Gucci and Christie’s auction house have teamed up for a unique vintage appraisal program. Gucci Collector: Presented by Christie’s is the first Gucci-certified online service of this kind.

The service was designed for collectors who want to learn about the history of their vintage Gucci items, and perhaps most importantly, what they’re worth.

The service is free, and accessible through both the official Gucci and Christie’s websites. Users upload photos of their vintage Gucci goods and submit an appraisal request. These take approximately two to four weeks to prepare, and include an auction estimate prepared by Christie’s Director of Fashion and Textiles Patricia Frost in association with Gucci’s archive department, and notice about the item’s suitability for an upcoming Christie’s vintage sale.

There’s more good news for Gucci lovers too. The Italian fashion house is preparing to unveil a Gucci museum in Florence. It should open in 2011 to coincide with the brand’s 90th anniversary.

I wonder whether any of the Gucci bags that Christie’s values will end up in the museum’s hallowed halls!

Floral totes are a perennial spring favorite, but I’ve never seen a flowery bag look quite like the Zera from Pink Studio.

Pink Studio has opted for a modern look here, with muted tones and a contemporary silhouette. These features help to dress the tote up a little, although with its cotton body it won’t suit an upmarket after-five do. I wouldn’t mind though; this tote would suit a casual office environment, the mall, or even a day at the beach.

It’s got the space to match all of those outings, and the bright canvas lining should be able to handle a little inner-city smog or a salty sea breeze. The roomy interior probably needs more than the single zippered pocket but I guess we can’t have it all for this price.

That bottom line really impresses me. It’s rare to find a quality bag for $52. When it looks as cute as this one, it’s almost impossible. It might suit spring, but I think you’d get away with carrying this fun floral number all year round!

Not as confusing as its moniker suggests, the Rubick’s Purse from Phillip Lim is on snappy little number.

Black calfskin leather is timeless, but look a little closer and you’ll find a tote that easily marries classic and contemporary design. V-shaped stitching adds interest without overwhelming the design. It’s a modern look, and refreshingly, one that we see on both the front and back.

I’m less enthusiastic about the ruffled leather trim we see along the sides of the top zip and the zipper pulls. It brings a curious dose of femininity to this urban design, and one that I’m not really sure works. But I can’t deny that it’s different, and for that reason alone it’s bound to find fans.

The Rubick’s Purse is one functional tote, with dimensions that are almost as long as they are wide. That makes it ideal for bookworms with their chunky novels, or those girls who just never want to leave anything behind. The single zippered pocket is a little disappointing – we really do need more than that to keep a purse of this size organized – but at least it’s reinforced with suede for durability. A lone pocket inside a tote is bound to get a workout.

This tote has its flaws, but at least I can’t complain about the price. This Rubick’s Purse is surprisingly affordable by designer standards at $550.

I love it when a label’s advertising campaign matches the spirit of the season’s runway show that precedes the unveiling of the campaign and reveals the fashion and overall vibe to be expected. That’s exactly how I feel about Sonia Rykiel’s spring/summer newest ads.

While the attitude on the runway might have been slightly more lighthearted with models sporting as many smiles as you’d see in a comedy routine audience, the undeniably cool and confident aura exuding from the catwalk translates beautifully into a campaign shot by photographer Horst Diekgerdes and featuring models Alana Zimmer and Marike Le Roux.

This particular shot from the ads also showcases some of the season’s upcoming handbag trends that I, for one, am excited to see. No, bold hardware hasn’t gone anywhere for spring and summer, but the trappings around the bold hardware and the overall look of the detail is a bit different.

Instead of heavy, dramatic studs that take over a bag’s design and define the style as edgy, these purses feature grommet holes and perforated leather on bold but seasonally appropriate colors for a lighter feel. It seems like a perfect balance for carrying over the trend while interpreting it in a new way for a different time of year. Sonia Rykiel certainly isn’t the only one rocking this combination, but these handbags do exemplify the style really well.
