchy purses are notoriously difficult to get items in and out of, and this one isn’t any exception. Set it down, and the Vanessa will crumple into a puddle of leather. This is a purse that looks its best dangling from your shoulder, rather than actually being used.

Functional limitations are made a little easier to forgive when purses are reasonably prices though. That’s such a relative term, but at $495 the Vanessa is a lot more affordable than many It bags out there.

More Features of This Linea Pelle Fringed Hobo

  • Hand lacing detail
  • Zebra print lining
  • Magnetic closure
  • A shoulder strap with a 15 inch drop
  • Measures 18 x 23 x 6 inches
  • Also available in pewter and dark chestnut
  • Made in China

Kotur Adds Line of Casual Day Bags to Brand for Spring and Summer

Posted on: Jan 4

A typical collection of Kotur handbags includes minaudieres and evening bags in exotic prints and patterns perfect for special occasions or even red carpet events. Well, now the label is taking its style beyond dressy gatherings and into the world of daytime.

Along with the upcoming spring and summer collection soon to be released, designer Fiona Kotur is adding casual but sophisticated day bags, including shoulder bags and totes, to the brand’s merchandise. The vintage-inspired line, which is apparently influenced by the classic, all-American look of style icons such as Faye Dunaway and Ali McGraw and heavily inspired by the designer’s own personal collection of vintage handbags, will involve some interesting materials ranging from metallic haircalf and python.

The goldleaf haircalf Kotur Wallace Satchel, one design that was stylishly test-driven on fashion forward Gossip Girl, is our first peek at the new look for the label. This day bag collection will make its official debut at Market Week next week and is set to be priced from $600 to $2,000.

Matt & Nat Saatchi Envelope Clutch | Delicate Vegan Japanese Paper Purse

Posted on: Jan 4

The latest handbag in Matt & Nat Saatchi’s vegan range made from Japanese paper is this cute crumpled fold-over purse.

Although the magenta is lovely, many people dislike having a crumpled purse. The artful creation of this particular clutch, however, gives an impression of intended wrinkles, rather than random dishevelment. In the same way, this vegan bag is actually akin to leather in looks, and that makes the wrinkles somewhat more desirable.

Many people also collect handbags in interesting and exotic materials. For these people it won’t be the multiple pockets or functional adjustable handle that convinces them, but more the fact that is actually made out of paper. This man-made Japanese paper will often be enough alone to sell this bag easily!

Functional and good looking, this is a pretty bag that may be a little too big for many people.

  • Man-made vegan exterior
  • Multiple interior and exterior pockets
  • Adjustable matching handle

Tignanello Soft Casual Dome Shopper | Contrasting Pebbled Leather Handbag

Posted on: Jan 4

Tignanello is known for its pebbled leather, classic designs, and quality materials for a decent deal. This Dome Shopper from the Soft Casual line fits right in with that reputation, even to the point of being slightly repetitive for the brand.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate the style or quality craftsmanship that I know will accompany the handbag; I just feel like I’ve seen it before. There’s not much about it that stands out to me as particularly compelling.

That being said, if you don’t have a closet full of Tignanello, the Soft Casual Dome Shopper would be a great addition to a bag collection. With its simple styling, practical details, pretty topstitching, and somewhat contrasting neutral colors, this satchel has a few things to offer.

Exterior pockets are a nice touch, and the bag’s significant depth makes storage easy. The double handles are just a bit long and out of scale, in my opinion, for the handbag’s size. However, perhaps the convenience of the detail would outweigh that.

More Features of the Soft Casual Dome Shopper

  • Measures 14 x 9 x 7 inches
  • Double handles with 9.5 inch drop
  • Paisley lining

Moschino Cheap And Chic Ruffle Shoulder Bag | Girly and Daring Red Tote

Posted on: Jan 4

I have been watching Glee recently (who in the northern hemisphere hasn’t?!), and have loved the plethora of colors worn by the cast. I think it was this that attracted my eye to this girly yet fabulous red-pink purse from Moschino’s Cheap and Chic range.

Now, I can understand why the color alone won’t be enough to convince some people to love this bag. After all, chain handles are one of my pet peeves, as I feel they neither look good nor are particularly comfortable. Many people will also feel there are too many zips, although I personally enjoy the contrast of biker and feminine in one little purse.

This Moschino tote is actually quite spacious, shaped as it is like some sort of cylindrical bowler. This means that it looks elegant from the side, whilst simultaneously fitting in a fair amount of belongings. You do, of course, also get the added bonus of exterior and interior pockets, perfect for girls who want to be organized.

If you are feeling gleeful, then this pricey Cheap and Chic ruffled shoulder bag will probably suit your mood perfectly, combining sophisticated leather with funky nylon and having lots of fun doing so!

