I hear that tribal patterns are set to become the next big thing in fashion. If that’s true, this bold Max clutch from KC Malhan is well placed to become a style trendsetter.

The first thing I thought when I spotted this brightly colored purse is that it could be some kind of primitive game of naughts and crosses. The angular lines are a little more abstract on the back of the bag, but I definitely flashed back to childhood at first! No matter what the design is meant to be, the vivid palette of colors is compelling. I can imagine this beaded print really popping against an all-black ensemble.

As with most KC Malhan bags, its beauty is really on the surface. The interior is basic at best, with a simple rayon lining and single zippered pocket. But it is a bit bigger than most evening clutches, so that extra space should serve you well. A shoulder strap would have come in handy, but for this price we probably can’t be too picky.

$70 is very reasonable for a purse which will see you ahead of the trends.

Kavu delivers functionality without the flash in this Seattle Sling Bag.

The outdoorsy brand rarely turns my head, but I love the fun striped canvases Kavu has used here. Traditionalists will be happy to see plain black and khaki in the range, but these stripy prints are much more interesting. They help to jazz up the traditionally styled shoulder bag with its front and back pockets.

While I love the stripes, they’re not really the selling point here. As with so many Kavu purses, it’s all about the practical design which makes the most of the purse’s medium dimensions. The brand shows us that you don’t need a large space to carry everything you want; this sling purse should hold everything you need without weighing you down. There are two main compartments, each packed with smaller organizational pockets. The cell phone pouch on the adjustable strap is another inspired touch, allowing us to answer calls without rifling through our purse.

For a mere $34.95, the Seattle Sling is very practical purse for busy girls on the go.

Yellow! Light summery daffodil yellow! The wearableness (if it isn’t a word, it darn well should be) of this pale yellow shade is what sets this Melie Bianco clutch apart from the crowd.

Most yellow bags tend to be a bit bold, a bit too bright. They stand out from every color around them with an “Oy! Look at me!” kind of attitude, and this can make it a pretty hard color to wear. Not to mention that many people look decidedly ill if they wear yellow against their face. A lemon sherbet shade like this pleated purse, however, is a great way to wear a more muted version of the color, and to add some subtler yellow highlights into an outfit.

Aside from the color, we do have a very fun and pretty clutch here. The ruching, pleating and cute front button especially make it quite adorable. I am not completely convinced by the chain detailing, but that can be removed. I am, however, convinced by the size,which gives you a little more room than most clutches.

At $89 this isn’t bargain basement cheap, but I reckon it will go with a lot more than you would initially assume.

I like the freeBird by The SAK bags. They have a certain rustic and boho vibe, whilst at the same time being quite affordable. At just $59 this bag is no exception.

The shape of this purse suggests that it is all about function. Square silhouettes may not be all that innovative, but they do make packing easier, and the thin elegant design in turn makes it comfortable to carry. The long cross-body strap too reinforces this impression, as it makes it the Intermixed the sort of bag that you could easily and comfortably carry around on a long walk, or an intense shopping session in town.

Although it is clearly functional, The SAK hasn’t actually sacrificed that much in design. The stone leather-esque synthetic fabric looks sophisticated, and works well with the contrasting oversized decorative weaving. The SAK has even coordinated this with the cute little woven zip pull. Essentially this is a muted and subtle bag that looks smart, although it isn’t particularly eye-catching.

Affordable and sensible, you don’t have to sacrifice looks with this Intermixed tote.

Kathy Van Zeeland serves up studs, studs, and more studs with this All Star Shopper.

Clearly the kind of star Kathy Van Zeeland is channeling is the edgy, rocker type. The combination of shiny black synthetic and gleaming silver hardware oozes all the attitude of a music icon like Mick Jagger or Jim Morrison. But unlike these stars, this shopper doesn’t set the trends; it follows them. Studs seem to be on every second bag these days, and the execution here is nothing new. In my opinion Kathy Van Zeeland is a bit heavy-handed with the hardware, but anyone who knows the designer probably isn’t surprised.

Peek inside and it’s a different story; the modern cool of the exterior gives way to a feminine floral lining. Such a starkly different material is a curious choice, and one which does nothing for the bag’s rock star cred. The space is well designed though, with a handful of open pouches and a large zippered pocket helping to keep the generously sized interior organized.

At least at $110, this shopper won’t leave too large a hole in your pocket. That should be some comfort when the studded trend inevitably passes.

Pierre Hardy is celebrating the 75th anniversary of DC Comics with this limited edition Superman bag.

The tote featured Pierre Hardy’s favorite new print, an optical illusion with stacked cubes. While that might not inspire comic book geeks, the Superman logo and a racing stripe in the same blue as his suit definitely will. It’s an interesting juxtaposition which the French designer says evokes both the mild-mannered Clark Kent and his heroic alter ego.

“It’s the great hero archetype! I like his double personality; he is also beautiful in Superman as in Clark!” he explained. “The bag is the reflection of both aspects; as if both identities were stacked.“

This is a fun tote, and an exclusive one with each numbered and available at the Colette boutique in Paris. But I still don’t think that justifies the whopping $1857.60 price tag! Hardcore DC Comics fans can get their online at the Colette website.

She’s a modern city gal, a bag who bears all of the trademarks of a hobo, just with a bit more polish. I haven’t always been the biggest fan of Juicy Couture’s accessories, but the brand’s Velour French Wallet has a certain something.

This purse strikes the balance between Juicy Couture’s trademark style and something a bit more fashion forward. I’m shocked that the brand’s classic velour actually works in this croc embossed texture. It could so easily have appeared tacky, but the execution is good here. The fuzzy reptilian scales are complemented by brass hardware and royal blue leather trim. And what’s more, there’s not a crown or splash of pink to be seen!

This is a small wallet, but it makes the most of its size with a billfold compartment, two slide pockets, a zippered coin pouch, and six credit card slots. That might not be enough for some shopaholics, but I think most girls should be able to manage on a regular day out.

The lagoon blue shade may be a little daring for some tastes, but I think you can get away with a bold choice in wallets. After all, it will spend most of its time packed away inside a larger purse. If you prefer something more conservative though, perhaps one to double as an everyday clutch, this Juicy wallet is also available in basic black.
