Christian Dior is celebrating the reopening of its Shanghai store this month with an exclusive Blue collection.

There are 12 goodies in total, including Lady Dior evening and classic bags in deep blue calfskin. This classic bag, with its military style messenger strap, would be ideal for daytime wear. Then I’d switch to the sequined evening bag to make a splash at any red carpet event. Pair these blue beauties with the Dior mobile phone in sapphire crystal or the Mise en Dior costume jewelry necklace in blue colored pearls.

It’s great timing for the brand, with World Expo bringing many tourists from around the globe to China. Take note Prada; this is how you encourage luxury lovers to spend up during Expo. You can get these limited edition pieces only at Christian Dior’s boutique in Shanghai’s Plaza 66. I’ll bet that level of exclusivity will probably leave most of us feeling a little blue!

Just like people, some handbags are cool simply because they don’t try to be. The Taylor from CC Skye is one of those rare breeds. There’s not a hint of on-trend hardware, no seasonal colors; instead it keeps things simple and is better for it.

The leather body is lovely in rich chocolate brown or taupe. Chic curved slip pockets sit either side of the handles, adding interest to the Taylor’s simple structured shape. Just a hint of golden hardware helps to dress up this already luxurious purse.

It’s easy to see that the Taylor is a satchel which doesn’t leave us wanting. It’s enormous, with space to spare for everything you will need to carry, and a few luxuries as well. Such a large handbag could become unmanageable when loaded up, but CC Skye adds a longer cross-body strap to make the task a little easier.

A bag like the Taylor doesn’t go out of style or season. It’s probably too large for an everyday handbag, unless you’ve got a laptop to tote to the office. Instead I imagine putting it to good use as an overnight bag or piece of carry-on luggage.

Fendi has really been surprising me lately. The line seems to be stepping away from its usually ostentatious, in-your-face aesthetic and moving towards something a little softer. This new look combined with the chic Italian touches that made Fendi famous makes for an amazing handbag.

The Peekaboo reminds me of a Mary Poppins’ magic bag, only loads more stylish. I love the retro rose embroidery and the way the jeweled color scheme contrasts with the deep black of the background. It looks handcrafted without looking too artsy-craftsy, which is a really delicate balance.

The generous size and multiple strap options make this bag a really practical choice. Except that it’s $6,995. It’s basically the price of a two-year old economy car, and it’s not even leather. So, even though I think the Peekaboo is terribly terribly cute, I think the price is way out of line.

Balenciaga has teamed up with Neiman Marcus to release a limited edition handbag collection to celebrate the French brand’s 10th anniversary.

Neiman Marcus will sell six exclusive versions of the iconic motorcycle bag: three Firsts and three Cities. Each bag is available in three colored cracquele-finish calfskins; choose from classic noir black, bronze, and a pastel pink shade known as Bois de Rose.

I’ve always been a bit bored by Balenciaga’s traditional black cotton lined interiors, so I’m thrilled to see the label experiment with a pretty pattern here. If any occasion calls for color it’s a birthday, isn’t it?

Each motorcycle bag features an exclusive nameplate reminding us it’s part of Balenciaga’s 10th anniversary celebrations. The nameplates are also numbered to guarantee their authenticity and limited edition status.

Calvin Klein reinvigorates the hobo bag with this glossy patent Rain.

While most hobos have a relaxed bohemian style, this one begs for attention with its vivid colors and rich, glossy texture. This is a fabric that looks good, so good that you’d swear it was leather. At $148 it probably should be genuine patent, but at least Calvin Klein has opted for a high-quality synthetic. The only tell-tale sign is the slouchiness around the top; the fabric falls much more harshly than real leather might.

While we don’t get real leather we do get a lovely textured fabric. The horizontal grain of the material is what gives the bag its weather-inspired name, as it appears much like a summer shower. A subtle nameplate boasts the Calvin Klein name without detracting from the design.

I’m not sure the chain strap works as well though; it doesn’t quite match the Rain’s retro vibe. I am grateful for the soft synthetic center though, as an all-chain strap would have proved a bit painful to carry by day’s end.

This is an enormous hobo, and its pockets probably don’t go far enough to help us stay organized. A zip pocket and a couple of open slips are standard features, but the Rain’s dimensions are far from ordinary. I may long for a few more pockets and pouches, but their omission is no deal breaker.

At $148 Calvin Klein has created a hobo that’s both sophisticated and fun. That’s a rare beast, which helps to justify its slightly too expensive price tag.

Coach has teamed up with French artist Pierre Le-Tan for a fun range of beach bags.

The three totes in the Coach Beach Collection feature Le-Tan’s whimsical illustrations in warm, summery colors. We can choose from a friendly seahorse, a beachside cabana, or a sun-sensible umbrella. Shiny gold-toned hardware and leather accents complete the upmarket coastal designs.

These Coach beach bags have a fun look, but I’m balking at the $268 price tags. This is ridiculously expensive for a canvas bag, no matter how beautifully illustrated it is. That’s especially true when you consider the summer-specific styles; I wouldn’t want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on something which will sit at the back of my closet for three-quarters of the year.

If your summer budget is bigger than mine however, one of these Coach totes will serve you well. And if you’re really feeling extravagant, consider the other products in the Coach Beach Collection including wedge sandals, jewelry, and sun hats.

Burberry fans will swoon over the classic preppy style of this Haymarket Ellie Wallet. For the rest of us though, I think this purse is just a little too safe.

Burberry knows its market though, and they will be perfectly satisfied with the combination of classic tartan checks and chocolate brown leather. But I’m just a bit bored. The gold-toned D-ring does its best to add interest, yet I’m still left wanting more.

The interior attempts to deliver that, with a few cleverly laid out features. I like the separate coin purse and main compartment, both of which close with a snap. And on a purely superficial leather, the leather lining is lovely. But the two credit card slots just won’t cut it for most modern girls.

Burberry knows its market, but it’s not me. Frankly, if I’m going to spend a few hundred on a wallet I want more than this.

Actually, sarcasm aside, I really like this pattern. The light summery beige works brilliantly with the blue stripes, and I am glad the label kept the rest of it minimal. I can’t imagine something better suited to summer days, cute dresses and strolls through the park, which I presume is London Fog’s intention.

Although the looks are great, the size is probably an issue. Anything too fat will make it bulge, making this one of those bags where you have to think hard about what belongings you pack. Still, for $38 you can expect that, and you can buy a bigger bag with the spare change!
