Ellington obviously had jetsetters in mind when it created the In-Flight Tote.

The styling is simple but classic. There’s no fluff or frippery about it, but its look isn’t likely to date any time soon. And in this periwinkle blue it does have a certain charm.

It’s not the best looking travel bag I’ve ever seen, but let’s face it: it doesn’t have to be. Airports aren’t exactly the most fashionable of places. They’re locations where sweat pants and oversized T-shirts rule, so all this bag really needs to do is its job.

And it does that very well indeed. The pockets you see up front and on the sides are just the start of the practical perks. There are in fact seven exterior pockets, and that’s all before we get inside. It’s large enough for stashing a bulky novel for the ride and a few basic toiletries so you arrive at your destination feeling fresh. This space is kept organized with a total of six mesh and zippered pockets. There’s also a panel organizer hidden away to take care of your cell phone, sunglasses, loose coins, and pens. The features don’t stop there; you’ll also find a removable coin and card wallet for those last minute airport purchases.

The handles are probably long enough to carry over your shoulder, but there’s another longer strap too should you want to wear the In-Flight tote cross-body style. And if you’re carrying luggage you need not use the strap at all. The back pocket unzips to help the tote easily fit over the handle of a pull-along suitcase.

While it might skimp on style, Ellington manages to give us a lot of value for the $79 price tag.

Bulgari has tapped British designer Matthew Williamson to create its handbag collection for spring/summer 2011. This is the first time the Italian luxury label has had an official designer at the helm.

Bulgari bags tend to be conservative and elegant affairs, so it will be interesting to see whether Williamson reigns in the exuberant color he was known for as creative director of Emilio Pucci.

A statement from Bulgari’s CEO Francesco Trapani suggests the brand will invite Williamson to bring his signature flair to the label’s purses.

“We chose Matthew Williamson for the great sense of color and design he brings to his work which resonates with our brand’s rich history,” explained Mr. Trapani.

We’ll get our first sneak peek at Matthew Williamson’s debut line for Bulgari at Milan Fashion Week this September. I’m definitely looking forward to discovering what Williamson can bring to this classic brand.

It’s called a grocery bag, but something tells me this Cynthia Vincent shopper would be more at home in a disco than the local supermarket!

The slouchy, simple shape resembles a typical shopper, but that’s where the similarities end. Never before have I seen such an ostentatious grocery bag. Instead of dull cotton canvas, Cynthia Vincent gives us genuine leather in metallic bronze or cobalt blue.

The interior also gives us more than most grocery bags. While there is no closure, the purse is completely lined and equipped with a couple of pockets for your cell phone and spending money.

The biggest negative for me is the price. While the full leather body probably makes it worth every bit of the $200 tag, I can’t imagine using a $200 bag to carry home my eggs and milk! This could definitely double as a day bag for girls who love glamour, but if you want a practical shopper I suggest looking elsewhere.

Madonna has revealed details of her upcoming fashion line for Macy’s, and it’s not the collection you might expect. Her new Material Girl collection is a junior line targeting 13 to 25 year olds.

The Material Girl range will include apparel, handbags, footwear, and jewelry. The collection was reportedly inspired by Madonna’s teenage daughter Lourdes Leon, so we can probably expect to see lots of studs and faux leather!

“Lourdes has an incredible sense of style and her point of view on fashion has definitely been an inspiration for the line,” confirmed Macy’s spokesperson Jeff Gennette.

The Material Girl collection is expected to hit Macy’s stores in August with pieces affordably priced from $12 to $40.

If you’re a more mature Madonna fan, don’t worry. Material Girl is only the first project for her multi-label fashion range known as MG Icon. I’m sure Madonna will cater for more grown-up tastes soon!

This is the sort of bag ready to handle a spending spree at the mall, or a busy day of running errands. The zippered pocket which separates the Ivah’s interior makes this generous space easier to manage. There are smaller pockets on the side walls to handle small valuables, and a handy fob for your keys.

This is one fashion label that always knows when enough is enough. By adding only a couple of accents to a classic bag, Donald J Pliner creates an eye-catching piece you can happily carry for years to come.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs line has a practical side that makes the slightly overpriced price tags seem reasonable. It just never goes out of style, but somehow always looks really current. This Heart Tote has additional practical qualities that make it appealing too. It’s a full-size tote that folds and zips up into a cute little heart. It’s a little gimmicky, but I kind of love it.

