More details of emerged of the bags we can expect to see in Mulberry’s diffusion line for Target.

Eight different styles will be released, and while we won’t see real leather many will be available in materials which at least give the illusion of luxury, such as velvet and denim. While there will no doubt be some pleather purses, hopefully Mulberry will use the gorgeous jersey fabric we saw in the red Bayswater for Gap bag a couple of years ago.

The bags will reportedly be “inspired” by the British firm’s aesthetic. So while they’ll likely take their cues from famous purses such as the Alexa and Roxanne, we probably won’t find exact copies. I like that approach, as it makes the Target line appealing on its own merits, rather than simply an affordable alternative.

As reported earlier, we’ll see the Mulberry for Target handbags in stores and online from October 10. They will be sold until December 24, or until stocks last. With Christmas just around the corner, I’m predicting they might not last that long!

Miu Miu’s quirky approach to the trends always looks best to me when the label keeps it a little under-the-top. Of course I love its edgier fare, but for everyday its minimal aesthetic is a little more do-able. This cross-body bag is a great example of Miu Miu at its finest.

The rounded off shape of the envelope bag is just off-kilter enough to be interesting without being too much of an attention-getter. The smooth leather and slightly oversized design enhance the shape. The soft flap closes with a fabulous gold turnlock, and the whole effect is soft and pared down.

The super skinny strap would irritate me on a larger bag, but here it’s just enough to give the bag a ladylike delicacy and ensure that it doesn’t add weird bulk or pinching when worn across the body.

Overall, this is a great urban everyday bag, and since the shoulder strap is removable, it could also be used as a clutch. This kind of versatility comes with a $995 price tag, which seems slightly unreasonable only for it’s lack of organizational capabilities. To carry this bag regularly will pare down not just your style, but also the amount of stuff you carry around. Come to think of it, I bet a lot of women might be willing to pay extra just for that limitation.

The time has come to get ruffly thanks to this cute and pretty clutch from Menbur.

I do love layers of oh so feminine ruffles, they make me happy. I think they remind me of weddings, and cocktail parties, and supping wine spritzers whilst being refreshed by a warm summer breeze. This type of beautiful girly purse is just perfect for summer, and the layering and over-the-top nature just convinces me of this fact even further. As if I needed any more persuading, they have thrown in a cool gray shade that is just beautiful.

Whilst the shape is relatively traditional, Menbur has made a more modern statement with the oversized kiss-lock clasp. Many people don’t particularly like the meeting of soft and hard, but I actually think the minimalist metal design marries beautifully with the layers of fabric. It is a simple design, but it is effective, and I think it works very well indeed.

As you can tell, I am a fan of this purse, especially when the price is only $84. The optional chain handle is a nice touch too, although in my infinite pickiness I would prefer it to be coordinating satin!

Legendary actress and animal rights activist Brigitte Bardot is teaming up with leather goods company Lancel to create an all-green, cruelty free handbag.

The purse will be made from 100% natural fibers, rather than the leather that Lancel is known for. But the move isn’t without controversy, with many arguing that Bardot shouldn’t align herself with a label known for its leather goods.

Others however are more accepting of the move. They say that the handbag might just capture the hearts of Lancel’s leather-loving customers. Supporters also argue that Bardot might help to educate the company about the potential of natural, vegan fibers. Whether that will see Lancel opting for leather-free alternatives though remains to be seen.

Personally I feel that any celebrity endorsement for eco-friendly fashion practices can only be a good thing. It’ll generate a lot of buzz, and encourage us all to think about whether we really need leather for luxury. I can’t wait to see the results of this green collaboration.

We’ve all seen McKlein’s chic briefcases and laptop bags, and now with its Parinda collection McKlein gives us purses for carrying outside the office. This Bloom bag is an example of the brand’s stylish, yet affordable, fashion accessories.

Taken on its own merits, the Bloom bag isn’t bad at all. The high quality synthetic helps the pleats fall just so, while the croc embossed accents help the purse stay on trend. Yet there’s something here that feels very familiar. It could be any purse from the Guess catalog, and while it’s not offensive it’s also not that inspiring either.

When compared to other McKlein bags, my enthusiasm continues to wane. While these office bags are made from high quality leather, here we only get synthetic. It might be a soft synthetic, but it’s a synthetic nonetheless. It’s hard not to feel disappointed when you expect a label to deliver a certain level of luxury.

Of course, the manmade fabric sees the Bloom priced at just $39.95. That price is a steal considering all its features. There are two large compartments, each with their own secure zip. A magnetic closure underneath the front flap adds even more security. One compartment has a slip pocket for your cell phone, while the other has a large zippered pouch.

This McKlein Parinda handbag probably won’t turn a lot of heads, but if you’re looking for a practical purse at an affordable price it’s a tempting proposition.

We’ve gone gaga for the latest handbags and clutches from Jimmy Choo, so it’s sad news to hear that the company’s accessory design director Alvaro Gonzalez is leaving the nest.

Gonzalez joined Jimmy Choo as a freelance designer eight years ago, and has since risen up the ranks. His role as accessory design director saw him responsible for the look of the label’s handbags, small leather goods, scarves, and eyewear.

He will leave the company at the end of July, although no details of his next appointment have been released. It’s also unclear who will take over his post at Jimmy Choo, if indeed any names have been thrown into the ring.

The only thing that is certain is that the person will have to have considerable talent to excite us the way that Alvaro Gonzalez has over the past few seasons. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors, and hope to see him designing more delicious purses really soon.

Just like the formidable Miss Hepburn, the Katherine clutch from Maxx New York marches to its own beat.

This striking purse has much more attitude than many clutches on the market. While they tend to be feminine affairs, this one is defiant and edgy. Studs always add that rebelliousness, but they’re used in a very different way here. They appear like tiny nuts and bolts dotting the corners of each patch.

Those patches are another interesting design choice. Patchwork has appeared passé in recent years, but the checkerboard mix of soft faux suede and smooth synthetic is subtle and modern. I think it works best in the complementary black and chocolate shades, although if you prefer more contrast consider the Katherine in natural beige and brown.

The Katherine is larger than the average clutch, and its interior better appointed. The long zippered pocket is much more practical than the tiny open pouches we typically see. As we can’t easily fit a wallet inside the clutch, it gives us a handy place for stashing our cards and coins.

A wrist strap is the ideal hands-free feature for such an edgy clutch. A chain strap simply wouldn’t have worked for an individual such as this. It gives us the practicality we crave without compromising those moody good looks.

Chloe’s irreverent take on French fashion is quirky and fun. The See by Chloe line makes it a little more accessible by offering similar fare at a lower price point. This Cherry tote is a hip, but still classic, bag that is going to find a wide audience.

At first glance, the Cherry doesn’t look that unusual. The buttery black leather gives it an understated appeal, even though there’s actually a lot going on. First of all, the boxy drawstring shape is a new take on the bucket bag. It is a fabulous balance of slouchy and structured that looks relaxed, but won’t have you digging endlessly in corners for your lipgloss.

In another context, I might find the gold zipper detail at the front of the bag distracting, but I am so intrigued by the way that the zipper pulls mimic the shape of the leather tassel on the drawstring that I just find it lovely. It’s small details like this that make the Cherry interesting.

For $540, the Cherry is a solid designer bag. Honestly, even with all the tiny bells and whistles, I still want a little more for my money, but less thrifty women might be looking at the bag of their dreams.
