Iconic toy brand Mattel is branching into the accessories market with some fun new handbags featuring its popular characters.

Everyone’s favorite doll Barbie will star in a new collection of handbags designed with the help of Harveys. We can expect seatbelts and plenty of pink in these purses for young fashionistas. They’ll be available through Harveys, department stores, and specialty boutiques next year.

Older girls will prefer the Monster High bags designed in collaboration with Accessory Innovations. Monster High is Mattel’s latest powerhouse, a franchise which sends the teenage children of world famous monsters to high school. The series is targeted at tweens and teens, so we should see a more sophisticated handbag range here. The line, which will feature clutches, totes, messengers, and cross body bags, will hit stores this fall.

Boys aren’t forgotten either with the release of Hot Wheels bags and backpacks. The car themed accessories sound like lots of fun, with motion-patented technology and real working lights. They’ll also be in stores this fall.

Magid makes the most of the Milan’s size though, with a zip pocket and two slip pouches helping to keep the clutter at bay. The stylish turn lock closure keeps your essentials safe, while adding a hint of vintage charm.

The Milan may not be as luxurious as its European name suggests, but I think it’s every bit as stylish.

Mad Imports delivers a tote befitting its name with the Jujube. It’s more than a little mad, but summer is the season for getting crazy!

If you love to stand out from the pack, carrying the Jujube tote is an easy way to do it. The crocheted raffia body is a traditional idea, but its diamond finish is much more modern than a purse your grandma might carry. This detail probably would have been enough for any other brand, but Mad Imports pushes the envelope by adding a contrasting rosette in the center of each square. It’ll be too much for many, but I predict a few girls will warm to this bold fashion statement.

The Jujube has plenty of space, but I’d hesitate to load it up. Raffia isn’t renowned for its strength, so you’re sure to shorten its life if you insist on carrying the kitchen sink. Besides, those wooden handles won’t feel too kind on your hands if the tote is full to the brim.

The Jujube is a simple tote, without an interior lining, pockets, or clasp. Frankly it’s all about the look, and if you love it you won’t mind the $89 price tag one bit.

I have to admit that I haven’t ever heard of the Savanna brand before. However, if everything it produces is like the affordable little Y & S box clutch then I shall have to pay a little more attention in future.

This purse, you see, costs only $30. This does suggest that the quality isn’t the best in the world, but for an occasional evening bag quality isn’t the be all and end all. What really matters is the way it looks, and I think the label has managed to make something fun and attractive.

OK, so the design isn’t all that serious. However, the woven ribbon and patent exterior combines to make it look jazzy and metallic, and can lighten any outfit. I am also impressed that the looks don’t completely forget the practical issues, as Savanna has added interior pockets and compartments.

Smart, cheap and fun, I don’t see much wrong with this affordable evening bag.

It is nice to see a refreshing twist on an old favorite with this simple black tote that Hobo International have updated with a new shape.

There is no unnecessary embellishment with the Foster tote. Instead, the soft and pliable leather is left to speak for itself. However, that aforementioned shape keeps it fresh and new. I love that this can work just as well as a handbag as it can a shoulder bag, and I actually think the shape lends you practicality as well as that something different.

Of course, being Hobo international, even a relatively simple leather bag isn’t cheap. The $348 price tag may be a little high for many people, although I suppose it is worth remembering that a bag like this will be very unlikely to ever go out of fashion.

Stylish and elegant, but a little pricey, the Hobo International Foster tote is a practical investment for any wardrobe.

Two natural horn handles completes the look. I can’t imagine that these delicate handles are very easy to carry; they don’t look wide enough for most hands to grasp. But it does look the part, which might help compensate for any inconvenience.

Gucci is a fashion favorite amongst discerning adults, but now it hopes to find some even younger fans with the launch of its children’s collection.

Lulu Guinness does cheap and cheerful with style with this faux snakeskin clutch.

With its outlandish colors, this purse doesn’t try to convince us it’s made of real snakeskin. But its vibrant shades are a great complement to the black mottled python-like print. They create a look that seems ready for a party, although probably one that isn’t too flash!

For its size and bargain basement price, I was pleasantly by all the organizational features we find inside. The fully lined space has two main compartments for bills and receipts, a zippered pocket for loose change, an ID window, and eight credit card slots. If you like to use a clutch like a mini handbag you’ll struggle for space, but if it’s a hand-held wallet you’re after this will do the trick.

For a mere $18.99, this snake-print clutch is pretty impressive!