Plus the combination of dark and light flower prints in the patchwork design is so cute that it’s almost completely irresistible. It’s as if Vera Bradley got cool. I can see this working as a tote for women from the boho set to the prep club, and the strong nylon fabric will stand up to a lot of wear and tear, so you could just throw it in your bag for groceries or impromptu shopping trips.

The only thing I don’t like about this tote is the price. At $140, it’s a little over my $100 tote bag ceiling, even with the adorable fold up capability.

This spacious Las Vegas hobo brings a modern twist to the traditional western style handbag.

Although the studs and tan leather could be construed as quite typical of a cowboy styled handbag, I actually think B. Makowsky has made this into something quite different. The tassels are folded and thus more curved than normal, and the studs vary in size to make a very stylish effect. This is like Americana with a first class upgrade!

Other than the chevron shape and interpretive styled tassels, however, there isn’t actually anything particularly luxurious. The leather is soft, but really this designer handbag is more of a casual purse than a formal purchase. It is instantly suitable for weekends, but most people wouldn’t use it for work, which means that $218 doesn’t go quite as far.

With a lot of space and some handy pockets, this really is a different hobo to the norm.

Marc Jacobs is the hero of the downtown fashionista. There’s not a girl below 14th Street that doesn’t worship him. And it’s no wonder, because his designs are elegant and chic, but still totally hip. Case in point is this fabulous New Yorker Rocker Bag.

I love how aptly named this bag is. I can just see it swinging from the arm of a waify girl in a shiny bikini top, low slung skinny jeans, and stiletto motorcycle boots. It’s just that kind of cool. The sequins on the bag make it blingy, but the the dark colors mute it just enough to put it in the rocker style category rather than the princess category.

The simple shape of the bag keeps it from going over the top, and I’m nuts for the gold and leather lock clasp and the chain and leather strap that is so of-this-moment. This is the perfect bag for a seriously hip girl with seriously hip plans for the night.

Most girls who like girly things have a bit of a penchant for specific features. For polka-dots, all too often, and bows. Another area they tend to love are classy and stylish flowers.

This is why I think the Nine West Neves purse will go down a treat in these kind of circles. It isn’t over-powering, but it features a gorgeous collection of layered synthetic leather petals, which spiral out from the center and which occasionally reveal a splash of metallic silver lining. It is minimalist yet feminine at the same time, a combination that is hard to manage. It is also good looking because the whole front of this big clutch is covered by said flower, with no annoying sticking out bits to distract and annoy.

Oversized clutches are a bit of a sticking point with the fashion industry. We love the way they look with our favorite outfits (and can’t you just see this paired with black skinny jeans?), but they are really surprisingly difficult to carry. The carrying problem is solved by Nine West with the attractive optional chain strap, but I still question whether this will be too big for a night on the town, but too small for everydayday wear.

Affordable, stylish and really “on trend”, this is perfect for channeling this season’s florals fad.

With the Tara clutch Bourne serves up classic glamour with a dose of bling.

The traditional box shaped purse is embellished with a Celtic inspired knot design. This pattern is further accented with a strip of glittering rhinestones. The success of these gems really depends on the shade you choose, and your personal preference. On the black bag the diamantes really stand out. It’s too obvious for me, but it should suit girls who love a bold bag. If your taste is more conservative than mine, look to the Tara in pewter or this delicate lilac shade.

Box clutches are always more style than substance, and this one is no exception. While the satin is soft, overstuffing this purse will disturb its clean lines. You don’t have a lot of space to play with, but with a little effort and some Tetris skills the Tara should be able to accommodate your party must haves.

As space is limited, I appreciate the removable strap. While a chain is always a plus, I hate cluttering my purse when the handle’s not in use. This gives us the best of both worlds; the convenience of hands-free carrying without compromising storage space. The serpentine strap should be more forgiving than a traditional chain too.

At $140, the Tara clutch is no impulse buy but it should serve you well, and turn a few heads, on your next evening out.