More Features of this Moschino Bright Ruffle Tote

  • Over-sized ruffled exterior
  • Single interior pocket, dual exterior pockets
  • Single chain and leather handle
  • Nylon and Leather exterior

LeSportsac The Olivia Case | Practical Diamond Bling Patterned Convertible Coin Purse

Posted on: Jan 4

While its designs may not always be the most stylish, LeSportsac are the go-to brand for practical accessories. Here they bring a little something extra to coin purses with The Olivia Case.

Coin purses are rarely spacious, and this one is no exception. But it does include a few functional features that the others lack. First there’s the handle, which converts the case to a wristlet with a minimum of fuss. The handle also has a key ring attached. I’m not sure how secure it would be to have your keys out for the world to see, but I suppose it puts an end to scrounging about the bottom of your handbag. Pockets inside and out give us extra space for stashing small valuables.

LeSportsac prints are more fun than fashionable, and this Bling pattern is no exception. Diamond rings and stones are set against the bright turquoise background because, after all, they are a girl’s best friend!

The Olivia might have more features than your average purse, but it’s not much more expensive. You can pick one up for just $15.

More Features of This LeSportsac Convertible Coin Purse

  • Black contrast trim
  • Zip top main closure
  • Measures 4.5 x 1 x 3.5 inches

Felted 4 Ewe Creates Wooly Bags for Winter

Posted on: Jan 4

While most high-end designers are looking to summer and sunshine, smaller handbag designers know that the chill of winter weather isn’t leaving us any time soon.

One such brand is Felted 4 Ewe, a unique label founded by New Hampshire’s Betsy McDermott, and her daughters-in-law, Sandy and Kara.

The trio uses traditional knitting and felting techniques to create its handcrafted one-of-a-kind purses.

My mother-in-law uses more traditional patterns and colors; my sister-in-law uses more funky textures and colors. I am a little traditional and then incorporate a little ‘Pow.’ I like colors to be in harmony and I like them to work together,” explains Sandy McDermott of their unique design philosophies.

Felted 4 Ewe’s back-to-basics approach has seen its bags gain a loyal following amongst New Hampshire locals and online fans. This year the label aims to introduce more colors, shapes, and accents into its range.

Felted 4 Ewe bags cost between $30 for a simple small purse and $100 for extra large and more elaborate designs.

Lauren Merkin Tess Evening Bag | Metallic Lambskin Handbag with Convertible Chain Strap

Posted on: Jan 4

Lauren Merkin’s become a celebrity favorite with her gorgeous clutch purses, but with the Tess she shows us what she can do with a larger canvas.

The Tess has the same dressed-up style of her popular clutches, but it’s not quite as lust-worthy. The basic shape is a little boring, and the prettily pleated front pocket doesn’t really do enough to add interest.

That simple styling shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand though. It gives the Tess a versatility many Lauren Merkin clutches lack. While they tend to be strictly after five affairs, I can imagine using this metallic purse to dress up a favorite pair of denims or a cute sundress.

The shoulder strap also works long or doubled-up. At half the length, the strap makes the Tess an elegant shoulder bag, while the longer alternative sees it work as a more casual cross-body purse.

While there’s more space inside than a Lauren Merkin clutch, the Tess isn’t exactly roomy. The hinged frame adds structure, but it limits the storage space too. You’ll need to pack carefully if you hope to take advantage of the Tess’ day-to-night looks.

More Features of This Lauren Merkin Metallic Evening Bag

  • Striped fabric lining
  • Measures 8 x 9 x 2.5 inches
  • Made in the United States of America

French Luggage Brand Delsey Does Green Days Bags for Eco-Friendly Travelers

Posted on: Jan 3

It’s not just hippie girls looking for eco-friendly handbags. Now a wave of environmentally conscious jetsetters is looking to do more than carbon offsetting flights.

Responding to the demand, French luggage brand Delsey has designed the Green Days collection, a new range of luggage 45% made from recycled PET bottles.

The travel bags feature a chic black polycarbonate case and while they’re not made completely from recycled products, they are 100% recyclable.

Our products are conceived to use as few raw materials as needed. We use recycled materials. We avoid mixes of components; instead, we will use pure recycled ABS parts. There is no PVC backing. At the end of the life of the suitcase, when it’s dismantled, we can select and put it back in the appropriate recycling chain,” explained Albert Engler, Delsey’s product marketing manager.

Delsey cuts down on the packaging, so more luggage can be transported at any one time. Sea transport is also favored over air to cut down on harmful carbon dioxide emissions.

Delsey’s Green Day bags, part of the brand’s spring/summer 2010 collection, are due to hit selected stores soon.
