Vitalio Vera takes the hobo style from the swinging sixties to infinity and beyond with this head-turning Ellipse purse.

This is like no hobo I’ve ever seen. I suppose its silhouette is vaguely crescent shaped, although to me it looks much closer to a space ship! It’s also got much more structure than your typical hobo handbag, which only adds to its futuristic charm. The shiny surface is embellished with a mottled black and purple alligator print and sexy reptilian scales.

That structured body doesn’t have a lot of give, but it should still offer enough space for most girls. I also like the way that hard body makes the purse sit up straight, offering easy access to all the items you’ve tucked away inside. The prerequisite pockets for gadgets and a zippered pouch for change will help even space cadets out there stay organized.

I’m not sure what I’d wear this outrageous purse with, but I’m guessing it’d have to be something pretty neutral. At a mere $34.90 though, I think I’d be happy to buy now and figure out the logistics later!

It looks like B. Makowsky has gone on a shooting spree in Africa with the release of the Nairobi totes. But rest assured animal lovers, these furry bags are strictly of the faux variety.

I don’t know about you, but even knowing B. Makowsky has used faux fur doesn’t completely put my mind at ease here. There’s something so tacky about naming a tote the Nairobi, then pretending it’s made from the precious skins of the cheetah, jaguar, and zebra. I don’t mind a little animal print, but this furry material coupled with the African inspired name seems a bit close to home.

It’s a shame though, because when you strip away its tasteless design the Nairobi isn’t really a bad tote. Its dimensions are generous, and its interior zip and slip pockets are up to the organizational challenge. I also love the addition of a D-ring for keys and a handy zippered pouch purse for loose change and valuables.

I just worry that customers say the Nairobi looks better in its photo. I wasn’t so impressed to begin with, so I hate to think how it appears in person!

Savanna brings a healthy dose of ethnic style to your evening ensemble with this striking beaded bag.

While most designers cover their evening bags in beads, Savanna is more sparing in its use of the accents. Instead it sees lines of beads fan out from the ring handle, almost like the rays of the sun. The bold black, red, gold, and clear beads have a real tribal feel to them; ethnic styling is very on trend but it rarely makes its way to after five wear. I only wish the designer had used the beads on both the front and back; I suppose it was done to cut costs but the plain brown back looks very ho-hum.

On a practical level, I love all the space this evening bag affords. It’s much bigger than most clutches so it’s ideal for girls who struggle to carry everything they want on an evening out. I wish there was more than the single slip pocket to help us stay organized though. A zippered pouch would have really come in handy, but Savanna denies us. At least we get a pretty braided shoulder strap, which will probably make carrying easier than that ring handle.

Savanna hasn’t created the perfect evening bag here, but there’s still a lot to love about it. Not least of which is the price, which at $58 is more than reasonable for such a unique party purse.

Luxury label Free Endearment has just released its spring 2010 handbags, and here at BagBunch we’re impressed.

As with all of Los Angeles based designer Jaclyn Morse’s bags, purses from the new line are named after her female family members and closest gal pals. The nubbly crocodile scales of the Jessica tote, the Raquel satchel, and the Dana clutch look so realistic, but they’re actually made of embossed cowhide. If you prefer buttery soft matte leathers look to this modern cross-over Julie bag, Corinne cut-out clutch, or Lisa wallet.

Jacyln Morse uses only high quality fabrics and her simple but contemporary designs make the most of the materials. The looks are clean and sophisticated, not to mention utterly irresistible.

There are no prices printed on the Free Endearment website, but don’t let that scare you. If the ones printed on eBags are anything to go by, they’re significant but not exorbitant for bags for this quality. They average between $100 and $400, which definitely isn’t outrageous by designer standards.

These days it’s easy to forget Courtney Love was once a lipstick smeared, messy haired, train wreck of a rock star. Now she’s all polished and poised, and it seems we have the Hermes Birkin bag to thank for the transformation.
